Hypnotize

Snowflakes dance in my skies,
Thinking of you, I'm hypnotized.
White blankets upon the ground,
Calmness in chaos, you are found.
Madness in every flake fallen,
Your voice in the night is callin'
I smile through the snowy air,
Footstep coming, you are there.
Cheeks puffy and red from the chill,
A smile so bright, the kiss, a thrill.
Fallen like the snow in loves embrace,
Dripping with flakes upon my face.
Every touch, my heart you hypnotize.
I am lost in the snow, and lost in your eyes.

Snow Storm

Back in the woods, lies our cabin retreat Surrounded by steep hills, streams and hot springs I hear the hoot of the owl perched high in the spruce The howl of the wolf, calling out to her mate Nature is signaling, the moon can't be viewed Thick clouds are blowing, we'll soon be subdued Squirrels are seen scurrying, gathering nuts A feeling of hurry, a snow storm this night Peer out the window, a magical sight Nature is shining, draped in pure white The fire is roaring, I'm holding you tight The roads are all closed, we're stuck here tonight A kiss on your cheek, a sip of red wine No finer feeling, than you and me here Put down my wine, gaze deep in your soft eyes You're my spirit, my wisdom, my strength, my skies My beauty, my vision, my meaning, my heart Hold me tighter sweet one, let's never depart

Snow Love

                                  feel the mountains shake

deep snow moans of pleasure rise

A Most Irish Fairy Tale - Merry Christmas to All

It is not just Santa Claus who we meet in cold December—
There is “Carolina,” and she’s the beauty of a winter picture perfect
With luscious long coal black curly hair far down on her back
As a true fairy princess, Carolina is quite beautiful with beaming

Blue eyes and that certain incandescent glow for all to see and
Dressed in a sparkling white robe made of polar bear skins
With a glossy coat sprinkled with pearls and diamonds . . . .

Out of the woods she comes so quiet in the night’s fresh snow
With a glimpse of two deer and a fox on hunt walking carefully
Carolina hopes the deer will walk around with angelic guard
The secret is that beautiful Carolina talks the animals’ languages
The birds they play in all its splendor fine without sorrows
They fly while Carolina keeps watch carefully on the horizon

Falling snow now dazzling Christmas in a ball circle most brilliant
While there is a frozen frosted sprinkling silver in the mist shining sun
Oh so!! Wonderful to behold as the Spirit of Christmas comes alive . . . .

The Reindeer come alive and begin dancing joyfully together and
Create such a melodic sound almost like bells ringing aloud
And the all the Reindeer are here in their resplendent glory:
Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Donner, Blitzen,
And Rudolph, with his red nose so beautiful and oh so bright—
And the sounds the Reindeer make stay in the minds of the little
Children just like sweetly wishing little voices wonderful in dreams
With those singing, tunes a dancing light appears so wondrous
While planes from all over the world begin landing with cargo
And one each day with loads of letters from good little children

And Santa Claus begins calling the elfin troops into action while
The Leprechauns do all the heavy work as they are much tougher
But the old fighting Irish in them showing their softer side all the
While with a drop of the old fiery dew to keep them warm smiling
Like the very wee little Devil in them - mischievous and all . . . .

They do all the heavy work for the elves as they have more of a spring
In their step while almost bouncing on the tip of the their toes like
Little jumping springs so full of boundless wonder and energy and
Then day after day the letters keep arriving and landing at the North Pole
And they begin working like mad and very busily in the North Pole factory

While Santa checks the letters of all boys and girls through a secret window
And when he shakes it he sees through the mist in a glass bubble of the
Christmas treats while hurriedly calling together all of his Reindeer . . . .
The sound of hooves on the snow saddles up the sleigh he is very slim
To start off while all his helpers are loading up and he flicks the reins

And the bells start ringing and - in a flash of magic dust in spirit sings of
The ground waving he bade Mrs. Claus a very fond and loving farewell
And off he goes in a flash of light Ho! Ho! Ho! Ho! echoing in the distance

Each chimney sliding down he eats the food throwing some to the Reindeer
Treats left after the night's over he feels so fat eating so much he heads back
Home to the North Pole while smiling so content at the children’s happiness
And ringing in his ears filled with golden smiles and wishing everyone a very
Merry Christmas he falls asleep after Mrs. Claus makes him a hot chocolate
Really tired but easing his weary bones year after year he loves his job very
Much so and all of the sheer delight that his efforts and those of Mrs. Clau
And his elfin helpers and the joy and fun of the Reindeer bring to all children
On this Earth!!
                     Merry Christmas to All!!

