What's In The Urn

           What’s In The Urn

Strangers offered me to join them in a drink
I met them on a mountain edge while skiing
They seemed like friendly normal people then
So what could happen in a simple cabin?

Finding that which is not there or vanquished
What is there that cannot be perceived?
Placed upon the mantel piece are ashes in the cabin
Brass vase, a receptacle for lost souls sits in repose

A death vase to glare at over cognac
By the sober flames cast by
A fire place glow observed in action
Liquid spirits pour out their poison

In the cozy living room inside the cabin
Drinks alone cannot remove this feeling of distraction
The urn is piercing through my soul
People belong in cemeteries you know

With all due respect for the dead
Scatter them at sea when they‘re deceased
Not paraded around in gloom to cause unease
Or as a center piece for living rooms

I’m not relieved to find it is a lizard on the shelf
To be exact, an exotic iguana family friend entombed
And to assume that fact makes this matter optimal
I beg to differ on that point and voice my opinion later

There must be a plot of ground outside
Or toilet somewhere to flush it down
But better left unsaid, as they are bereaved about the death
And I am their invited guest

Iguana tried consuming the family’s cat
Another favorite pet
It is surmise, that’s how it met its end
Ended up expired inside the urn

The receptacle was there and going nowhere on its own
I swear it follows me from room to room
By embers glow and ash, shadowing my every move
A brass smile casting off the urn, leaving me concerned

I could not take my leave
The container followed me
So I waited, fixated on the thing
Is it coming back to life to eat more bugs or me?

Finding that which is not there
Is easier in the dark
Rising to the occasion of the day that breaks
I must escape the premises to continue skiing

Into the frozen world outside I fly
With no discernible signs or paths to lead or learn
I get away, no time to say good-byes or find my way
Never again will I say; what’s in the urn

How Fast it Dries

the jaguar's tear
slides off his single whisker
clouds do sigh

three offspring
dragged into the river's teeth
one remains

they both stretch
the moment of sorrow lost
life leaps on

SATANIC VERSES

You feel your body falling in blackness.
You snatch your shoulder to the right.
The nausea stops.
The bottomless pit is hell.
Do not enter the midnight.

Up in the window, stands a coyote.
His teeth are bared in detestation.
He howls his satanic verses.
Abomination is his curse.
Do not confront this animal.

Life fades.
Humankind is mentally dead.
They have goaded the animals with the splicing of human brain.
A dog walks with the persona of man.
Do not speak to him.

In the hollow of a tree with leaves as a covering, lies a wolf.
Her teeth are gleaming as she slyly looks.
She stands and yowls her satanic verses.
Atrocity is her hatred.
Do not attack.

Run as fast as you can.
Satan is on a journey to win.
Shout for the Holy Spirit to enter.
Abhor venerating the regards of our creator.
Do this to be save.

Satanic verses you hear in the howls and yowls of the pacts.
They speak in tongue about your nicks and knacks.
Purloins humankind has become by affronting the world the omnipotent formed.
The great divided is no more.
Satanic verses are the faunas’ voices.
Beware the midnight!

Moments In Time

The sweetest sounds of burning trees
A gentle stroking in the breeze
The calm has lasted past the storm
Cloudy visions, Satan’s roar
Too many sights have passed my way
A time found only in the haze
The softest screams are running bare
My aching bones creak as I stare

You walk a distance towards me
The fall’s eternal, can’t you see?
I’m a memory in your heart
I whisper to you in the dark

The battle’s started at the end
No one is coming to repent
The sinners grab their wine from prey
No judgment calling here to stay
The sport is reckless to be told
The one is laughing at his souls
It falters nowhere to be sure
The power grows forevermore
Like a spirit in the wind
I have no say in where you’ve been
But cross the line to come to me
And pay the price for ecstasy

You walk a distance towards me
The fall’s eternal, can’t you see?
I’m a memory in your heart
I whisper to you in the dark.

The Tiger In His Glory

A stealthy tiger stalks his prey
His eyes alight with cunning gleam;
And tho' the world may peaceful seem
The lissome springboks graze and play --
The danger lurks, not far away

He crouches low, his muscles taught
While calculations fill his mind
The perfect arc of force to find;
His quarry, still without a thought
Of what design the tiger sought

The tiger springs, the creatures flee
His mighty limbs with awesome force
Perform their planned and deadly course;
Now lies the springbok piteously
Forever torn from things that be

And o'er his corpse presides the prince
His solid jowls bespecked with blood
His razor claws in crimson flood;
He glories in these trickling glints
That show his skill in ruby tints

And when the prince has et his fill
The birds descend to eat the rest
To feed the young ones in the nest;
But on the tiger roams at will
He's free to wander, hunt, and kill

Pal

Bob had been a lonely man ever since
His wife of fifty years had passed.
“Lord, let me join her.” he would pray.
“Let this day be my last.”

