Blessing

Priceless pearl
my hidden diamond
love's sweet jewel

Heaven sent
Angelic countenance
Beauty so pure

Lovely daughter
your character delights
my devotion forever

Heartbeat on screen
My unbelief ceased
the moment
You
first squeezed my finger

Qualities of Health Engendering Women

They see strengths
Not the limitations
These are people who will make you proud of yourself
They will tell you why you’re special
Trust you to the point you have to answer their expectations
They make you better than you normally are
You can be proud of yourself
They respect you
For what you’ve done
Where you’ve come from
They see what you’ve experienced something real
Respect you for your courage
They live by their rules
They do not expect you to follow theirs
They are at peace to themselves
They are not proving anything to you
They are good listeners
Sincere in their interest in you
You feel important
They are available for honest
Genuine discussion
Makes you want to share yourself

My ghetto (Pondering)

Ponder this thought my brothers and sisters with me…it’s just an observation

from someone who has seen the same things you see, night after night as I

walk the streets.

Who made that sister sell her body just to be able to buy your crack?

Who made that brother shoot another brother in the head, all over a piece of

land that neither of them owns?

Who made that sister have a baby at just 15 when she couldn’t even afford to

feed it or give it a decent home?

Who made that brother throw that trash in our streets, who told him he could

write graffiti anywhere he please?

Who told that brother that just because he wears his pants hanging off his but

makes him look cool?

Ponder my brothers now can you picture this with me...what if we stop trying to

live black and instead just be black and do what we all just need to do to do

right in life?

What if we each took responsibility for ourselves and stop blaming other races

and people for a ghetto we are each creating by the way we each are acting?

So, you tired of this ghetto and you wanna get out? Then take a good hard

look at yourself my brother or sister's and make sure that you are not the one

who is contributing to turning this place into a ghetto instead of a place you can

call your home.

The Nameless - for South Africans of all colours who fought for freedom

The Nameless

Slipping through the sieve of history,

the nameless rest.

Not for the nameless are roads renamed, nor monuments built.

Not for the nameless are songs sung, nor ink spilled.

The nameless rest.

Their silent sacrifice,

quiet ordeal,

muted trauma,

remain interred,

amongst their remains.

The nameless rest.

Not for the nameless are doctorates conferred, nor eulogies recited.

Not for the nameless are honours bestowed, nor homages directed.

The nameless rest.

They rest within us,

they walk with us,

in every step that we tread.

They rest within us,

they walk with us,

for their spirit is not dead.

“Your name is unknown, your deed is immortal”
- inscription at The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier WWII in Moscow

Special thanks to my dearest elder sister Tasneem Nobandla Moolla, whose conversations with me about life as a non-white person growing up in pre and post-Apartheid South Africa prompted me to write this dedication to the countless, nameless South Africans of every colour, whose sacrifices and dedication in the struggle against Apartheid tyranny must never be forgotten.

My sister’s middle name ‘Nobandla’ which is an isiXhosa name and means “she who is of the people” was given by her godfather, Nelson Mandela, my father’s ‘best-man who could not be, as Nelson Mandela was unable to-make it to my parent’s wedding as he was in jail at the time in the old Johannesburg Fort. This was the 31st December 1961.

BLACK IS ROYALTY

When a black woman love
she loves deeply.
She cares truly.
When she touch;
with tenderness.
Whenever she listen;
always filled with compassion.

Whom she respects;
that she adores!
She never judge;
she supports!
Will always have your back;
she is crazy loyal!
She never gives up on 'em;
she takes care of her own.

Whenever she is around
her presence is definitely felt.
It's the simple thing she does
and the way she does them;
her smile,
her gaze,
how she rolls her eyes,
play with her hair...
haha!
Not to mention how she effortlessly transforms
a house to a home.

they say black don't cracK;that's true!
Is bolD and beautifulL; definitely!
Absolutely phenomenaL;i concur!
But am here to declare
Black is royaltY,
so is a Black womaM!