Our Winter Wonderland - A Collaboration

"Our Winter Wonderland."
A Collaboration.

Snow drops falling, they pass the windows large diamonds,

Gently caressing the ground, as your hands caress my body each night.

In the soft breeze they dance, they dance, like fingers across tingling flesh,

The gentle snow falling, It fills up my heart with precious Love-light.

Virgin white feathers float downy soft outside like pillowed dreams,

Passionately kissing every hill and valley like your lips that trail so light.

Hushed whispers secretly calling on the cusp of winter's breath,

Cottony soft snow with climactic embrace share Lover's hearts tonight.

Now let us stand In Love's embrace, winter tears spreading on the ground,

Upon the porch of Love's endeavour, In gentle peace we stand.

Our heart's sing winter's harmony, as Into brown eyes we do drown,

We bathe In each others brown fire, as downy snow falls on the ground.

A Collaboration by Mary Jo Hoose and Michael P Clarke.

Once again your golden pen does grace our collaboration and make our scene come alive as only you can. You make the collaboration enjoyable. Love always....MIKE. XXXX

Our Snow Cabin - A Collaboration

Cozy by the warm glow of the fireplace In our cabin 'neath the pine so tall,
My darlin' Love and i watch downy snowflakes through frosty windowpane fall.
In the velvet darkness of night the silence deafening In the winter wonderland so white,
As Ice crystals softly glisten and sparkle like tiny diamonds blanketing the ground tonight.

Holding close together before the firelight's warm casting glow,
Our silouettes flicker on the wall while outside gently falls virgin snow.
The warmest glow within our hearts we kiss Love's sweetest wine,
Together before our cozy fire on this winter's night divine.

Abbey

Amid the woods and snow he saw her form,
predestined oracle he sensed this was,
her recollected glance, was lone in storm,
outside the chapel she became first cause .

Lit were the chandelier's ocher chandelles,
his heartbeat thrummed an airy rhythmic spell,
the forest snowstorm reeled - shaped ghostly belles
invited him beneath the ringing knell.

Their Angel's bliss, his soul received in flames,
adept and kind the whisper of her voice,
"- Forgiveness calms those who indulge in blames;
devoutness is the prelude of free choice."

Outside he stepped beneath the Abbey's knell:
His voice dispersed above the snow and mass,
in cold embraced the iron wrought of bells,
- as waxen light passed through the chapel's glass.

His mind and woods enjoined in forceful prayer,
spells sacrosanct and numinous instilled,
in abstinence the sanctified abbe,
abandoned Convent life to years and thrills.

Escaped then he, to meet the woods in dark,
amidst their sovereign heights he was her groom,
continuum of time and space to arc,
his childhood's wraith became in mists and tomb.

"Vietnam Veterans"

Anne Murray did have quite the flurry, voice as a brook without crooks
Canadian born, songs of forlorn, beautiful vibes, I subscribed
Such singing as a bird, the world has never heard, she splurged
“O Little Snow Bird”, in the words I heard, calming of Vietnam

O spread your wings and fly away, words of God’s love I heard
Mind level love, forever untrue, so what’s new, `Tis festering spew
O but little snow bird, an alpine of cleansing snow, God’s Love
Spread your wings that brings, renewing, from festered spewing

Providing for me a way to go, by a cleansing snow
Innocence, a purity, of life’s promising security
Some leaders said only fate, this atrocity of hate
Maimed, lamed and defamed they came, to claim their bitter fame