Each day, he went to the cemetery,
Just a short walk down the street.
After their talk, he would water her flowers
And hear passers-by whisper, “How sweet.”

One gray and misty morning,
He had hoped for sunnier skies
To plant fall bloomers at her graveside;
But, there, to his surprise…

Stood an old dog beside her stone;
Thin and dirty, but he struck a handsome pose.
He whined as Bob approached, as if to say,
“I could use a friend, you know.”

He sat calmly as Bob planted flowers,
Carefully sniffing each one Bob put in place.
Then, after the last one was planted,
He sniffed it; then turned and licked Bob’s face.

Bob smiled. “I had a dog when I was young…
Pal…he was a mighty good one too.
So, if you don’t mind old fella,
That’s what I’ll call you.”

Pal may have been an old dog,
But he was smart and handsome in his way;
So they made a deal, Bob would give him a meal
And a bath, if he decided to stay.

Pal loved his bath, then rolled in the grass.
He slept on a blanket in the den.
In the night, he dragged it next to Bob’s bed.
He intended to be Bob’s best friend.

Pal was such a good dog, housebroken too;
Never made a mess or got in trouble.
He knew about newspapers, slippers and Frisbees;
And when Bob called, he ‘d come on the double.

Yes, Pal gave Bob’s life new purpose.
A special bond of friendship was cast.
And never again did Bob pray,
“Lord, let this day be my last.”

For twelve years, the very best of friends,
Together night and day;
And so it was, until one night,
Bob quietly passed away.

The next morning, an old woman,
Tears welling in her sad and lonely eyes,
Brought flowers to her husband’s grave;
But there, to her surprise….

Stood an old dog beside the grave,
Thin an dirty, but he struck a handsome pose.
He whined as she approached, as if to say,
“I could use a friend, you know.”

He sat calmly as she took old flowers
And put fresh ones in their place.
He carefully sniffed the fresh ones,
Then turned and licked her face.

She smiled. “I had a dog when I was young….
a good one too. His name was Pal.”

Dead puppy Poem

es 1/29/11

                             Dead puppies are no fun

Dead puppies rotting in the sun

                           Dead puppies have no soul?

Dead puppies it takes its toll

Dead puppies no fun at all

                              Dead puppies don't chase balls

                            Dead puppies stuck in walls

                               Dead puppies hit by cars

                              Dead puppies out side bars

                          Dead puppies succumb to Parvo

Dead puppies named Pete and Margo

                                 Dead puppies Frozen cold

                                Dead puppies never old

                                  Dead puppies never yap

Dead puppies in a little girls lap

                             dead Puppies euthanize

Dead puppies, Owners out side cry

                                Dead puppies missing eyes

                              Dead puppies covered in flies

                               Dead Puppies covered in feces

                                Dead puppies torn to pieces

                                     Dead puppies with IV's

                              Dead puppies with broken knees

Dead puppies that where once sick

                                 Dead puppies do no tricks

                                  Dead puppies do not run

                                  Dead puppies are no fun

***NOTE*** This is a bit morbid but it is the realities of an Animal hospital. I worked at one and unfortunately this is the dark side of the animal hospitals. We deal with a lot of dead puppies.

Temple of Life

Water, gently filling a bamboo to the brim before snapping,
scared deer running in the right direction, to the hunter,
how many young ones are orphaned in this bloody hunting?

I loved My Life of Bird

I fly in the sky
I swim in the sea
I sleep in the night
And in the trees I live

The forest once was my home
That I always cherished
For me and every one
Who lived on this beautiful heaven?

Coming into the flame of fire
Together with my family
Helps me to remember and tell to all
That has caused the dead of all?

Came five days ago
Three to four men
With something in there mind known as the plan
To destroy what was known as our home

Came few men
After few days
To destroy us all together with the forest
To clear the land

They lighted the fire
They parked some big bulldozers
To clear the trees and removes the stones
After everything is burnt by the flames of the fire

Together with my family
Praying to the god as one
To forgive our sin
And tell the reason for this everything

Nothing I heard from up
But something from down
As few men said
For the development, let happen this destruction

The Humans and I

Ones who wage,
Ones who rage,
Ones who take,
Ones who pay,
Ones who craze,
Ones who rave,
Ones who crave…

Ones who fear,
Ones who breathe,
Ones who give,
Ones who need,
Ones who will,
Ones who weave…

