Eye of the Beholder

A child's beauty contest I watched in such awe;
young girl in a wheelchair to her father, his all.
Escorting her on stage with such grace and pride;
each so blessed to be at the others' side.

A fragile princess in a purple pageant dress;
twirling her first in her chair then lifting her to his chest.
Their dance so inspiring; such an enchanting sight;
so gently he lifted her high up to the sky.

Sparkling, bright eyes and the most beautiful smile;
none deserving of a crown more than this precious child.
An imperfect body, viewed as a gift from above;
her beauty matched only by a father's boundless love.

Beauty in my eyes is not found in perfection;
but in acceptance, uniqueness, love and dedication.

I'm my Daddy Made Over

Dedicated to my Dad Jerry W. Niday 3/20/1952 - 6/18/2013

I am who I am because of him
He’s the reason for my son’s name
He gave me my courage & my strength
To stand tall even when standing wasn’t easy
Stand for the ones who can’t
To think and fend for myself
I’m my Daddy made over

Taught me to fight back
To never back down
How to pick myself back up
When I’ve been knocked down
Fight for what I believe
I’m my Daddy made over

He gave me my stubbornness
Gave me my pride
Gave me my temper
Taught me not to take crap
To speak my mind no matter who
Work for what I want
I’m my Daddy made over

How to keep my emotions in check
How to handle large amounts of pain
When in trouble he always had my back
He knew how my mind worked better than anyone
I got it from him
I’m my Daddy made over

Even though he’s gone
I’ll stand and continue on
I may stumble I may fall
May even get hurt along the way
But I’ll pick myself back up
I’ll dust myself off and stand tall
I’m honored and proud to say
I’m my Daddy made over

We Lost More Than a Dad

We lost more than just a Dad that day
We lost half of how we came to be
We lost we four girls first love
We lost our Best Friend

We lost more than just a Dad that day
Our Mom lost her Soul Mate, Her other half
Our children lost their Papaw
We lost our family’s foundation
We lost the glue that held us together

We lost more than just a Dad that day
We lost the Strongest man we ever knew
We lost the man we looked up too
We lost we four girls Teacher of many things

We lost more than just a Dad that day
We four girls lost our Hero
We lost some of our Light
We lost part of our Heart
We lost part of our Soul

We lost more than just a Dad that day
We lost some of our Courage
We lost some of our Strength
We lost some of our will to fight back
We lost some of our will to carry on
We four girls lost more than a Dad
We lost more than just a Dad that day

My Father's Footsteps

I can see you up ahead of me
I am following
in your footsteps

no matter how fast I walk
I cannot catch up

your footsteps are bigger than mine
but they were warm
and safe to step in

you turn around
and smile encouragingly
then return to your journey

thank you for your footsteps
when I can no longer see you
they will always be here
pointing me in the right direction

MY TEACHER

By John Weaver

At school I learned to read and write, to add and take away,
Of geography and history and sports I learned to play
They taught me all about the world and even outer space
And how to beat another as competition I would face

I learned of lands and cultures that had a different cause
And so we fought and beat them in many different wars
They said that strength and power was the thing I needed most
That I should learn to conquer others, no matter what the cost

They taught me how to be a winner at my work and play
And never mind the loser who may fall along the way
Through all those years of learning the plan was plain to see,
The only thing that mattered was what I could do for ME

Then I met my teacher who taught me something new
That all those things I’d learned had nothing at all to do
With living life with purpose and thought for our fellow man
By showing care and love to others as often as we can

My teacher taught me that life is a level playing field
That we’re all in it together sharing wounds that must be healed
There simply is no difference between you and me
We’re all God’s own children and one big family

My teacher taught the needs of others and the hardships they have to face
May well have been my own, if not for God’s good grace
That handicaps and weaknesses are really there to prove
How fortunate I am to see and talk and hear and move