State side they now abide, holding inside, Our leaders lied
Leaving the lamb of their souls in Nam, for uncle Sam
Atrocities, of hate, never abate, mind’s sickening fate
The Vietnam of late, laid at the mind’s creation of hell’s gate

O beauty of little snow birds, spread your wings, fly back this way
Cleans again, the glean of mind’s sin called fate, lain at heart’s gate
Like an alpine of purity, Love from Anne’s heart was sung
Maybe only to ease her own pain, but her timing was plain

The answer is blowing in the wings, of even a little snow bird
The such of which the mind of itself has never learn or heard
All humanity will not learn, but precious few will return
By their trust in Love, the snow white Dove, spewed forth from above

Anne Murray sang away I know, some of my own heart’s pain
Honoring all Vietnam veterans, be you not in fretters
From your hearts of security your love is your surety
Let your Alpine of pure snow bird, be Love’s word you’ve heard

Dane I am sure you’ve at least heard this song that this poem is about.
It somehow caused me to think of you, as I was writing it. Therefore
I dedicate it to you and all veterans for your service to our country.
Sincerely, Love, Moses

Snow

Snow sprinkles the ground

as delicate as sugar

crystallizing the exterior with a romantic heritage

only found in the heart of a child's imagination.

Like happiness it can melt in your hands,

and like happiness it can grow bitter like the ice you slip on

Forming miraculously to the curves of the earth

hugging till the land soaks in it's providence

white like the pages I battle with

Falling so passionately you'd think it was falling in love with the ground

And when it lands,

A blanket of perfection

glistening the season to a crisp

gently the sun arises

"there's no where to go today,

I'm just going to sit and enjoy the magic."

Snow flakes

Snow flakes

Close your eyes

You see millions of snow flakes begin
to fall down to our heart

See?

As it goes ,
Your sadness , anger , hatred and
desperate feeling are like being covered
with the flakes.

Little by little

Anymore ,
You can never see anything
except for the silver snow

Well ,why don't we stop hating each other
and just stay together?

Please forgive me
We could make it for tonight
Only for tonight

 Please see this snow fall
Everything is like just being cured
little by little

You see much of silver snow enough
to make another world

We could build a castle

If failed,
We can do it from the beginning
Since we are not alone

Little by little

You give me power ,
Your smile fulfills my heart with
Joy , happiness and good feelings.

And ,How happy to know that
We can do this together

Please stay with me
We can go further more
changing anything

If failed,
We can do it from the beginning
Since we are together

And Hand in hand
Let's walk in the snow field
Only for tonight

Under the snow fall

The Song of the Christmas Snow

There is nothing with so much life as a Christmas snow
The crisp air is still as little dancing stars float to the earth
Strong old trees become burdened with drifts of white upon their bows
But seem honored to be dressed in such finery and appear almost to move
In fact, everything has come to life to watch the snowfall.
Then everything is quiet
There is a whisper in the air
It ripples through the trees
See the birds, they are the first to recognize the whisper
As the Masters of Chorus, the birds know it is a song
They sit as true musicians memorizing the lyrics and rhythm
So, the snow speaks, the voice is old, like it has sung this song many times
As the squirrels could tell you this is a lullaby, and they begin to search from their
perches in the trees for the newborn
And life and love has never felt as strong as now
A horse in its pastures stomps his foot disturbed
Though he hears the song the birds do and the lullaby the squirrels hear, he,
along with all of the worlds creatures, could swear he just heard a cry
The squirrels chatter with laughter, knowing they where right and the birds take
up the snow-song to welcome the child they heard cry
And then they stop and the world is silent
The snow has stopped falling
The cry was only a memory from Christmas long past
The child, a child of time whose
Voice comes with the Christmas snows,
To give every soul the chance to hear
The song of joy and love and beginning,
So it is never forgotten;
The song of the Christmas Snow

FOR THE SONS OF MEN

Segun my child! My son!
Soon, the cock will crow at dawn
And the east will showcase the sun
Soon, you will leave my home,
To found your own
With words of wisdom, you won’t be alone.
Like a mini-skirt, advice is too short
But it covers the body’s vital lot.