One Billion Rising

Today we rise.

No more hiding in the shadows,

of culture,
creed,
tradition.

No more silent complicity,

defensive arguments,
sickening pretences,
shabby excuses,

for the actions of men,

brutal and coarse and vulgar and obscene and murderous and abusive.

Today, we rise,

as one.

Today the change starts,

with me,
within me.

Today we rise.

SISTA GURL!!!!!

I know you have seen her walkin',
heard her talkin',
strollin out there on the avenues.

All the while,
fellas seem to stop and stare,

admirin'

thinking SISTA GURL, how can I get with you????!!!!!!

You seem like you can stop the world.
With a snap of your fingers,
clap of your hands.
Gon' SISTA GURL,
keep on!!!!
do your thing!!!!!!!!

I have seen her rollin'
sometimes even strollin'
out there,
on the boulevards.
LOOKIN'
Like the star you are!!!

Dressed up,
from head to toe,
letting the whole world know,
fo' sho'
you got it goin' on!!!

I seen you on the TV set,
in the board room, too
in the arenas,
all throughout the world,
all I can say,
SISTA GURL,
keep doin'
THAT THANG, THAT YOU DO !!!!!!

Mary Frances McElroy You will be missed

Remembering the laughable times we shared,
Seeing that guilty look that you always gave,
When we laughed and got caught,
You will be missed,

Being the lovable and caring person that you are,
funny but also serious,
You will be missed,

You were Strong and wise,
Loved to cook and feed everyone,
but most of all for being loving,
Grandma you will be missed,

Embracing us with your warm hugs when we were down,
Guiding us with your footsteps after you followed Jesus' footsteps,
You will be missed,

Seeing the hurt and pain in our eyes caused by plenty,
You gave us encouraging words to get us through,
And for that,
You will dearly be missed,

Knowing you will be beside us,
To let us know what's right & wrong,
You will be missed,

Grandma in the midst of it all,
I will miss you soo much,
I wrote this poem just for you,
hope you can hear me!!
I love you and miss you!!

My Family and Me

It's amazing how quick things can change.
First your running with the kings, and then you're knocked out of range.
It's strange. I used to worry and stress over friends.
Now I've grown to be a man. Maybe know a few of them.
All that time I could of studied. Did better in school.
Got a job and made it big. Maybe now I'd be cool.
Who's the fool? Now who's the bull? I know that's not me on the top.
Life is always making turns weather you like it or not.
The past will always be the past. My glory days may seem gone.
But, now its time to start a new.The stories keep coming on.
I've got a new girl. She means the world to me.
She keeps me warm at night, my best friend, my new dream.
Since my car accident, still got a limp on one side.
Still working with my memory, still need a friend who can drive.
I love to Karaoke. I get noticed in bars.
My mom's always there to catch me. Tom's working with my mom's cars.
My sister's in the Army, my niece is a big part of my life,
Friend Zach keeps assholes off me, and God is my wife.
AJ's always there to help, Brian is my LOST bud,
Mary's out of school, Lil cousin, Hunter's a stud.
Grandpa still is my idol, JT is still the music man .
The Adam's still can party. Chris, living good on the sand.
I may only use one hand, but I plan to be the best.
At all I do in life, cause there's not that much time left.
The blood test that I took says Landon is mine.
I hope this all works out fine in time and help to make my son's life shine.
JC who's down in Georiga, my heart is screaming for you.
I hope that you recover well. It can't be worse then what I went through.
Uncle Jimmy where you at? Where's Matt, Corie, and Pete?
I know you all are doing good. Serviolo's are a hard team to beat.
How's the rest of the family? I love and miss you all!
I hope you all are standing tall and I pray we never fall.
These last words that I say, I say only to you.
We've got the best family in the world and you know I LOVE YOU!