Ones who plead,
Ones who beg,
Ones who beseech,
Ones who entreat,
Ones who appeal,
Ones who volunteer,
Ones who disappear…

The ones who follow,
The ones that don’t know about tomorrow,
The ones who don’t deserve the morrow…

The ones who sleep,
The ones who cry,
The ones who live,
The ones who die…

The ones who proclaim,
Those who say they create,
The ones who ache,
The ones who don’t wait,
The ones who hesitate,
The ones who don’t concentrate,
The ones who fornicate,
The ones who procrastinate…

Those who fall in temptation,
Those who get in frustration,
Those who sometimes feel desperation,
Those who keep going without caution,
Those in motion,
Those in tension,
Those losing notion,
Those being poisoned,
Those getting in distortion,
Those following the broken diction,
Those dying like the billions,
Those without unction,
Those washed in the oceans…

I might seem cold,
But it is you who is bold.
I might not express,
But it is you who doesn’t let me progress.
I might not seem like I seek,
But it is you who doesn’t know me…
I might seem like I need,
But it is you who might always be begging on your knees.
I might seem dull,
But it is the one that is fool.
I might not be alight,
But it is you who isn’t truly alive…

I will remain neutral,
I will remain silver,
I will remain gray,
I feel darkness,
I feel light,
I will remain hallowed…,
After all, it is you who deserves no life…

I am a metal hawk,
I am a mountain goat,
I am a silver bird,
I am a gray wolf,
I am a white tiger,
I am a mystic rose…,
I am I…

I’m alive,
And I survive,
You are here,
However, it is you who deserves no life…

Being human does not imply that you have humanity…

Belle

precious cargo
princess in making
those precise green eyes
the colors of fall
completed with poise
your presence remains
reminiscing on those mornings-
you'd follow me round-
without a sound-
no expectation-
but with the unconditional
limitation.

final breaths within my arms
silent suffocating
death sure appears cruel

Rest in peace Belle. 16 years old <3 I love you.

In the Meadow

In the Meadow, I hear a POP!
Drip Drop , Drip Drop!
I can't seem to hear the Clip, Clop!
So off I run with a little Hip-Hop!

In the Meadow, I hear a POP!
Drip Drop, Drip Drop!
As I near, my Heartbeat gives a Stop!
My Stomach does the tightest Flip-Flop!

In the Meadow, I hear a POP!
Drip Drop, Drip Drop!
I howl on seeing the Butcher's Shop!
Onto the Meadow grass, I Slip-Slop!

To Witness the Unbearable Chop!
Blood of my Horse, Drip Drop!

Elegy for a Duchess

Who would believe your slim elegant body would win my affection,
when you gracelessly step on toes? Your soft doe skin of cream

spotted brown, floppy ears I threaten to turn into gloves as a joke.
Through many chain jangle calls for walks where you race and lunge

and bark fighting for the right to be with me, how could I turn you away?
When you almost die I am ready to give you away to death, hating the sick

green puke, you become skinnier despite the surgery until finally
one simple shot brings you back to us alive, slurping our hands and faces.

Busy days of science and humanities and government tucked up in a chair,
I forgot you, but you begged let me even eat your apple. let me sit in your lap

but you’re so big now you don’t fit and don't like apple. Chocolate chips cookies, though, a whole batch scarfed from the table and then you wiggle and wag tail,

snarl, your teeth clenched when I offer just one more. We all know who is guilty,
not you, your innocence, your steadfast defense, says it is our family who has forgot.

Finally, it is too late. You hurt too bad, spine enflamed, barely able to walk
or eat. Tomorrow your last day. I pick up the chain, you race happy to join me

down the row of maples losing their last autumn leaves, where my brother and I lead you plodding like an old man, stopping to breathe, and I see stars in my eyes,

saying goodbye. Goodbye to the lady of our family, the Dalmatian Duchess
who loved us best, walked beside us through our childhood days like a guardian.

Playing with fire

Playing with fire

What is it with these morons?
What is this fierce desire?
What is it that makes them tick?
Why do they play with fire?
They wander round from place to place
With lighters in their hand
And start these fires haphazardly
I do not understand.

What gets into their foolish heads?
To make them do these things
They call these people arsonists
Such destruction these fools bring
Houses they go up in flames
As the fires go raging by
And animals, and often people
Amidst these flames they die.

Have these folk no compassion?
Do they not care at all?
About the damage they create
Why are these folk so cruel?
It seems to me they be insane
What else could they be?
Lock them up is what I say
And throw away the key.

Unknown

Who am I?
Am I defined by what is near in sight?
Am I defined by what I have done,
Or am I defined by what I could become?