Hear me.
Your brother is not your friend,
He is another you, but independent
So your love for one another, allow no dent
For the sons of men…
Every journey far destination brings
Nature presents a transport means
The snow has the snow dogs
The desert has the camels
The long distant road has the horse

Even technology came to aid us
For the road, we have the cars
For the seas and ocean, the ship
For the rail, the train
The sky has the airplane
All, to lead us through our destiny lane

That is it with man’s life and the battle in it
For whatever fate comes to us, so be it
As the future hungers like a wild beast
Likewise on it, your eyes be firmly fixed
Take a deep breath my child, and learn this
Every master was once an apprentice
Be it the prophets or the dentists

Fate is most times very unfair
Be not defeated by the things you saw
For life is more like war
And all is fair in love and war.
But whatever life’s battle you face
Nature will surely with remedy surface.

When you fall or fail
Don’t ceaselessly wail
Inhale…count to ten, and then exhale
Turn stumbling block to stepping stone,
So the builders reject, will be chief cornerstone

Two Demi-gods are on man’s destiny entrance
Their names, Consistency and Perseverance
Segun, to them, you must bow
No matter what, no matter how
On their feet, bring your head down

I know my son, I know,
That adventure is the blood of the youths
But by rushing the moment, the petals are bruised
So, calmly assimilate my child, calm study
For so, Apostle Paul admonished Timothy
Never be the first to hate
But to forgive, be the first and be in haste

My son, all humans can’t love you
If they all do, then they want to kill you
Likewise, all humans can’t hate you
If they all do, then they want the best for you
What people suffer to get, yet you so easily get
That you must never despise
For it is your miracle in disguise

For the sons of men,
Me, myself and I comes first
Don’t follow that context
If you find the opportunity to rule
My son, take the alternative to lead
For where rulers doom, leaders bloom

When fortune knocks on your door,
Be quick to offer him a sit
Use your wisdom and condor
To keep him and give him no exit

Songbird's Song

My mind freezes as a birdbath
on a chill winter night,
It cracks like glass, soon dissolves
in sun-drenching midday light.
A thought of my winter parting
completely clouds my sight,
Like morning-frosted window's veil
gives an obstructed view,
I can't hear songbirds in winter
or feel me without you.

Freezing wind blows mournfully
through our lives without regard
for time lost, love's tender touch
or beatings of one's heart.
Cold and chill of midwinter
render leaving slow to start.
Anguished hearts as whipping snow
color life hard to see.
Songbirds fly late fall,
winter will be time to die for me.

I can feel a snow before it falls.
I smell it as in a breeze.
I know the North wind blows
after a turning of loose leaves.
Like slow leaving of songbirds,
a tossing of dead weeds,
I sense well signs of winter;
she seeks her strength this year.
When snow is gone, flowers bloom,
please shed for me a tear.

Place my grave atop our hill
on a shaded plot of ground.
Do not cry for me my dear
until springtime rolls around.
Songbirds will sing me hymns
as springs sweetest sound.
A fortunate man I have been
to have loved you for so long,
Remember, I still love you
as you hear a songbird's song.

WINTER WALK

Crackle of frost underfoot
This snow covered wood
Where I met you...........
for the first time

Clouds of breathy air,
your cloak of deep blue,
you made me stop and stare

For, among the holly,
we both were looking for the same thing
This cold pale sky,
with no hint of spring

Your first look,
took my breath away
Your shy smile,
melted me
The sun shone.........
On that day.......

Woods of evergreen,
dusted with snow
This walk..........
with you
Inner glow

This walk...........,
with you,
through snow
My heart,
wanting you so

Your hand,
warmed by mine
Your shy glance
How those blue eyes...
did dance!

