Texas Wildflower Haiku : Widow's Tears

sun’s heat sunders sand
clustered lanced leaves green hug
widow’s tears collapse

Widow’s Tears is the common name for Commelina erecta var. angustifolia, they bloom on
Texas beaches in sand or clay, and have the characteristic of flowering early in the morning
and fading by noon. The bloom in all seasons but I chose spring to be more commonly
approachable. [1]

Random thoughts **49** Haiku--Tanka--Haiku

5,7,5 -- 5,7,5,7,7 -- 5,7,5

Evil brews, no rules,
looming witches ride their brooms,
demon eyed ghouls drool.

Potions have been brewed,
voodoo dolls alter my mood.
Serial killers,
dead become walking dead,
I feel like I'm in "Thriller"

Vampires, Ware-wolves,
Kruger and Micheal Meyers,
stalking to retire..

DEATH WISH HAIKU A Musical History of Cigarettes

DEATH WISH HAIKU (AS Musical History of Cigarettes)
Snooky Lanson sang it clear
smoke in every ear.

From your Hit Parade,
Frank Sinatra blew the words one time
Didn't Fence Him In.

Dorothy Collin's voice
America there's only one to smoke
Lucky Strike's the one.

Drifting up her nose
pulling smoke into her lung
biting on her tongue

what is she doing?
coffins closing in with nails
death as slow as snails.

Do you want a Lucky?
More satisfaction pleasure
undertakers measure.

Camel smoke was nil
More Doctors smoked Lucky Strikes
Than Mike Hammer smoked.

Nicotine all day
tie hers up in Christmas bows
blow it out her nose.

Free on Navy ships
Sailors never saw the light
Though the match was free.

3 Haiku for Jamey

alone, the boy cries
he is no longer loved
because he is gay

the hall is unsafe
punished in the name of god
he hides how he feels

we hear on the news
of a suicide
who was there for him?

LOSING IT (five haiku)

not those here-and-now colors
but in memory

cloudy sky is filled
full of black twiggy branches
a large crow shoots past

picket fence and trees
standing tall like sentinels
like sad sentinels

comes-on quietly
so benign the sensation
so bloody empty!

this revelation
times at last you think you know
shrug! alas you don’t

fleeting memory
self-flagellation head-shake
another one lost

again and again
scene full of twiggy branches
black crow descending

Summer floods and death.
Despair sorrow, some homeless.
Barriers in future?

~Haiku #22~

two shoes lie mirrored
forgotten when spring cleaning -
the wake remembered

The use of 'lie' in line 1 is meant, a play on words to try and create a double image /
feeling depending on how it is read.

1. Two shoes laying side by side, a mirror reflection of each other
2. The shoes, just by their presence there imply that they are used, which as the reader
discovers later in the Haiku is in fact a lie.

Above lightning sky,
Oak split forest deep inside.
Nature dies violent.