Perhaps I'm of no use.
To him, or her, or I, nor you.
Or perhaps I'm too misunderstood to be defined,
And it is something like understanding that comes in time.

And if to the world I'm never shown,
Yet in my own light I've grown and grown,
And so I can know no happiness but my own--
The reason for my smile, to you, will forever be unknown.

I do not pray for the world to know my name.
For it and verse; the letters are the same.
And if a man should find his sorrow in what he reads,
I pray his pain my words to keep.

Should his eyes rain on my page,
Better tears than storms of rage.
And if a man should find his sorrow in what he reads.
I pray his pain my words to keep.

And if to the world you're never shown,
Yet in your own light you've grown and grown,
And so you know no happiness but your own.
Let the reason for your smile, to you, only be known.

Lords Of The Prairies - An Epitaph : A Tribute To The Bison

Dressed in my shaggy brown coat
I stand nearly six feet
at my shoulders
and weigh almost a ton
My brethren and I
once roamed the prairies
in herds of millions
grazing on its grass
which fed and nourished us
for tens of thousands of years

Running at speeds of
over thirty five miles per hour
across the prairies
in herds that stretched
as far as the eye could see
our hooves created
a thunderous sound
that shook the earth
causing it to tremble
like an earthquake

When packs of wolves attacked us
we surrounded our calves
kept our heads down
flashed our horns
and charged them
to fight them off
At times though
we were not able
to save our young
our old and ill brethren
when they were separated
from the protection
of the herd

The redskins were
the only human beings
we knew at that time
Though they hunted us
with bows and arrows
to feed themselves
and to satisfy their desire
for shelter and other needs
they did not waste
any part of our bodies
They respected us
and we respected them
We lived in harmony
for thousands of years

It was the advent
of the whiteskins
that initiated our decimation
They brought in large
four-legged creatures
that could keep up with
and even outrun us
The redskins realized this
tamed those creatures
sat on their backs
and hunted us
using their bows and arrows
like they did before
They killed more of us
but again they took only
as much as they needed
and did not waste
any part of our bodies
so we continued to
co-exist in harmony

It was that long mysterious stick
that the whiteskins brought in
that triggered our demise
From a great distance
it made a loud noise
and something hit us
that we could not see
but it inflicted severe
pain and agony
Some of us fell to the ground
and died quickly
while others struggled
but were injured so badly
that they died soon after
We were helpless against
this long mysterious stick

We were slaughtered
in our millions
They left our dead bodies
to rot and decay
where we fell
Sometimes they took away our coats
Other times they cut out
our tongues only
and left the rest
of our dead bodies
to putrefy and decay
on the prairie grasslands
that we had trod on proudly
for thousands of years

This is my epitaph
for I just saw the glint
of the sunlight
on the long mysterious stick
heard its thunder
and felt something
go deep into my insides
as I fall to the ground
I am on way to meet
my proud ancestors
who once roamed
these lands in freedom as
Lords Of The Prairies

The Lion's Tale

Hear the Lion roar above the rapids

Hear that Lion roar;

But what if this Lion would roar no more?

And nothing was left for him to roar for.

His home is gone; His land been taken; His children ran; His life forsaken;

And though the Lion may roar above the rapids; That will be the last we’ll see

For if you can not be happy then why bother being free?

Work

Work.
Toil.
The pain I put in the ground.
For such a precious thing.
Corn.
The family enjoys their meal.
They plant their leftover kernels.
And wait for me to tend to them.
Work.
An endless cycle in which happiness is born.

Inevitable Bear

Oh lonely Inevitable Bear,
Padding claws, death in white
Sorrow in recurring nightmare
Instinct’s test; fight or flight?

Camouflage against the fence,
A challenge; my subconscious fear
Ominous slowly moving silence,
“Let me in, there’s a bear out here!”

Little Girls Heidi

This day we free you from pain
Soulful companionship you gave.
Eyes of love looked over my disdain.
Tail of happiness wagged with rave.

Dalmatian your breed, with a loving creed,
Named, Heidi, in youth with innocent face,
Growing beautifully as a spotted breed,
You gave us love, we could never replace.

Mourn thee for a while, and then moved by style.

Never So Gracious

A full moon night to my delight what is so wrong with doing what's right nothing is right after so long no use in complaining time to move on The Dream Water one day might take me away farther from the comfort of familiarity I float on my back then shut my eyes my body now sinking into ocean arms open wide Now swallow your son back to his nature when he is no longer needed to stay here the next generation are dooming themselves they need my experience to guide them through hell Why should I bother on my own, I strive through I turn my back on the thought of bothering to save you alone in this world my, is it spacious I'm finally smiling, never so gracious.