This love did flow,
on this walk,
on fresh fallen snow
So white and clear,
surrounded by trees of green

Woods of evergreen,
fresh fallen snow
Where our love can be seen
footprints.......
side by side,
long ago

Where I first met you,
on that winters day,
among the holly and snow
You had far to go,
now together
Our way
seems so short so

Wildflowers

Standing out in a field alone, a little white flower named Daisy longed for someone to share her world.
One day a blue flower named Bachelor Button entered her world they became friends.
She knew by his name that he was not the propagating kind, but that didn’t stop their relationship she called him BB short for best bud.
The seasons of Spring & Summer they enjoyed the sun, laughed in the rain and held on fast in the Fall.
Winter came it was long and hard they were both covered in a blanket of snow, not knowing whether they would ever see each other again or even survive .The snow fell then came the ice, this went on for months.

The Sun shone brightly the first day of spring. A few days later warmth of the sun melted the snow, Daisy popped up .
I’ve been waiting days for you to come out, said BB, they both chanted hooray!
The snow was completely gone in a few days, the birds started building their nests , bugs were crawling around ,butterflies began to visit the two flowers. I wish there were more of us Daisy said, to BB.

They laughed as the sun and wind blew through their leaves. Then it started the sun and rain took turns until one morning the air & field was filled with the smell of flowers.

Daisy and BB looked at each other and asked what kind of flowers are these ? they’re not white like daisies they’re not blue like bachelor buttons. They did not know the birds and bugs carried the seeds from the two of them and the caterpillars buried them under the soil.
The seeds from the new flowers were then carried by the winds many miles away, they landed in fertilized gardens and flourished, although they faced danger everyday.
as they were called WEEDS ..
The Gardener pulls weeds out of the garden so they don’t choke the flowers, which cost a lot of money and require lots of maintenance.

However there was a Gardener who saw her friends spending hours weeding their garden , that they didn’t have enough time to admire and enjoy the labors of their love
So she set out to give a home to all the weeds ,she provided a place where they could fit in and multiply, they required no maintenance, rain provides their water .

The best part of all is their beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Ask my granddaughter-- What are those flowers in the garden ?
She will answer "WILDFLOWERS " their parents were Daisy and BB

Dreams riding white horses

Days buried in the snow to save
Recollections touching the grave
Moved by wind in desert of ice,
Moved far from the sea of thy eyes
In the forgot countries of glass;
With wasteful waves they quickly pass.
Stars gather them in their cold lights,
Dropping from sky, they burn our sights.
Longitude of longing new heights
Looms wave shinning hopes in checked nights

Windows with ice-flowers covered,
Know how their old perfumes were robbed
By young snowmen knocking at door
And asking at what colored floor
Is the blond spring`s good fairy hid?
Wind blows from the other side
Of horizon humming a lied;
Sleepy snowdrops started to read
About dreams riding white horses,
Climb up the mountain of Moses!

Rick Heart's warmth

Through the darkest of nights with cold ice
Yet remembering in my heart with warm love

A time in the Midwest an Irish French family of Seven
The fishing , boating and woods sent by Heaven

One night stands out that warms my Heart a frozen state
It was Winter having a Basketball Game to cheer at ..very late

asking others too many times before for a ride
~ here comes my pride ~

calling many times only receiving a machine
standing by the only payphone , out of change
It's now 3am calling collect , freezing my bones , the Scene

I was giving up thinking.. shelter where to find ?
snow falling hard, last call , my oldest brother answers

Never have I forgotten that frost bitten night
~ through the frozen snow I see his headlights ~

Rick driving his " Mach 1 " Proud , Foghat playing loud
He my Hero like an Angel takes flight , certain he saved my life
~ It was God whom sent him out in the cold freezing night ~

( This is a poem entered in "Hearts Warmth " contest , also a true story of love
& dedication to my oldest Brother ) I always proud .

FREEZING POINT

The river flowing tumble of snow
jackets the buildings and the road
on the last twilight of 1998.

As the sky is slowly draped by darkness and coolness,
there I am on the coldest loneliest walk of my life.

All around, I can see some dancing colored lights.
The houses spells the happy shadows of families.
Some sharing a meal.
Some laughing out loud near their Christmas tree.
Some on the middle of a party.

Christmas carols flying free on mid-air like:

"...But heaven surely knows
That packages and bows
Can never heal a hurting human soul..."

