Dead tree

Dead tree.

She stands there like she has for years
The life in her all gone
Once she wore a coat of green
And she'd be filled with song
As feathered friends of every kind
Would rest among her leaves
And as in life the same in death
Our tree will never grieve.

So all alone, she looks, this tree
All etched against black clouds
Although the life in her be gone
She stands there looking proud
And all her majesty is seen
By those with eyes to see
I take her picture once again
Try to catch her mystery

My Cloud By Broken Wings

on my-
diaphanous gossamer filmy cloud-
sumptuous I float woebegone

flowers far and below

and bluebirds come
fluttering in the azure sky
twittering and it's

gossamer filmy cloud-sumptuous

the gobbledygooks with their nonsense
far and below
and bluebirds come drifting

from the garden and forest they fly
my diaphanous

the dullards with their yada yada
come with their hokum nattering

and I
yell hey you
get off my cloud-
sumptuous you you

twittering and twittering
assemblage of fluttering

whispering hissing
with meaningless words
you keep off my diaphanous
gossamer filmy cloud

oh gentle breeze

take this dreamer and flower picker
of buttercups violets
I see them swaying far and below
                           in the meadows lovely
and I recall the little girl me
who picked them
                       for mothers kitchen ledge

oh let me drift and see far and below
on my
diaphanous gossamer cloud-

Looking at life

Looking at life

It’s beautiful
So many different hues
Of green, It kinds of knocks me out
There is not just a few
As I look among the many trees
How it amazes me
There’s light, and medium, soft and dark
So many hues I see.

It’s wonderful
It’s such a lovely show
There’s Butcher birds, and Ravens
Oh how it makes me glow
Parrots dressed in green and blue
Doves, and wagtails too
On velvet grass that’s feather soft
Neath sky so very blue.

Some folk they think of suicide
Have they not eyes at all?
Cannot they see loves magic?
How life’s so beautiful
Wake up, wake up, and look at life
All those greens, and blues and yellows
Look at the birds and ask yourself
“Why are they such happy fellows”?

Blackbirds In The Rain

blackbirds in the rain walking among the fallen leaves under the old mango tree with dripping leaves bathing the grass below blackbirds diligently lifting the rain soaked fallen leaves peering underneath for insects and worms flushed out by the drizzling rain pausing to gulp one down then scooting off again searching for more sitting under the shed with raindrops playing their music on the galvanised sheet roof with a beat that resonates within my inner being putting me in a trance connecting me to the rain and the puddles on the ground with the raindrops gently tapping the water's surface creating rings that collide with one another disrupting their individual shapes creating a dynamic new pattern reflecting their unity and bubbling with energy in the drizzling rain O what a deep feeling of peacefulness and serenity with the rain the dripping leaves and the puddles serenading my spirit with the eternal song of Nature and merging it into the Unity Of All Things
It was raining today. There was a constant drizzle for hours. I sat in a shed attached to the house, watching the blackbirds in action in the rain, searching for their food. The constant rhythmic sound of the rain on the galvanised sheet roof of the shed and the gentle drama playing out in the backyard with the blackbirds was a spiritual experience for me connecting me with Nature and the unity of all things as mentioned in the last verse. .

Walking by the river

Walking by the river.

It was that kind of day
With the Spring Sun soft and warm
There was a kind of energy
That moved within my form
I could have walked the whole day long
As I felt me, natures pull
Oh Lord those river trails are beautiful.

I passed a group of roos
Who were grazing by the river
Some Parrots screeched above my head
And set my heart a quiver
And as those creatures gave their calls
A Kookaburra laughed
Oh how I love to walk that river path.

It was that kind of day
That you’d like to last for years
With the country air rich in my lungs
And my mind all calm and clear
I could have walked until I dropped
Along that river trail
Feeling good and living in the now.