Animal Cruelty

I watched a shocking video today,
It’s an example of animal cruelty,
A variety of them killed without mercy,
Skinned to the bones while it breathing heavily.

A heart with no soul for doing this activity,
They are so scared shouting for their last day,
Pool of blood pouring to the ground of hell,
Small voices of dying animals, furs will sell.

The savaged men tossed them to the side,
A mountain of bloody creatures for sacrifice,
Looking at them begging to stop this inhumane act,
It breaks my heart and tears flowing down in fact.

The best thing we can do is to pray,
Show our love to animals every day,
Be vigilant, be concern, and do your share,
They are God’s creation, please show your care.

Goats

Goats

They’re everywhere
These pretty little creatures
On the serpent road to Exmouth
They be some of the features
Along with Emus, Kangaroos
And handsome birds of prey
These little goats be bountiful
They’re all along the way.

They be domestic goats
Who’ve gone back to the wilds
Where they have bred one million fold.
As one moves along the miles
These little goats be seen so much
In their many shades and hues
Don’t know where they got their water
It be tough country too.

The weather here be hot and dry
As the sun bakes everything
And mostly here no rain does fall
To drinking water bring.
And yet these goats look healthy as
Such nimble little beasts
You’d see some dead there in the road
As the crows do have their feast.

That be the price of progress
That poor beasts have to die
That be the curse of human beings
Sometimes it makes me cry
Yet still they be so plentiful
These handsome little guys
Another little part of nature
That make love in me rise.

Oh My Gosh It's Almost Easter

Oh my gosh it’s almost Easter
Time to get off my fat keister.

To buy a dozen eggs, or more
Coz now there’s five kids over four.

And one of them always cries
Painting eggs with stupid dyes.

I almost forgot the candy bars;
Who needs new brakes for the cars?

I don’t have time to talk to you
Where are the peeps or poops or pooh?

And then I’ll stay up way to late
Hiding eggs for Pete Rabbit’s sake.

I got to get all this stuff done
To make the holiday more fun.

But someday I’ll be all done with
This crazy Easter Bunny myth.

Wait! I’ll save a pile of money
By killing off the Easter Bunny.

And lay him down in a casket
On plastic grass from a basket.

song of the wolf

who will hear our song,
If we are gone?
Will you feel our pain,
As our blood falls like rain?
Who will know our strife,
If you take our life?
Why can't we be free,
We leave you be.
What would you have done,
If it were you under the gun?
You say we are killers,
That we thirst for blood.
But you became a murderer,
When the first shot rung.

Thin Ice

I'm not quite sure where I should begin
We are all on ice that has grown thin
When the Polar Bears have become extinct
Will that be the time we all start to think?

With the ice melting the ocean will rise
The cause of flooding cannot be disguised
Artic animals provided us a warning
Now it's our people that we are mourning

Still we all choose to keep heads in the sand
Not listening to what our Scientists demand
So we are the Authors of our own demise
Not caring for Polar Bears isn't very wise

Australias shame

Australia's shame

Four Million Kangaroos they say
In the year of 0 0 nine
They could be murdered by cruel men
And this old heart of mine
It fills with sorrow over this
These icons of our land
Are shot down for the sake of it
To die upon the sand.

They have to shoot each in the head
Authorities, they say
They tell us this be more humane
And this they think’s okay!
Yet a hundred thousand carcasses
Tell us this is not so
These Kangaroos they die in pain
How can men sink so low?

As one travels the north-west roads
These beasts are everywhere
Mowed down by trucks, in death they lie
It isn’t bloody fair
I love these grand Marsupials
They be so beautiful
How can we treat such graceful beasts
So very, very cruel?

Sunken Eyes

The sallow faces of man
Sunken eyes, cracked voices
Unheard, unseen
Bound to the bidding of gold and paper.

Mangled carcasses
Harbouring far ends of this earth
Blood staining the hard, coarse tarred grounds
Screams of anguish disregarded.

Homes of green marred
As Bengals are stripped for their coat
Helpless beasts left whimpering
The barren land left behind destitute.

Two turns of a thousand
Now trains speed and towers are mountains
Still we slaughter our kind
Drag our feet along the paths of our sins
Unflinching.

The Ibis episode

The Ibis Episode

Today I walked into my garden
To give our dog attention
{Now he’s a dog so big and strong
I guess this I should mention}
And then my eyes, rested upon
This bird, a sacred Ibis
Which made me worry quite a bit
Cause my pond was filled with fish.

This big birds strutted round the place
He could not seem to fly
But I knew that if my Boy caught him
The poor bird well might die
So I was in a quandary
As to what I well might do
So I put the dog into the house
So I could think thing s through

I walked up to the mulberry tree
{He was perched upon a limb}
And I really got quite close to him
And softly spoke to him
He didn’t seem to mind at all
But then, he flew away
It seems he wasn’t hurt at all
Which really made my day.

