Lonely Dreams

I never knew following dreams could be this lonely,
But up on the hill, looking back, thank God I'm not the old me.
If the tears will fall, let them be;
I believe this is God's plan, follow your dreams.

The Robbery

Rob me of my purity,
But once again it's all my fault;

Portrait of a Man

I see a picture painted of a kneeling man of prayer
The face of strength is beaten down with tears
Resembling the man I heard commands the very wind
And calms the tempest seas without fear

I see a man who walks on water and drives the spirits out
With power and God’s own authority
But then I see him heal the sick and hear words of compassion
As he gently holds a child on his knee

Who is this man of sorrow, crying out with tears of blood?
Willingly he drinks the cup of death
What holds him there upon that tree? Could it be his endless love
For those of us who daily fail the test?

Never have I touched the hands that gave that I might live
His spirit freed that tragic 'Good' Friday
Ever do I long to know the One who can forgive
We who drove the nails and walked away

                                                                 ~Christopher Thor Britt

A Place In The Sun

     A Place In The Sun

In church at night by blue candles sway
Standing over them in prayer
Each one represents a soul from yesterday
Held together there

Spiritual energy surrounds the tabernacle alter
God’s home away from home on Earth
He smiles, blessed by holy water
Gives us gentle peace and solid worth

I stand together with Jesus over candle lights
Then step outside with Him to view the morning sun
The warmth of nature that feels just right
Knowing life has just begun

A church by the Ocean

The long waves of the ocean beat
Below the minster grey,
Caverns and chapels worn of saintly feet,
And knees of them that pray.

Watch the low green hills of Windsor
The low sky silver grey
One ashen light and no other color
On tower and one lonely tree sway.

But there is HE that woke the sleepless love
With more than mortal tears
And there is grave that has been wept above
Sleeping through many years.

As beautiful as a spring that water can
And the river’s murmur that life gently

As beautiful as the beams of the setting

As beautiful as the moon when the day is

free cee A LADY NAMED RECLAMATION this just might redeem me

The lady I met on a street where sweat and hostility abounds
a lady who swore she'd lead me to higher grounds
she wore no masks, but swore to be my reclamation
and wipe away the memory of my condemnation

the lady I met on a ship crossing raging seas
swore she'd teach me how to pray upon my knees
and if we should be confronted by brotherhood declined
she'd cleans my soul, my body and mind

the lady I met promised to release me from where sin prevails
the same lady who wore no silken lies,no masks nor veils
I heard the words she spoke and her defined declaration
because all I really prayed for was my reclamation

the lady I met promised me from the very start
to rid me of a sinful soul and a broken and bitter heart
and after years of her preaching about holy inspiration
the lady truly became my reclamation

You Taught Me How

You Taught Me How

Oh, Lord, my God, I come with adoration
To sing thy praise and ever share thy love
For in Thy hands, my soul saw sweet remission.
I bow to thee before the hosts above.

I once was weak, and needed admonition
You came with love, forgiving all my sin.
Then, I found strength to follow thee…to harken.
Safe in thy truths, my new life did begin.

Now, I am free to hold my head uprightly.
For with my heart, I seek thy teachings dear.
I’m not alone; my path is lit up brightly.
With every step, I feel thy spirit near.

I promise, Lord, to always strive to please thee.
Steadfastly seeking thy eternal light.
I’ll grasp your hand when Satan comes to tease me.
And choose the right with every ounce of might.

Oh, Lord, my God I am so glad you love me.
You saw some faith and gently nudged me in.
Thy power is great enough to make my soul see.
And call me home despite where I have been.

You led with love showing thy endless greatness.
And brought me home to find eternal peace
I thank thee God for humility and meekness
You taught me how to win against sin’s fleece.

….You taught me how to win against sin’s fleece.

Satan's Banquet

The man sat at a fine table,
Satan said, "Let’s sup,"
He set before him recklessness,
The man drank from the cup.

When he had finished,
He gave him goblet number two,
He drank of satiety,
Drowsiness began to ensue.

Satan set down a black goblet,
The man said, "No thank you, sir,"
But he insisted,
"He who drinks the second must drink the third."

The final cup,
To the man he gave,
Robbed him of his life,
And sent him to his grave.