My teacher showed that happiness is just a case of choice
Instead of choosing sadness we simply choose rejoice
Rejoice that we are able to experience every day
The beauty that the blind can’t see and words the mute can’t say

To walk and talk and feed yourself are gifts you should embrace
It’s the taking part that matters and not who wins the race
And as each and every one of us is taking part in life
What matters most is our gratitude regardless of our strife

To be grateful for the gifts you have and not those you desire
Is the secret to your happiness and to which you should aspire
To show your love to others with help, support and care
To let them know if needed that you are always there

My teacher taught me lessons I never will forget; and I know it sounds absurd
But she taught me all of this and yet…SHE NEVER SPOKE A WORD.

(I call Emily my teacher because although she cannot speak and can do so little, she has taught me so much).

Your My Dear Friend

We have been together
treasured joy now for many years
we trust each other with our
emotions, with affection, tears,

Any day when you are sick or hurting
I feel your pain - significant other,
when eighter-one needs attention
we help one another...

These mutual friendly feelings
for assistance, approval, support
form our tight bonds,
usually never broken

Sharing visions, time together
we respect each other,
regardless of shortcomings
I know you, "I love you anyway"

The Dream

By John Weaver

Whenever I dream of my little girl she runs and shouts and plays
Like all the other children in all their boisterous ways
I see her skip, I see her trip; I hear her laugh and cry
Then when she’s had her fun, home she’ll run and into my arms she’ll fly
With a great big hug and a teasing tug, she’ll cuddle me close and say
‘Daddy I love you heaps and heaps’ in her cheeky little way.

Whenever I dream of my little girl, she’s healthy, fit and well
With eyes alight and a smile so bright it’s really hard to tell
That my dream is a wish and a longing, a hope for something new
For her life to be one that is normal and able-bodied too.

But then I awake and I have to forsake my dream for what is true
That she cannot walk and she cannot talk like the other children do
That she cannot shout and skip about and cuddle me close and say
The things she desperately wants to, yet in her own special way…

Instead she talks to me with her eyes and reassures me with her smile
That all is well and I can tell that she’s happy all the while
Knowing that one day in some magical way, we’ll play together and scheme
And sing and shout and skip about…in an everlasting dream.

Daddy's Little Girl

  Daddy's Little Girl
		                  By Elaine Roy

O Daddy, how I remember how your smile, always shined down on me
How you told me, that I was the best Birthday present, you ever got, the day you adopted me
When I would drive you crazy, asking why questions. You would tell me, you had to think about it and when you found the answer; you always explain it to me.
You always made me happy, just being around you; you always filled my heart with joy!
I always enjoyed listing and learning, through the stories that you share with me!
You never stop believing in me, even when I did!
You show me, hope, when I couldn't see it!
You always, found away, to make me smile!
I remember, how we danced at my wedding, to Daddy's Little Girl!
I’m so proud of being “Daddy’s Little Girl”
Yes, I’m “Daddy’s Little Girl, cause I was born from his heart!
O Daddy, I miss you every day and I can still hear your voice, after all these years!
Now, you live here in my heart forever, reminding me why life is so beautiful and treasured

The Family That God Gave to Me

The Family That God Gave to Me I think about the family, that God gave to me... And think about where they'll spend eternity! I think about the good times, that we've had. And the trials we've faced... Both good and bad! God helped us to overcome adversity together! And proved his faithfulness... Today and forever! He showed us the Godly path, that we should follow... And promised to be with us! Today and tomorrow! He's proven how much he loves us! And how much that he cares for us! Thank you my lord, for all you do! Where would we be? If not for you? You've proven yourself over and over again! Thank you so much, for being our friend! By Jim Pemberton