Does God Sleep

At first light, I stood,
gazing out the window.
I thought not of the dawn,
but of God who watches it rise.

The morning light is like
the waking fingers of God
touching the still sleeping land.

Our world stays primed to betray
the innocent, destroy the small
or the soft and the beautiful.

Oshie and Carlos, docile alpacas
claimed as "Part of the family,"
are no more.

Gentle beauties, savagely slain;
the only clue, one ghastly paw print
in the snow. Did God sleep as tragedy
stretched under tiny diamond stars
in the frozen dark of night?

"They were our buddies,"
sobbed the stricken ranchers.

Grief-gouged wounds heal slowly,
leave shadows reaching into eternity.

Confession

The fox gnaws flaking muscle
From speechless rabbit, cold
In mind and body. Men shiver
As bodies dry, spat from river.

Rings of globes circle hands
Of the thoughtless, so beaten
From paths to be told of Him,
Waiting until eyes grow dim.

Walking among us is plague,
Standing above us is but love,
These winds will claw our youth
While faith entraps this truth.

Winter comes but we survive,
Breath and bones, colonies thrive.

Cold Shadows of Subconscious

Cold shadows form
Blacker bars from locked window
Fall upon the remaining light and I
Wake caged memories as animals
Metaphors arouse the senses
Silence louder grips regret
And all I can do
Is think to run
But, instead I again hold on tighter
To my waning sanity
No signs insist on warning
Moments like rocks are falling
Always continue to pile up images within
That now stirs the soup thick dark
And begin to play out
An unspeakable act
Every year upon this very day
I watch from balconies, stuck
In tragedies portrayed
And now I see…
What I forgot
Mother, lying
Covered about her sins
Beneath, I’m a child crying
Guilt turning always finds its way
Around the coo-coo clock
Of hands and helpless
To time’s army, life’s ending, ticking, plot
If, but for an instance
I could be free
Free from what
A reality without her
And her needed love
When is enough, enough!
Please, subconscious just let me go…
And I promise
I’ll keep on… going and forgetting

Lamentations On Ocean top

                    Lamentations On Ocean Top

Sailing on a calm day
Surfaces of a criminal storm emerged
Seemingly lifeless but with power
Bent on malevolence
Forces of indifference
Towards babies and the needs of puppies on board
The disturbance had no decency
It carries all creatures to their end
With no cause or lamentation
The sea parts ways
Takes all remnants of stock and life
To be sunk and buried beneath the waves
Autochthonous (as indigenous) autocracy (as one rule) native to nothing
Touching the mortal core at every spill of wine and grace
The visual of the kill stabs at the heart of reason
And who knows what mercy lies beneath those savage seas
And who could touch that nerve of nature
That murders babies and their pets
That ruins ships and makes all navies but a speck
While spitting splinters in the face of justice
The yellow bright disc beams down
Like cutting shattered law on glass
Illuminating the debris
And beauty of nature
But no civility or honor shown in that same light
A mirror on the covered deaths
Went well beyond our understanding
Beneath the pulsing fluid turmoil
Only to end in rage and grief
And to that end I thank you
For keeping this to yourselves
And out of the reach of our tender young ones

Dakota Skies Part 1

My brother and I walk the south pasture on an early spring day,
The warmth of spring slowly melting, the cold of winter away.
The golds of old growth are broken by the green of new,
And we are drifting in dreams, though we have work to do.
Gathering the cows for milking, we allow Father Time to pass by,
When a shadow in the barbed wire catches my brother’s eye.
We run through the stubble of last season allowing dreams to lead,
Shaped by childhood stories which we had seen and read.
The cries draw us near where she hangs, limply as if half dead.
Each barb is cutting deeply. She slowly bleeds the earth red.
The life within her still pulsing its unbreakable bond
We make a solemn vow, a promise, to the crying, broken fawn.
Freeing her from her prison, we discover she is too weak,
She cannot stand or fight, has lost the force of her instinct.
My brother lifts her to his chest and orders me to go on.
For the chore of our cow gathering still must be done.

Miles between us and home, they trudge, a child with a child
Him dreaming of what will be when we tame the wild.
The weight of the burden breaks him and he falls to his knees.
Looks to the heavens for strength, but there is only me.
Her hooves drag along beside and I cradle her in my arms -
The weight of her pulling me downward, and yet I struggle on.
We entrust her to the dancing shadows of the oak tree in the yard,
And beg our mother for help but her motto is “Life is hard.
The veterinarian is more than we can spend. Milking still needs done.
Wild animals should be left to nature and the course which it will run.”
With a child’s gesture of love, we leave her and gather grain.
The labor of farm children - as essential as the rain.
(There is a Part 2 which can be found on my page.)