Fifteen tiny Swallows

Fifteen tiny swallows

Fifteen tiny swallows
All perched upon a fence
Oh what handsome fellows
But here, let me commence
To speak of all their beauty
These tiny little birds
All black and cream with a reddish throat
Oh how my heart they stirred

A lady walking with her dog
Disturbed these little guys
So from the fence these birds take wing
And head towards the skies
It seems that they are dancing
In the way they fly around
They always seem to fly in circles
And nearly touch the ground.

I walk around these wetlands
And wonder at it all
Everyday it’s something else
And it’s all so beautiful
Ducks and swallows, parrots too
And the beauty of the lake
I love to walk there most of all
At the coming of the daybreak.

Sharma's Song

Our garden perimeters
are hung with notes
A thrush sings its morning songs.

No other of its kind dares cross
these musical borders of trilling notes

Would that we - could defend our boundaries with songs
instead of bombs.

A Child's Peace

Tell me of your peace.
Let it tell your story now
Of trials and tribulations, a tale not of dreams
Weary from a journey of self-discovery
My child, know the comfort in your peace
You feel hope in this familiar place
As it gently sloughs the pain away
Tell me of your peace
In which we all are blessed and free
Search throughout your soul sweet child
Peer not within your cluttered mind
Look out to rest your tired eyes but do not let them see
Solace found strewn upon daily thoughts is fleeting at it's best
Lasting merely moments, in untouched souls a true peace
Oh yes! You'll know when you arrive but only you will know
The world will melt away as a candle left under the blazing sun
Away away, until you feel home again, an unguided familiar scene
An innocence once lost is restored, all sins suddenly forgiven
Soaking this in with relucant ease,
Breathe it deep with a slow release
Take it in, delight in details you discover
Be calm here child, please have no fear, I am here
You are safe in this place of yours, no hurt no tears
We share not the same peace, no no
Unique to each of us, yet stranger to none
Trust in more than what you see, know beauty is within reach
We share this unspoken bond of freedom from ourselves
Please young one, listen closer now
I say, leave it all behind you love, it will only weigh you down
Cleanse yourself of careless words and careful lies
I know you're weary, let go of all you carry
Don't be afraid, here you are burden free
Trust in you, blessed one, it's easier than you believe
Sweet child, tell me now if you see
Peace resting deep within
Waiting for you
For you to let it be

Look from inside yourself and you will see.
All the splendor of God's creativity.
Flowers mountains bird bees
Animals and plants of all species.
Beautiful sights to please the eyes.
All people of every color shape and size.
Look at yourself your are God's prize.
Built by his hands so healthy and strong.
Given the strength to always carry on.
The beauty of life is open like a book.
In every little cranny and nook.
God's love is always there
All you have to do is look.
Everything is within your grasp
All you have to do is ask.
Look to God to complete all tasks.
See the bird fly and see his grace.
The beauty of God is in every Human's face.
Look! His love shines brighter than sunrays.
Look to God and you will be happy all your days.

After the rain

After the rain

Velvet green with mauve and yellow
Touches blue sky overhead
I walk along this wetland trail
With fairy feathers in my tread
Green parrots in their crazy flight
Rise and fall above the trees
Who’s branches dance in splendid rhythm
As they ride upon the breeze

The ground still moist from yesterday
When the rain came falling down
It feels all kind of downy soft
And looks so very damp and brown
As sweet brown doves search for a feed
And a raven high above
Gives out a call of loneliness
In a voice brim filled with love

The lake it glimmers sheeny, shiny
As the sun upon it beams
It sings a song of sanctity
That fills my heart with lovely dreams
And whispers words of mystery
That seep into my peaceful soul
As I walk in morning silence
Letting nature make me whole.

The Old Tree

It is strange
how things that we see
and take for granted
in everyday life
should suddenly instil
in our minds
a new awareness
of their presence

A silent moment
a brief pause
from life's ever quickening pace
a moment of peace -
in times like these
a common thing
like a dried old tree
becomes alive with beauty

It stands like a quiet sentinel
who has witnessed
many an event
through time
Time has passed by
but it remains
silently standing there
O Tree!
What secrets do you store
in your noble branches?
How many events have you recorded
that man knows nothing of?

