My Family

flowers are women
in my family’s garden -
Mom and her daughters

rhythm surrounds me
as I sway in contentment -
September’s Aster

Geranium Jen
bends graciously in the breeze -
our southern comfort

charming Melanie
with her sunflower brightness
warms us with her smiles

Our sister Doris
the stalwart Gladiolus
will never fail us

With perseverance
Thea boldly holds her own -
sweet Delphinium

Mom at our center
a spiritual iris
simply inspires us

A forget-me-not
for my sisters and mother -
and roses of love

haiku- my family

names engraved in stone
in moss draped tombs deep and dark
                 sad I lay a rose

My family

strong single mother
four children her pride and joy
shelters them from storm

her voice always calm
through swirl of sickening fears
angel is disguise

with words of wisdom
inspired our generation
to achieve success

professional sons
broadcaster, lawyer, banker
result of her love

now a grandmother
twelve grandchildren she adores
her legacy lives

her door still open
should a child come back to nest
mother's arms are home

nature and nurture
create strong family roots
unbreakable bond

my family

No dove coos, the sun sleeps below morn's horizon.... family rises animals still sleep old man gets upon his feet.... scent of bacon floats coffee's aroma wafts upon darkened cold room.... computer alive buttered toast awaits time to lie in the warm sun.... breakfast eaten soon dogs stand by her chair begging for some bites of food.... bacon entices day's chores soon tackled with much enthusiasm.... farmer plants those seeds fatigue calls out rest a nap is caught in his chair.... work some more outdoors whip-poor-wills calls come night has slipped in the front door.... two dogs, old man rest

Haiku on My Family

Second Chance May 2016
Sponsor: Eve Roper

five generations
   connected to my grandpa
      kindred forefather

parents united
    unto them came four children
      love to go around

mother faced cancer
   a dear lady, my angel
      adulthood so strong

adoring siblings
   warmhearted and devoted
     affections of blood

money not vital
   wealthy in rich loyalty
      assets of true faith

our childhood dog Bo
   my sweet Golden Retriever
      my canine best bud

united as one
   roots form a family tree
     belovedly linked

          loyalty to tradition
               our kindred treasure

     Consoling touches
          from loved one's true tenderness
               my beloved's arms

     Traversing one's life
          a warmth of togetherness
               this most heartfelt peace

Blood Line

my family roots
flange to three generations
stand on a tripod

the grace of values
fondued by humble elders
half here and half there

the hopping second
have tales full of humour
vanishing the blues

the out cradled babes
tow blood line of bold and old
exposing its veins

my family tree - nurtured, supportive Banyan roots stay firm beneath Strong branches stretch out, colouring a billion leaves - and those billion lives. United we stand, not by blood… but loyalty. Vasudev Kutumb.