My Dog named Shiva

My dog, named Shiva

I had a dog, named Shiva
So very long ago
Then one day I did grieve her
The tears how they did flow

We used to walk for miles
Us two, Shiva and I
Oh how she fills my heart with smiles
As the days they pass me by

My Shiva she took ill one day
My best friend she did die
My days oh, how they turned so grey
As in death she did lie

A dog is such a wonder
Mans best friend he be
My heart it felt like thunder
I was in such misery

When I was sad and miserable
So loving she would be
Oh, Shiva was so wonderful
I adored her endlessly.

The New God

You're a voyeur at best!
Your vampiric heart beats out of your chest
Ready to consume the final climax
I know who you are - when the lyrics fail to resemble
Letting your poison drip straight from your lips
Portraying, entertaining the image of sex's delusion
You know only rape - manifestation of hate
Lack of the fruit of the beauty of a human mind
Depths you'll never penetrate!

She was only a doll - type of a lost father's adore
Impaled into a desperate whore
Shamefully out of broken safety's  choice
She bore embryogenesis of morose
May your rusty blades caress as they please

So confront the masses with the halt of embryogenesis
Let the worship of machines be
Leg them construct us cell to cell
Nature's just in the way
Of our race of perfectly engineered machines!
The burden of conception
Surrenders to the will of
The New God

Monkey's day

The monkey, that’s me,
The monkey that pretends to be free.
So happy to have his day,
To hear the cheers, the laughs,
And you looking my way.

Laughing at the faces I make,
My clever tricks, the cakes I bake,
Clapping resounds in my ears,
And blows away my silent tears.

It’s the monkey’s day,
No matter how many tricks I play,
A monkey I will stay.

I will always be locked up in my little cage,
I may shake the bars in sorrow or rage,
But I need the peanuts they throw in my face,
I need their laughing to avoid disgrace.

A little monkey, with monkey hopes and monkey dreams,
Monkey desires and monkey schemes,
Monkey wishes his fears away,
Monkey longs for a better day.

Sometimes I take myself so seriously,
As if I’m very important really,
I dress up as if I’m real and proud,
And strut around my head in a cloud.

I pretend that I’m important for you and the world,
I drink up the laughter the applause of the girls,
Just before I realise my dilemma,
My cloths are too small my act is a failure.

Sometimes they pick my cage up and move it around,
Sit it the wall or put it on the ground,
Sometimes they take me out in the sun,
Or swing it around to have some fun.

But most of the time they forget that I’m here,
Here in the dark of a thousand years.
Alone waiting for you to come home,
Searching the horizon for your grave stone.

In fact there’s nothing left at all,
In my monkey brain they nailed to the wall.
Does a monkey have a soul?
Am I for real or really just a hole.

Will I wake up and disappear?
Will I wake up and become thin air?
That will really be the day,
The day the monkey got away.

My last trick, they didn’t see nor even care,
The day the monkey dissolved in thin air.

No more shaking my cage in despair,
No more pretending that I am here,
No more strutting about, making a noise,
No more playing with my plastic toys.

I will disappear and no one will see,
Nor even remember a faint memory of me,
They’ll put the empty cage on the wall,
And my ghost will eat the peanuts they let fall,
As they continue to wonder, laugh and clap,
At the empty cage, dead monkey on your lap.

Death of a Kangaroo

Cobwebs sag, gloomy clouds
like a furrowed brow
loom over the house-
 a kangaroo lies dying on
our country road .
A car's apologeticscreech-
 a deathly thud-
 the twisted scrambling
of a broken creature
And I, watching dumbstuck,
as it sprawls, drawing at
underbrush with frantic forepaws -
reluctant to let go of life
and earth

When others of its kind
came back to find its
carcass, devoid of warmth,
they shed opalescent tears of grief

Tears with the scent of eucalypts
and raindrops

A mute devotion
 reflecting
aspects of me

A Beast

A beast with dark red eyes,
to give out fire burning lies,
a beast with such a hunting nose,
terrible stench where ever it goes.

A beast with teeth like jagged knives,
its mouth of saws taking lives,
a beast with horns like powerful steel,
when there is pain, it will not feel.

A beast with sharp and bloody claws,
its body of scales against all laws,
a beast with a swinging tail of spikes,
to stab through anything it likes.

A beast with wings to slice through air,
to fly and kill without a care,
a beast with death in its mind and heart,
from somewhere far and worlds apart.