In your younger days
when you wore your mantle of green
you nested the carefree birds
to their offspring
you gave protection
When the sun scorched the earth
you gave them cool shade
On a cool windy night
you gave them warmth
How pleasant was their song
to your ear
as they sang a song of thanks
to you

You were a playmate to the children
When they romped at your feet
or climbed on your branches
you smiled
Time grew older
and the children became lovers
You saw them kiss in your shade
soft with the light of the moon
The aura of their love
touched your leaves
and you blushed

they have all gone away
but you still remain
silent sentinel
still waiting and watching
How many untold events
have you witnessed
faithful keeper of secrets?

O that my soul could commune with you
and share of your rugged beauty!
Most Noble Tree!
forgive me for my
once-waxen eyes

Soaring High

Soaring High
Looking up I spot a bird; floating in the sky just soaring way up high. Graceful with wings spread never seeming to move slowly he circles around. In the distance another calls out as joining in this dance in the sky! The two ever higher begin their decent slow and mythological. What feels like hours I watch enjoying the sight drifting downward? What beauty the two birds display as they dare soar closer with each pass.
At last I can tell their hawks. A pair I’m sure for they fly together and call out to one another. I watch as one pauses on a tree limb looking about. The other still circling above and calls out once again. An answer comes from the beauty on the limb.
Amazed I watch the other land on the bird bath. What a sight to see as the smaller one now splashes in the bath. Clean and dry off she flies into the trees. The big hawk again into the sky higher and higher I watch him soar. Soon he’s high enough it’s difficult to tell this graceful soaring bird is the hawk from my backyard. A cry from afar and then he too disappears from my sight.
I find myself looking up watching and waiting for soaring high I’ll see my hawks. The graceful dance in the sky I know will lead them to the bird bath along with the branch where he sits and waits. A cry will sound in the distance alerting me of their intended arrival. My hawks will soar high circling with grace till they dare once more visit a while.
                                                                                              Debbie Knapp.

In love with life

In love with it all

I’m in love with all of it
I haven’t got much wealth
I guess I’m getting older now
I’m running down on health
But I’m in love with all of it
Every blade of grass, each tree
I love it with my heart and soul
I adore its mystery.

Everything in life excites me
I don’t know why this be
But I don’t suffer anymore
With depressive misery
Within my world I am a king
Cause I have everything
Every day is dear to me
Each moment makes my heart sing.

That golden Sun there in the sky
Is looking down on me
As he colors all with wondrous glory
Creating so much mystery
As here I sit, so all alone
The whistling soothes my soul
As canary, caged, just sings for me
And the morning feels so whole.

songs from the woods

walking silently with the spirits of the woods
the stunning acquaintance of a snowy Owl
Hearing songs from many around yet not seen or found
careful your crossing a coral snake or copperhead
preparing to wave all rights to see beauty to live
one piercing bite from the red and yellow snake
deadly shy snake sudden death may await your fate

stillness and earth is touched with Cherokee blood
many tribes with sage and fires dances the brave
you see the wild mustangs ride and deer in mind
the squirrels the rabbits and wolves you hear
the woods once a many land to explore
becomes extinct with Mans desire to build more
how much can we take before it is gone forever

The Twilight Moor

Gazing out upon dusky barren moor,
Where gray grass grasps the air
Finding no purchase but sad allure
Straight stalks elapse their endless despair.

Teased by tales of golden reach
Tricked by gales, whose song they preach.

Redtail’s velvet wings breach the sky,
Maroon lips who kiss the grass
Stirring the song, its desperate sigh
Catching the words, her beak of crystal glass

Behind her, midnight shadow draws
Fells her beauty with unseen charcoal paws

Scarlet tears dampen the earth below
Nurture the roots held by dusty truth
Finally, the wind, gray grass’ will bestow
The hawk once, now the fountain of youth.

Litany of silence reigns in dusky glare,
Each blade bowed in mournful prayer.

The song of the early morn

The song of the early morn.