MY FATHERS HANDS

MY FATHERS HANDS

He the man known as father, worked a common man's labor,
Never did this soul complain, even as his last breath inhaled,
On earth.
Daddy's little girl was I, the apple of eye, one might say,
The sparkles pride that lit up his spirit and made the pain
Of hardship melt away.
Calloused, and blistered, he earned every marks blemish,
Strength's scares were worn in my fathers hands.
Deeply engraved within the living embodiment,
Of truth and honor's pride, I'll carry him within me
For the rest of my life.
This mountain of a man I called dad, placed these
Tiny feet upon the right path, and even when I did
Stray he stepped in and led this wayward women
Back.
In heaven's grace he'll be watching over me,
Always and someday no doubt, we embrace once
More, and those loving hands will lovely hold this
Child now grow, and I'll know again his eternal warmth.
In blessing's grace, may the angels watch over thee,
Until we meet again, on the distant shores of Nirvana.

Dear Lil Sista

Dear Lil sister. .
Hey pretty girl how you doing these days. How's life treating ya, hope it
hasn't been to cray. I noticed you were down, well how bout u talk to me. I
just wanna uplift ya, see you become who you were born to be. I know your
life has been crazy, Lord knows it to. But all those trials and tribulations
they won't break you. I know you hate that man from your past for touching
you the wrong way, you never told no one n it bothers you to dis day. It
created a dark cloud that covered your heart, now you have trust issues
can't tell the enemies apart. Night after night you pray to God for a fresh
start. Low self esteem, but baby your a work of art. Yeah i know you was
sad growing up without a father. As the years go by life seems to get harder.
I know you wanted that affection, the love you deserve as a daughter. Moma
tried her best but some things sh couldn't have taught ya. I know you wish he
told you, how beautiful you are over n over again. How all of your power
cums from deep within. Those weren't the cards you were dealt so you seek
refuge in other men. Trying to fill that void that has always been missing.
Now your in a situation and too scared to leave cause you think to yourself
nobody will ever love me for me. Countiuosly talking to yourself, and crying
secretly. But baby girl that's a lie I say differently. Your a daughter of a king,
so that makes you a princess. Your father hates to see you cry, that's why he
wants to give you his best. You are heirs of royalty don't u ever forget it. You
ARE victorious let me hear you admit it. Please baby girl don't be another
statistic this world wants to see down, so handle your business. Never follow
the crowd honey be independent. Cause when those checks come in, they'll
have a lot of digits. Always remember to remind yourself how beautiful you
are.I don’t care if your tall, short, white, black or covered in scars. Being
beautiful starts from the heart, so love yourself first. And always know that
the best comes after the worst. Hang in there hun, I know life's a twister. But
you can always count on me. Sincerely your big sister.

With This New Day

I have lived,
And felt the cost,
Paid my dues,
But I have lost_ You.

 Still I pray,
As chaos looms,
And as my blue turns into grey,
I hear__
The angels sing- In tune.

 Don't be giving in,
Don't give up my son,
Or fade away,
Lift your chin with the sun__ And rise,
With this new day!.

 I have lived,
And felt the cost of all my wonderin ways,
I've paid my dues,
I - Have lost you.

I can hear the angels sing,
Your in a mistaken land__ Lessons learned in truth,
As the grey seeks out the blue,
She will__ Your daughter my son---
She will return--- To You.

For I have lived,
Felt the cost of all my walkin days,
I've paid my dues,
I- Lost you....

I wont be giving in,
Won't give up my girl,
Or fade away,
I'll lift my chin with the sun---
And RISE--
With this new day...

The Look On My Child's Face

The Look On My Child’s Face…

Just yesterday I noticed a look of
 love on my child’s face.
This happened in a most “ordinary place.”

It was in our home.
 A place by God’s design.
I felt God speaking to my heart
 this particular time.

I didn’t take any time to
 stop and realize,
The look of love and innocence
 in my child’s eyes.

“Am I being the kind of Dad
 God wants me to be?”
“Am I being an example of Christ
 for my child to see?”

Have I been demonstrating my
 God-given ability,
teaching my kids God’s love,
 and responsibility?

May a Christ-like life in my kids
 be clearly seen and understood,
As one day they will
grow into adulthood.