With only a coat, long thick black hair kissed by snow
and some old worn socks to warm me,
I traverse the street--
finding, finding a place I can call home.

About six days ago... I was also with my parents,
so happy, though we only share some bread and cheese
plus porridge that Christmas day.

Me and my parents hugged every night
allowing me to stand the icy nights of December
under the roof of our wooden worn-out home.

My parents though they can't read nor write,
they diligently work day by day for our needs specially mine.
I wasn't given any gift nor we can't everyday eat some meat.
However, my days with them are filled with fun-loving memories.

Not until...

a monstrous fire eat voraciously
our home and three other houses nearby.
My father though old with arthritis
carried me fast as he can to a safe place
and so my mother but ---
father ran back to the house
to save some of our things but unfortunately...
The roof of our home fell.
The fire so ferocious swallowed everything including my father.

My mom and I dealt with this pit of tragedy as one
but later I saw my mother slowly, slowly crumbling down.
She more than me is slowly falling down faster.
Her lamp of hope blown out.
And not long, past six on the same day my mother died.

Hence as the surrounding gets cold
so is the the life of me gradually reaching the freezing point.

Cool Beauty

Hailstones falling from the sky
blown by a cold icy cutting wind
bouncing off the ground
clouds black to grey shawl
winter takes hold

The ground takes shades of white
snow capping the mountains peaks
First snowflake falls
gently melting settling on one finger

Thoughts drifting away inside the soft touch
Petals caressing heart and soul singing
a choir chanting pulling strings
blowing warm breaths clouding steam
frozen whisper of time
feelings flutter into your space

Dancing to loves tune
weaving our silken soft emotions together
ribbons of light piercing a single teardrop
holds beautiful love in high esteem

I will take you my love higher
to where the heart darling
will always and forever
surrender to you without pain
The snow queen smile, cracks ice

You I Dream Of

A flower grows from beneath a blanket
 Of fine and purest white
It reaches toward the sun for warmth,
For heat and for the light

My love for you grows stronger still,
 Despite the surrounding cold
My heart is yours, bartered gone
For yours has it been sold

Its petals shine from morning dew
Its stem grows stiff and strong
It stands strong through the freezing cold
 It stands the winter long

I long for you, for your soft touch
I miss the way you smile
The longer that we stay apart
 The longer every mile

The flower stretches through the snow
 It reaches toward the sun
And now without you the color is gone
 The flower's petals, dun

But as we talk, and as we learn
The flower comes back to life
The snow now melts and goes away
As you take away my strife

Spring is here and growth abounds
As you and I are one
We are together, we are in love
The snow for now is done

I see the future, in dreams I have
Of our life, long and true
I see the times where all I need
 Are comforting words from you

I see the times when winter comes
 As winter tends to do
But we still love, and we still live
And I do still love you

And so we live, with children ours
And a life of much to see
With love we live, to live we love
 Happy together are we

I see the flower, older now,
But still strong with fresh new leaves
I see it growing, tall and strong
 Reaching to the eaves

We are now old, as years have passed
 But old together are we
And strong our love still today
As strong as it can be

Pier Four

The north wind blows on loners' date,
dusk cold of February and dark,
strange ghosts remember us - they hark,
we met on moors, one verse too late.

On wharf stray winds, wild bark - like dogs,
alone I wait - on time's frontier,
from this devoid - alive once Pier,
whereon you smiled to winter fogs.

And it is strange to feel you there,
you never left the winds' long call;
I feel your flow in veins to haul,
a string of tales - nostalgic fare.

And you appear - a wraith in mind,
that distant smiles with blue soft eyes,
gray clouds and snow from low hung skies,
- how doleful meet our dusks and twine!

The night ascribes - pure quilt of snow,
so much quietness falls and dearth,
regales the emptiness of earth
and solitude of our time's tow.

Moon harbinger you'll spring to fore,
if you appear, my life will shine,
a conferred love will wave to mine,
bloom-scented winds will reach Pier Four.