The magpies warble tenderly
The doves they softly Coo
A Kookaburra in the trees
He laughs to the sky so blue
The fountains play a serenade
It’s the song of the early morn
Two ravens give out throaty caws
They know, twill soon be dawn.

The jasmine fills the morning air
With its wondrous pungent scent
The darkness it has gone to sleep
This morning it was meant
To mystify the willing soul
And get the heart to sing
A thousand magic shades of light
This morning, it does bring.

Geraniums of many hues
And perfume so, so sweet
They cover everything that grows
They don’t try to compete
[This be a merely human trait
To outshine everyone]
All the flowers want to do
Is strive to reach the sun.

Freedom Reigns

"'Cause when your back's against the wall
That's when you show no fear at all
And when you're running out of time
That's when you hitch your star to mine
We won't be leaving by the same road that we came by"

~Keane - My Shadow Lyrics ~

------------------------------------------------------------ There is no celestial place for you to guide my thoughts Can you not see that I am free from you? I am a black bird perched high in the treetops You will hear my crowing and you may hate it But my dear, you cannot take away my voice! Yet still, as fire oppresses forests of life, You can abuse my freedom to find your glory You may discard these words for your love of gods, And in so doing you may simply ignore All the cries that I so passionately utter But my infectious species will guide your mind straight back To that once so lonely treetop where you merely glanced And there will be multitudinous, oppressing thoughts That shall enslave you and bind you unwillingly The crows will only grow louder when you turn away— When you pretend to ignore with your remaining, strangling pride For my voice is a production sent from above Dispatched to judge you pitilessly for your swelling lies! And the choirs of ferocious beaks shall open forever Harmony and dissonance as one

Questions for everyone

Questions for everyone

Has anybody ever sat?
In a garden filled with flowers
Have you felt the magic there?
Have you felt the power?
Have you sat there with the body still?
And the mind too, just the same?
Have you ever lost yourself?
As the mind stopped playing games

Have you seen those magic colours?
And really seen them too!
Have you felt the touch of the morning breeze?
Have you seen the way she do?
Touch those branches with her glory
Make them dance in the morning sun
As the sparkles nearly blow your mind
And you’re the holy one?

Have you ever heard the dove’s warm Coo
And that deep, deep ravens croak?
Have you seen the mulberry tree?
As she dons her summers coat?
And radiance and reverence
Are all that one can know
Have you ever sat there in the garden?
And watched the morning flow.

Sweet mystery

Sweet mystery

Sweet mystery, such mystery
As I look to the other shore
The the river flows so peacefully
And it thrills me to the core
To see those trees in vibrant green
As they dance in the morning breeze
I cannot help but love this life
It gives to me such ease.

Oh it is such a wondrous power
That resides within the heart
Of nature, pure and simple nature
It helps me with my art
Of writing words of beauty
To please the mystic soul
I sit here watching nature
And feel it make me whole.

These lovely birds of wonder
They give me such a thrill
I love those graceful Pelicans
And I know I always will
As gracefully they ride the skies
And fly amidst the trees
As do I write these words on down
That some ones soul might please.

The tree at dawn

The tree at dawn

I look at the tree
As the night begins to die
I look at him with passion
I look with zest do I
As he stands within his magic
This heavy mantled tree
And makes me feel like crying
Weeping tenderly.

The Pink and grey’s Galahs arrive
All squawking, loud and gay
Swerving, diving joyfully
The new days underway
It gets my heart to humming
In a gentle kind of style
Till soon the mind is silent
As heart, it wears a smile

I see the magic mystery
Of a little green leafed cave
It brings soft comfort to my heart
And makes my being crave
To delve into sweet mystery
And as the dusk comes in
The mind feels quiet and wonderful
Far away from worldly din.

In the country

In the country

When I’m in the country
I feel so very grand
There’s something kind of magic
That takes me by the hand
I feel just like a mystic
When I’m gazing at the sea
Or sitting on a river bank
All loose and fancy free.