I hope that one day my
 Children will say:
“I want to be like my Dad-
every single day!”

In God's Hands

I am malleable in God’s hands,
No one can shape me like He can,
He never gives me anything that I can’t handle,
He always knows what He is doing,
No one can compare to Him,
He is the father I never had,
I can truly trust, love, and honor Him,
Because He made me,
He loves me,
And I love Him,
I will never be able to put my heart into someone else’s hands with such trust!
Because He is love!
And I am His.
- Inspired by Jeremiah 18:6

                                                  Jeremiah 18:6 NIV
“O house of Israel, can I not do with you as the potter does? declares the Lord.
“Like clay in the hands of potter, so are you in my hand, O house of Israel.

Memories and Past Lives

Last night my sister died
One week before the Winter Solstice.
My father was worried about her jewelry.
He, one of my other sisters and me,
went to the hospital because he wanted
the three rings frozen on her fingers.

The rings like the circle of life
may have powers to bring her back.

They were taken from another dead women
her mother who died more than one year.

My father would not leave the emergency
room until he got those rings.

The woman helping him
was too nervous to enter the morgue.
But like Nephthys she went in the underworld
Cold dark place where my sister's body
lay in state.

My father blamed himself
for not taking the rings off
when she died.

But when he like Osiris
was given two rings by a women.
He was the ringmaster of a three ring circus.
He came to life, he was clowning, telling jokes.
Maybe the rings have the power to bring back life.

At her funeral there she lay in state,
no rings,
no life,
cold and still dead.

My father was wearing ten rings,
crying maybe cause he lost his powers.
Like Cronus his eldest son was a no show.
One drunkard said my father's daughter died in his arms,

Or maybe the rings have lost their power to
bring back the beloved dead.

Missing Children

When children are taken from your life,
It is very devastating in so many ways to us all,
Some people say it is your fault,
To have the problems you have,
You have caused the distruction,
Of your own family in so many ways,
And you need to start making your own,
Correct choices in life to straighten things out,
For maybe then your children will,
Return back to you at your home where they belong,
For you to love and watch them grow,
So take things day by day,
And try to correct the steps you have made,
To where you can complete each task there is,
To bring your precious children back home,
To where they belong for you to love and charish them,
As a mother and father should,
Holding them each day they need you,
So you never get forgotten,
Each and every day of their wonderful lives.

Observer

A serpent underneath blue sky,
in shade of man, in twinkle of an eye,
above brick wall, in the structure, at the floor,
venom of white dove; contaminated food, undrinkable water,
misguided youth, pregnant daughter, unfaithful father and hateful son,
mothers do pray while we walk through Babylon;
on teli and in the press, on top shells,
price none the less, in bedroom and at your door..
dawn of a new day seemed to be dark,
after all.

As A Parent I Want My Kids to Serve God

As A Parent, I Want My Kids to Serve God! As a parent, I’m trying the best that I can…. Though there are things that I don’t understand! I remember my parents teaching me right and wrong. And taught that God’s laws certainly belong! I’ve tried to share these values with my kids too… The choices they’ve made, and the things they do! When situations in life, seem to have changed… I know that my heavenly father remains the same! I think about what in life, to my kids, I have given… And pray they’ll serve God all the days they’re livin’! Even though I’ve failed and stumbled along the way… I hope I’ve taught my kids how important it is to pray! This family that God gave to me, has grown over a period of time. I’m thankful for the opportunity to call them “mine.” I pray they’ll seek God’s guidance! Wherever they go! May the word of God strengthen and nourish their soul! And as my kids get older, and they move out on their own… May they seek God’s love and protection over their home! I pray that my children will give God their very best! May they serve him daily! And let him take care of the rest! I’m trying my best, as a parent, to trust Jesus and believe! His goodness, in our lives, is what we need to achieve! By Jim Pemberton

Too much times past

Inspiration is just so hard to come by
But I though i 'd found something
That would last
But I guess to much
Times past
and I never really
Knew my dad
But t ain't something
Cry over
Cause in just a few years
............. ( it 'll all be over )
I'm tired of your lies
I guess to best we severed all ties
But this ain't bout you
It's bout me
Even though you
Ruined everything
The damages are to big to repair
So I guess its better to
Act like you don't care
But 2 can play those games
It's not like I ever needed you here

Dear Lord

Dear Lord,

Come what may…
When I pray.
Help me to stand fast
And finish the task.