He's the reason for the Season

Snow flake's here, snow flakes there and soon there's snowflake's everywhere.
Some city may have sunshine, other places may even see rain. Whatever is the reason,
don't allow these astronomical happening's make you forget that, "(Jesus) He's the
reason for the season, that Christmas is the day of sharing love and a day that our kid's
should appreciate a day that our world was in need of a change.
Somewhere must I say, some lil boy with no toys will not enjoy this christmas day. But
really, its not always the presents that's stock underneath the tree, on this day as the
snow is still falling from the skie's, let us remember sharing is just as important. For un-
to us in Bethlehem, a King is born and love is the morale of the x-mas story. Love is
the reason just watch your kid's have fun as they run around and play, to the one's less
fortunate to not have what other's have or don't have, together let's us pray for happi-
ness throughout our familie's and our leadership all over this great land in which we
live. The greatest gift is due in all for joy of the reason. "He's the reason for the season,
and his ressurection is a gift of his Glory".

Notre Dame Marion

She thought of the details the Mistral sweeps
the tears she shed that night atop the deck
How beautiful it was to bear her dreams,
but why the heavens caused that evil wreck?

For ten odd months the postage she received,
the scent of ports conveyed and the ship's norm,
but near Alaska's Bering Strait, bereaved
the vessel spent her masts, within the storm.

The Mistral spoke that night, 'the ship was split',
and he was there inside the faint starlight,
he smiled - she guessed that he knew naught of it,
- how was his face angelical and bright!

He kissed her face (or so she thought), and hair,
and then she saw him on the captain's bridge
atop the Spring tides on departing fare,
upon the moors she laughed, conjuring griefs.

On Aleutians snows today and slow,
'Notre Dame Marion' heads on the windward tide;
atop the deck are standing in faint glow,
two ghosts that conn the ship on ether's glide.

SUMMER, WINTER SOLSTICE - 2010

It was a visit long overdue by most people’s standards. I had last seen my daughter two years prior to that during a whirlwind trip which she and her fiancé had made to Cape Town. I had an unexpected financial windfall and the money was burning a hole in my pocket. On the spur of the moment, I called my daughter and asked her to source accommodation for me in London over the Christmas season. A few days later, she called me back with the news that all the hotels had been booked up, save for the Ritz. I chuckled at the idea of having to spend my entire holiday budget on just one night at the Ritz. Then reason asserted itself and we put our heads together to come up with an alternative solution. I could hear her flatmate in the background, chipping in with her penny’s worth of advice. My daughter hung up and I was feeling down in the mouth about the plans for the trip being derailed in such a fashion. Later that evening, my daughter called back with the offer that if I did not object to sleeping on the settee in the lounge, I would be most welcome to stay with them at their London flat. I gladly accepted. She is a chef at a top restaurant and I was looking forward to gourmet meals prepared by her - including the Christmas turkey.

The evening of the booked flight to London, arrived. It was an uncomfortable hot day and I showered and dressed with only minutes to spare before my friend took me to the airport to book in the statuary two hours before international flight departures. At the airport everything was in chaos. We were given the unwelcome news that our flight had been cancelled. This was the third direct flight to London which had been cancelled that week due to London experiencing the worst weather and snow since records began in 1890! We were offered alternative flights and had to stand in queues for hours in order to procure a new airline ticket. Some people became very verbose and insisted on being granted passage on other airline carriers (at the cost of our local airline carrier). I do not know whether it was due to the weather or the disappointment I was feeling, but when my turn came at last to book a new flight, I readily agreed to fly on Christmas Eve ( three days hence) to London. If I had been given time to reflect on this date, I would not have accepted it. Arriving in London on Christmas Day would have been disastrous: The tubes and other public transport would have been curtailed on Christmas Day and shops and other amenities would have been closed for the day. This I knew from previous trips to the UK over the festive season. To add insult to injury, taxis would have charged triple for cab fare and no amount of quibbling would have swayed them. I phoned my friend to collect me and when we got home, I poured a large glass of Merlot and retired on the sun lounger in the garden. It was *full moon that evening and it was almost worth missing the trip to witness its beauty. I left my bags in the hallway and retired early – after phoning my daughter and giving her an update on the status quo.