When I hear the bird song
In the early morning hours
Among the Karri forests
It gives me so much power
When I’m in the wetlands
It’s a feeling just as fine
It feels like I’m an emperor
The whole wide world is mine

When the sun is smiling
In the very early morn
And I’m walking through a forest
I feel like I’m reborn
I’m all of this, I’m everything
Every river, bird, and tree
All of everything I am
I am eternity.

Through that door

Through that door

As the Sun crashed through my window
As the birds awoke the dawn
My mind made new by daybreak
It became the day reborn.
And a whisper stirred within me
From my heart arose these words
“Go through that door to the other side
Then you’ll “hear” these blessed birds”.

And those trees did softly rustle
In the early morning breeze.
And I became the morning
and the breeze that moved these trees
And the whisper softly told me
As the dawn it beckoned me
“Go through that door to the other side
Then you’ll dance just like those trees”.

Through that door, through that door
Go through that door beyond.
Just keep on moving to the other side
Let the shadows all be gone.

That door seemed so elusive
When I sought it with my mind
Then the whisper seemed to tell me
Just leave your mind behind
Then I felt the sweetest music
As the trees they shone so bright
And as I wandered through that door
I felt such sweet delight

The sensitive kind

The sensitive man

He loves he, the grass in the meadow
He loves all the flowers that grow
And loves living life with a passion
And watching the whole of the show
He loves he the sun that is shining
And the moon when it lights the dark sky
And he loves that he’s here
With a mind pure and clear
Though one day he knows he must die.

He likes to live life in the middle
And flow like a river at ease
And all of the clouds in the heavens
Their patterns his heart do well please
As he walks him the trails in the morning
Sweet dreams going round in his head
And there be a theme worth a poem
So he goes home and writes it instead.

As all of the flowers do touch him
And the birds they do sing a new song
He sits here beneath his lounge window
And knows this is where he belongs
As he’s lost in the dance of the morning
Nothing else enters his mind
He leaves all the drama around him
For he be the sensitive kind.

On the beauty of the river

On the beauty of the river

Oh, the beauty of that river!
It’s like I’ve never seen
Just looking from my chalet door
Oh, what a lovely scene
On this cool morn the silent river
Reflects the many hues
As the sun shines down on the Tingle threes
Creating wondrous views

No artist could have painted better
That river shines so bright
As sparling gems of wondrous power
Do give my eyes delight
And greens and blues, and misty hues
Shone out in mystic power
A magic glow within my heart
Does turn into a flower.

As little wrens of gentle blue
Do twitter in the grass
Two ducks sit down here by my feet
And as the moments pass
I thrill them with a simple tune
As that river flows on by
To touch my heart with a gentle tug
As soul, with joy does cry

I love it all

I love it all

I love this sense of mystery
That’s everywhere around
I love the sweetness, and the joy
That ever can be found
In this world of nature
As the birds, they sing their songs
It’s in this world of mystery
That I really do belong.

I love to watch those dancing trees
As they’re captured by the breeze
I love to walk on green, green grass
My life has so much ease
When I dance with nature
And let it take my hand
I love the wonder of each day
It feels so very grand.

I love it when the morn is born
And the sky is filled with light
I love to watch that sun come up
It’s such a wondrous sight
And every time the day does end
That silence in the air!!!
I love it all, oh, yes I do
Such joy is everywhere.

Love midst the flowers

The roses bloom so endlessly
In pink and red and yellow
And orange too with purest white
As the morn feels soft and mellow
We sit together drinking tea
As love fills all of me
And oh, it feels so wonderful
Cause, that’s the way love be.

The birds sing out in tenderness
As they pray to the golden sun
And you and I sit sipping tea
No longer two, but one
As the love, the joy of perfect love
Does deep within me sing
Those birds are singing just for us
And so much bliss do bring.

The Sun shines in the deep blue sky
I smell the whiff of Jasmine
As love sings from a gentle heart
Above all worldly din
As you and I together, dear
We sit here sipping tea
Nothing matters in the whole wide world
But the love twixt you and me.