Lydia's DaddY

...eyes puffy
      caked up with cry

Daddy ain't comin' home
       but
         she don't know why...

grown folk sadness
         ripping inside her

       All she's known about lovin's
               in the coffin beside her

Clother Her in Purple (Tribute to Corretta Scott King)

Clothe her in purple

For she must be dressed

Sprinkle her with gold

Indeed she is blessed

Adorn her with strength

And comfort her with love

Prepare her with wisdom

Always shine light from above

Let her sing from the heart

For nations will hear her cries

Tears for equality, justice, and peace

Escape her eyes

Faithful and loyal

She deserves her crown

While he unchained the dream

She helped hope take its place to remain unbound

Her work never ends as she manages her home

‘She must be praised’ her children confessed

Clothe her in purple

She must be dressed

woman's rant on a hot summer day

just because you see me walking down 'ho boulevard does not mean i'm for sale...
i don't have an advertising sign up inviting you to taste and see
a woman can't walk down the street in broad daylight
dressed in a baggy t-shirt and sweats
rockin' an afro puff on a hot summer day
without being propositioned
in violation of my rights as a woman to be free from sexual harassment
and I’m mad about it
my “NO” to your obnoxious offer is real talk
and you should know the difference between what’s for sale
and what’s not on the auction block
so g’long
an' lef’ muh tuh walk in peace
makes a woman want to carry a concealed weapon
and go blasting
could never walk the hallways
play in the yard
or even pray
without somebody bothering me
pulling on my clothes
or grabbing at me
for some sick reason
the next one is going to get a surprise
so g’long
an' lef’ muh tuh walk in peace

~in honor of the women who have walked ahead of me...

FORGIVING OPRAH

    Forgiving Oprah

Today I’m going to forgive Oprah
After twenty-five years
I am settling all of our differences
I had no right to expect her to be
A stimulus for Black progress
And though I would rather have seen
An Oprah University
Or an Oprah Medical center
Instead of an Oprah magazine
Those were her billions
To spend anyway she chose
And it was selfish of me
To expect her to make Black life any better
Or even different
Just because Harriet Tubman did it
With no help from a single celebrity
Or Martin Luther King made us better
With little or no money
And no television show
But Black heroes are like space ships
They just appear once every twenty-five years
Out of the Blue
I apologize for thinking it was you

I forgive you Oprah
And I forgive you
Tyler Perry
And Lebron
I forgive you too

Blacks

It’s like we’re doing them people a favor
Showing them, that we own up to what they say;
Stereo types isn’t the way,
But we as blacks are proving them right..
They believe that we’ll kill eachother before the
Last night,
& all our women
gone fall a victim to the streets,
Weak minded;
Not even having our children anything to eat..
The only good thing we got going for ourself
Is education,
& that aint gone support the whole nation..

Come on nie,
We gotta take stand!
Teach our children how to believe in
Themselves,
Show our mothers that they
Can make it without a man!
Prove to our fathers,
That they’ll regret they
Neglected us!
Tell our brothers the
“Freak” that noise,
& Stop that fuss!
Its like we all against
Eachother,
But it shouldn’t be this way,
We gotta get it together some day;
Them people know what they doing…
Pretending to solve these crimes,
But knowing their using the same line,
Only place they wanna see us is the cemetery,
Hmm..
Or maybe jail?
But if we don’t make there,
Best to believe:
They hoping we on the
High way to hell,
But we gotta prove em’
Wrong,
Its been too long,
Take a stand,
Cause black women don’t need any man,
Children needa believe in themselves,
Fathers should regret the neglect,
& our brothers need to stop the fuss,
I’m trying not to cuss,
But all this frustration just built up
Inside,
Its kinda hard to hide!
Think about it:
Rosa
Parks,
Martin
Luther King,
Malcom X..
& More, fault
For our freedom;
Now we got it,
& we abusing it,
Kinda like our fathers try our mothers,
But that’s a whole other subject,
We gotta get it together
& that’s a bet(:

Happy Birthday Sister

If no one ever tells you how
wonderful you are,
How happy you make them,
How you shine like the stars,
I will.
If no one lets you know how much
you are appreciated,
How they love the things you do,
How you are meant for greatness,
I will.
If the others can not see the beauty
that you hold,
The sweetheart that you are,
The sincerity in your soul,
I will.
If others don't understand the
things you do,
Why you talk the way you talk,
If they do not have a clue,
I will.
If no one else could give you love,
Give you unexpected gifts,
Give you kisses and hugs,
I will.
If everyone else turns their backs,
and you need someone to stay,
Someone to have your back,
To help you along the way,
If you need someone to pull you up,
When you're about to fall,
Someone to tell you you're too
good,
To be on hands and knees trying to
crawl,
If you're looking for the one
person,Who knows you better than
some,
Who loves you no matter what,
Look right here,
I'm the one.
If no one ever
tells you that a day without you is
not faceable,
They would be lost had God not
given them you,
Or let you know that you are not
replaceable,
I will.
I Love you, Happy Birthday sister

BLACK MADONNAS

     BLACK MADONNAS…
(For My Mother, Her Sisters And Mine Too)

The have toiled
In blood and pain:

Birth.

They have labored
In sun and rain;
Their tears
Have watered
Sunken graves:

Earth.

They are the ebony loins
From which we sprung:

Old
And
Young.

They are the guardians of our faith;
Surviving for our sake.

Without them, Precious Lord,
Where would we be?

Jesus! I thank God for the Mothers
Who have Fathered me!

X

Meaning beating rhythmic patterns the letter X,
   an initial in my name
It's a letter most people fear
but once you know it dear
 Approaching it with-in it's text,
it will be a whole new game

Two sister cities
  once stood still
  one city in Africa
it took a pill
 The sister city
 took it's name
  Africa's President took one look
They declared war on a great big crook

Then China once again retook the name
 By paging out it's domain
 It carried out it's plain

By the way Xi men is the name
I am a X

I love me Black woman

I love me black woman
whom God created from the sand
the black woman that I adore
she has my eyes allure
she's my first virgin born and pure
I bade in her wisdom, power, acceptance and I am sure
She's definitely the one
that has given me a special son.
I love me black woman with vision
she's ahead with an incredible mission.
i love me black woman with passion
the quality of her blossom that I cannot ignore
in my mind she has never been bored.
I love me black woman from the very top of her head toward her bottom feet.
I love me black woman all the time
wouldn't dare trade her for a dime.
I would have write the more ,but there wouldn't be space
to describe how much a black woman worth.
She's the mother of all earth
given a gift with an unbelievable birth.
Who wouldn't love a black woman
in such case is ignant.
to abuse a black woman, I dare not
She's my black woman beautiful within and out
she's all that I 'm bout
a black woman a red rose to be
I can't help myself but see
that a black woman is all that
Precious, fragile and magnificently phat
I love me black woman.

2 Brothers and their Sister

THE TWO BROTHERS AND THEIR SISTER
Brother 1 - Tom
My Sister Needs Help
She's never had the chance to be in love
she thought she should reserve virginity,
and dreamed the things all girls are dreaming of
depending on support from me and thee;

she found some good in ev'ryone she met
until the night the streets took her into
another world no one would soon forget
to meet the scum of life, and what they do;

thinking her dead, after they had their fun
they left her there with life about to be,
now we are told, there's nothing to be done
if she gives birth, she'll die, most certainly.

To save a sister, whom I hold so dear
what choice is this that fills our lives with fear?

Brother 2 - Dick
My Sister's Easy
She's got her life just like it always was
but now her cryin's got our family fare
confused at best, because of what she does,
she never thinks nobody else should care!

She wears her skirts up to her--you know what
and ev'rybody knows she's just a flirt
but now she's got herself p-g, and not
about to tell the truth for that would hurt!

She's cryin rape, cause she don't know just who
made her that way, that night was so much fun
and they were all so drunk, they never knew
what they were doing until it was done.

And I bet she will never change her ways
she's easy and I bet that's how she stays.