Six am the following morning, I was woken up by the phone ringing. Sleepily I took the call. It was the airline inquiring whether I could get to the airport by seven am. My friend was dancing up and down in agitation and already had the car out by the time I had brushed my teeth. I offered to pay any speeding fines which she might incur during our mad dash to get to the airport on time. The flight was an additional service which was laid on to get the backlog of passengers to their desired destinations. Heathrow had given our pilots permission to proceed, hence the call to me that morning. We were a total of thirty six passengers on the Boeing 747 – it translated to two passengers per crew member. We were treated to five in flight movies which were current and could eat and drink as much as we wished to. By the time we landed in London at seven pm that evening, there was a festive spirit among us. A radio taxi (which my daughter had organised) was waiting to collect me at Heathrow airport. It was a chilly four degrees Celsius below zero and I was grateful for my leather coat and wool accessories.

**************************************************************** *The December 2010 lunar eclipse occurred from 5:27 to 11:06 UTC on December 21, coinciding with the date of the December solstice. It was visible in its entirety as a total lunar eclipse in North and South America, Iceland, Ireland, Britain and northern Scandinavia. "bitter" means piercingly cold..... A term commonly used by Britishers... "flat" means apartment. The Londoners I know, refer to it as just "flat" with no adj or possessive noun or article. Please see the About section for explanations regarding the 1ST AND LAST haiku. Haibun(literally, haikai writings) is a prosi-metric literary form originating in Japan, combining prose and haiku. The range of haibun is broad and includes the autobiography, diary, essay, prose poem, short story and travel journal. ~ Wikipedia

Ride The Wind

Written February 24, 2012

One too many times
Our love has been unkind
To the rigors and chills of the snow
The streets they meet
Intersecting the heat
But the cold will blow without heed

To rekindle the flame
Must sound quite insane
But it's all I have left in this world
Yet to feed from the hand
Of another's demands
Could lead to the start of the fall

Ride the wind
Wherever it goes
Don't ask it questions
You don't want to know
The wind will carry you home

Snow and The Pine Tree

Snow and The Pine Tree

Snowy white pine tree
beneath the palest blue sky
firmly stands waiting

for the sun to shine
as he softly kiss the snow
before letting go

time to part has come
thawing has arrived for the snow
but her touch lingers

her memory lives
in the heart of the pine tree
winter world of love

sweet and gentle snow
slowly melts under the sun
her fingers slipping

its time for the spring
to dance with the pine tree
till she comes again

DAYS WILL COME DAYS WILL GO

Days will come days will go. The day we are born we start to grow things will come
things will go. Just how many of these things will we really know? The snow will come
the snow will go this will show just how much I love you so. Time will come time will go
when they lay me down below. Time will come time will go soon you will have to let me
go. Days will come days will go you still have a few years left to grow. Things will come
things will go some day you will understand why I was laid down below. The snow will
come the snow will go even thow I am laid down below I will always love you so. Time
will come time will go just let me go I will see you soon. So go live you still have many
years yet to grow and so many things yet to learn and know.

Fallen snow will remind of me/ it is snowing ...
Slowly as in the dream/
Boy word-beads/ with signs on his spine/
He kisses fine/
Your eyelids /

And it snows ... It snows /so slow/
It does/ and you're thinking of me/
'Coz it's warm/ it's better to stay in warmth/
Waiting for summer dim/
It is snowing/ slowly like in the dream/
Flakes/ go round/ playing the music theme/
You've been looking for rescue/
You searched in wine/
But it's in me/
all the rescues are mine/
It is snowing/ the snow is fluffy and white/
If you see darkness/ I'm deaf and blind/
there's the cast of time/ on the arm/
But I discern the light/
Dreams/ upon your eyelids tips/
Prepare you for winter drowse/
And it snows/

Fallen snow/ will remind of spring /
it will crumble and crackle in vain/
It will snow / fluffy /white/ and slow/
And you'll become whole/