Help me not to be afraid…
Or to go astray.
Give me courage not to run
But to stand firm till the job is done.

I turn to you for strength…
When I feel weak and things seem bleak.
Sometimes I may feel feeble and scared
But to run I do not dare.

Keep the devil on the run…
With perseverance help me to become,
Your servant with a child like faith
By living under your grace.

Help me to face my fears…
Draw me near,
In silent prayer.
For I know how much you care.

You care for each of us…
All you want is our love and trust.
Believe in the only begotten Son.
It is in Him that our victory is won.

Praise the Lord…
Please, Dear Heavenly Father tell me more.
How much you love us through Jesus Christ.
The one and only sacrifice.

Please, Dear Lord…
Tell me more,
Of the one I adore.
When I come to the Heavenly Shore.

You say, there will be no more pain or suffering…
Only the love of Jesus through the blood’s covering.
Embraced in His love from the Heavenly Father above.
What more could I ask for? Dear Lord…

I Think of a Time When I Was Young

I can think of a time, when I was young.
I was growing up and having fun!
I remember how excited I was to have a t.v.
There were my brothers, my parents and me!
I remember at about the age of ten.
My dad thought going to the theater was a “sin.”
There were many things
that as young man…
I later began to see, and understand!
My parents shared God’s love the best they could!
And I read the Bible and was trying to be “good.”
I had my troubles… And problems bear...
But I had a family, and much prayer!
The truth of God’s word helped sustain me!
I knew how much he really loved me!
My parents, may seem like they were “old fashioned.”
They loved their kids! With a Godly compassion!
I’m thankful to be blessed with a Godly love!
My family was a treasure from heaven above!
I think about today, and how things go wrong.
Many families don’t seem to “get along!”
I pray for the blessing of God, to bind them together!
May we all serve him! Today, and forever!
His love must be the cord that binds!
His will must be the focus of our minds!
May the presence of God bind us as one!
Every mother, father, daughter and son!

Woman:

Woman who are you?
I am a priceless treasure
That cannot be brought, bribe or used
I am created in my father’s image
I am God’s most prize possession
When God looks at me
He see’s himself
I am Gem
I am worth millions
I am beautiful
I am unique
I am rare
Out of all God’s creatures
I am special.
Woman, who are you?
I am God’s child
I am loved
I am worthy to be kept
I am worthy to be held
In my father’s house
There is no other treasure like me
I am stunning
I am gorgeous
I am enough
When my father made me
He made me strong
Wise, capable, kind and responsible
In my hands he gave me the power to change the world
I am fruitful
I am truly bless
Who am I?
I am God’s daughter
I am woman
I am adored.

For our Father, Nelson Madiba Mandela

For our Father, Nelson 'Madiba' Mandela

you are our eternal inspiration

our hopes
our dreams
our conscience

you gave everything of yourself
so that we may live and love and laugh and dream and breathe the air of freedom, dignity and liberty

you lead us through the darkest days with your unshakeable principles and your belief in us

you brought peace and freedom to us

and when at times we felt all was lost

you stayed with us as a father would

you lent us your wisdom
and you chastised us too

and we are here today because of you
you stayed with us, Nelson Rolihlala 'Madiba' Mandela, through all the crests and valleys of our turbulent times

you stayed with us, father
today, we hope and pray and wish
that you, our father Madiba
stay with us still
stay with us, Madiba
stay with us...