Satan hides a secret chamber,
Blazing hell is behind the door,
The horrible pit is filled with shrieks of pain,
And every kind of horror.

Won't you come and plead,
The blood of Jesus with me,
Refuse the devil's banquet,
And you will be set free.

I’ve looked for love for many years
I’ve wondered where love’s been
I’ve longed for love to find me
I’ve wondered if and when

Love must have took a wrong turn
Love must have lost its way
Love seemed it wasn’t coming
My heart grew fainter by the day

There were times I thought love came
But it wasn’t really true
It was the shadow of the sun
It didn’t compare to You

You’ve opened my eyes to see now
The most radiant of light
A love to shame the fairy tales
A King more valiant than any knight

And all that time I looked for love
I needed only look within
Love was with me every moment
Love is found in Him

When He brings my earthly love
He will be strong and true
And he will know that God is love
And he will love me too

God's Shining

Walled in and there is left no view;
I am alone within this room
Of circumstance. There is no space
Light, entering, might pierce the gloom.

Cold stone encircles me about;
Blindly, franticly, I grope
From side to side and round again,
Consuming utterly all hope.

Has despair ever been this loved
Or desperation half as sweet
As the hour they taught surrender
To my impatient, weary feet?

My agitated soul grows calm;
Within the cell contentment reigns
For God's shining now discovered
Invades the darkness from within.

One King Mightier than I

Eternity's vast weight of time
Is pressing dark against my breast,
And brooding powers wage within
A ceaseless struggle, dearth of rest.

A crown of shame enwreathes my brow
With thorns, a piercing diadem,
The symbol of self-monarch reign;
Fear's rose the circlet's black-starred gem.

Oh, who can free me from myself;
Who can the worth master be
To lift the victor's standard high
Above the conquered ruins of me?

A crown of thorns was His before;
His throne, a cross against the sky,
The humble Christ who I have found
The one King mightier than I.

The Greater Sin

He did not do it literally
But he killed her just the same
It started on the very night after
The day she took his name

She stuck to her religious dogma
And was chaste until the vows were said
He purchased the ring before they were ready
In his anxiety to get her in his bed

Then they found they were incompatible
When it came to the sexual deed
And his Mr. Hyde started growing inside
Due to an unfulfilled physical need

The abuse was mostly mental
With neglect and apathy sprinkled in
She became a domestic prisoner
And that’s when the dying did begin

She could not bring herself to leave him
That religious upbringing once again
Sometimes behavior inspired by a fear of God
Results in the greater sin

They ruled the overdose accidental
Depression and pain pills mixed too much
Washed down with lots of alcohol
To add the finishing touch

He did not do it literally
But he killed her just the same
It started on the very night after
The day she took his name

Poem: The Manger Is Still Empty

Long ago, a Savior was born
and hidden within a humble birth;
covered with the cloak of humanity,
His presence impacted this earth.

Although we remember His birthday,
know that Christ is no longer a child;
He stopped being an infant, who was…
helpless, quiet, tender and mild.

He grew in strength and wisdom;
He demonstrated His holy authority;
He lived as He divinely taught;
He set the example, for you and me.

He gave of Himself completely
and paid the ultimate sacrifice.
He embodied God’s covenant of love;
His actions were timely and precise.

After suffering the shame of crucifixion,
He was briefly buried in a rock-hewn tomb;
three days later, He triumphantly exited
with a glorified body from Resurrection’s womb.

Today He lives and sovereignly rules;
so people of faith, it’s time to agree
that we must continue to live Godly lives,
seeing that… the manger is still empty!

Poem: Called to Worship V

It’s a fresh morning of new mercies;
raise your hands in a moment of praise!
Do you recall that you’re in covenant
and covered with the blessings of today?

Spend some quiet and quality time with God;
speak genuinely and offer earnest prayers.
Lift up your concerns and needs of others;
demonstrate faith… by words you declare!

Celebrate the faithful witness of Christ;
open your spirit; pour out your soul to Him.
Find strength as you rejoice in victory;
sing unto Him now with songs and hymns.

Embrace your anointing for life’s ministries.
God grants our petitions with earthly peace.
Renew your mind with the cleansing of His Word
and implement His promise of divine release.

Faith is about proper relationship with God
and not the memorization of spiritual quips;
build real communities with actions of love;
remember that we’re still… called to worship!