My sister, my sister I only have one
My best friend second to none
Mother of two, sister of two, child of two
Maybe that's her lucky number shoot
My sister, my sister my beloved sister
If there was an award that could name the unspeakable
An opening statement , remarkable
So cool, and she doesn't know
She's pretty, unique, and Tresyna

Rwanda Wrongs

In 1957, there existed a plan
To rid Rwanda of the Tutsi clan
Power they had, too much for one side
The foundation for, future Genocide

1960, the monarchy was gone
Will both sides sing the same song
Sadly not as the persecutions start
Ripping this African country apart

1973, under a new regime
Juvénal Habyarimana promised restrain
Progress and reconciliation proposed to be
For this country to unite, finally

1994, Habyarimana gunned down
His assassination, country drowns
This killing of him, the carnage starts
Population half, ripped apart

The killings horrific, no one spared
Machete slain, heads caved
Hacking, be-headings as families fall
As CNN tune in, the world appalled

The continuance, of the slaughtered tribes
Men, women and children you can't describe
Women raped, and the unborn slain
This horrific act of human pain

Most of the fallen, in their own villages dead
By another clan, they thought were friends
Indescribable to the world as our televisions show
The massacre of innocents, as we watch blow by blow

Where does it all end, can we try the same songs
How many more of these Rwanda wrongs
It appears to be a human trait
To kill each other for the sake of it

I'm the one you'll never understand,why can't you be real,why can't you be
honest and up front why must I be the woman that you want to screw, why can't I
be the woman that you want to have in your life, forever. when you see me you see
a positive strong woman one who won't take crap from any, who step to me,but
when you see me, you feel threatened by my looks, my seriousness makes you
scared to talk with me ,but yet I'm perfect in your bed.

Sister Girl

Sister girl you don't know me so please don't try me.
All the actions and things you say don't bother me
because I know it's fake anyway. It's something
like your hair. See I wear genuine leather,
and you, you wear pleather. So sweetie
don't get in my face, because I'm
the one who at least have a
place.I can be in my Rolls
Royce,instead of being
here dissing you
having no
remorse. You can't
say nothing because
now your on hush mouth.
Think about it your quite
as a mouse. Don't get in my
face. I'll put you in place. The
next time you want to cross roads
with me,I hope you'll flee or it'll
be best war in history. It'll be WWIII.

Sister cuzin

I looked in her face, hers was nothing like mine.Chocolate I, caramel she, our
differences we don't see.
her hair short, mine extended 2 be long, yet our spirits 2 one another are drawn

cuz her day, pain and gripe is the same 1's that got me looking 2 the creator for
insight.
as young women we were taught how to be homemakers cater to my man and my kids first. In
the years we live in and are sure to see
that kind of reality
would have ur insides dying spiritually and emotionally
This young women i speak of upon first meeting, spoke volumes 2 me.
I admired her mind, take on life, giving spirit
telling the silly men in her life to come correct becuz u know she doesn't want 2 hear it.
Normally the catty of ladies, would lead me into a shut door of maybes about her
character, somehow we broke down those wall so that we could see exactly who and what was
standing awaiting entrance through the front door.
Every time i see sister cuzin i know she knows exactly whats on my mind, she greets me
with a sweet smile and embrace, let me know quick where to locate the food, smoke and
liquors in my leisure i am free 2 sip
sister cuzins, i luv mine do u luv urs.
Carrying the world on her back saving u constantly from mishaps, in tune with ones
shortcomings and sometimes indiscretions.
Seems sister cuzins always wanna take on the world. Always looking 4 luv, but seems we
stay just being some ones girl.
I come to u with sincere vision, sis
I see ur light, but i warn u, some folks, all they will do is dis it
Direspect, disspondent ready 2 disregard u and ur accomplishments at a flick of the wrist.
I know u sis,
 ur hand strong and steady,
never ever giving these clowns ammunition to dim it
ur lightI mean.
anybody who is anybody knows that in your heart and good graces is
the place one longs to be.