Of Demons and Wolves

Far above the ice and Snow
     An Eagle circles waters blue
Wolves are silent as they run
While talons grasp a Salmon's scaly skin.

The twilight Shadow; wolf growling heard.
Prey is scarce, the earth is hard.
The meadow. The brook. In Forest realm.
A glint on Snow forms stories old.

The hunt; circling. The Stag now knows.
     With hunger pangs and snapping maws;
The chase. The turn. The leap to throat. . .
Red eyes in twilight as the wolves do feast!

The moon is high where the wolves have stopped.
An Owl swoops down to then next perch.
     Exchanges, leanings, teaching what?
A wolf starts howling in the cold Moonlight.

An Affair with Death

I knew I was gone when I went into the sleep..
There was no guilt or pain insight..
I’ve never had an affair of the heart.. of mind, body and soul..
The comfort I felt was beyond words from my mind...
And I was destined to fall under his spell...
The fire I felt on my skin began to rage..
I became like an animal in a cage..
Every time I drew back, he pushed me forward..
I could feel his arms embrace me like no other,
His strength overpowered me and breathing became a necessity..
I gasped each time we danced the dance..
I could feel life’s breath leaving my body..
As he held me tighter and tighter..
I have never known such ecstasy as I drew each breath as the last..
Don’t know why I gave in so easy, temptation is not one of my virtues..
I’ve always weighed the pro’s and cons..
Who is this man of many tricks that I would succumb to him ?
I am smarter than this I thought in one lucid moment..
Be gone I said.. leave me alone I do not want to follow you..
All you want is my soul... and I am not ready...
When I am I will call you....

PS. This was a recent experience I had in the ICU...

Nevermore

Once upon a midnight dreary
I walked along the woods so weary
So weary of heroin and nicotine
That right inside took a ride
A joyful ride to my mind
The ones who kept my heart up left
Meaning living, deeply digging
Right inside me with no mercy
They brought a lovely face of misery

My clothes fully torn
As if never truly worn
By a normal human being
But an animal with raging horn
My eyes slightly opened
As if not wanting to see
What kills my every hope and
Makes me want to truly be
A person not belonging to this world
One having not a single sword...
My eyes slightly opened
Not wanting to see
My reality…

Like an animal playing predator
In front of other men,
But prey I am and no other
I cant deny it to mother nature
I miss the sunshine
I miss the feeling of being alive
I want my mind to say I’m fine
And won’t stay this way I’ll strive
But every time I try to think
Only think of a happy moment
Not even living in that moment,
My conscience comes and starts again
By knocking at my door
And there again is the pain
Saying you’ll be happy no more
Never again, never more…

I laugh with a voice so loud
I can see the leaves shaking
Like an addict who just found
No more smack for escaping
I turned into, with such rage
Such hatred towards life
Just prey I am, in a cage
Having no chance to live
I crumble weak and weary
Through this forest of blackness
Total darkness and I so blindly
Fell in the abyss of loneliness
Looking around with eyes as red
As red red red as blood
With fumes growing and growing in my head
Fumes, vagueness, fog, a flood
Sudden flood of blood
So red, scared I am, so red
I fell, couldn’t stand
Can someone please give me a hand
Dad, dad, mom, Virginia please
I want u back, all back
I want to ease
I want to end this hurt, this pain, me
I want to end me yes, me…

I saw him, I saw him coming
Instead of helping he started saying
Screaming, screaming and yelling
Tapping rapping on my chamber door
Saying I’ll live no more
I’ll wait no more
I'll write no more
I'll fight no more
I’ll leave just leave
And never come back
No more
Never again
Nevermore…

Thanks For The Memories, Simba

We lost a very dear friend this past week.
Simba had become so very frail and weak.
He gave us so much joy during his 19 years!
We held him as he passed, shedding copious tears.

He was an extraordinary red tabby cat with no pedigree.
There were no blue ribbon winners in his family tree.
But he was as majestic as any winner in a feline show!
Oh, how we will miss him! How we hated to see him go.

His ashes will be scattered in the mountains above Colorado Springs,
By the compassionate veterinarian who takes care of such things.
When we view magnificent Pikes Peak towering in the pristine skies,
We'll be consoled knowing that 'neath its shining crown, Simba lies!

There's a place called Rainbow Bridge where he'll be restored to health,
Where he'll frolic with other animals, teasing them with his feline stealth!
One glorious day he'll spot us 'mongst the multitude for a grand reunion,
And rain happy kisses on our faces as we tickle his tummy in glad communion!

Old Tom ct

Old Tom cat.

Old Tom cat, he was so fat
Eating was where he was at
If he saw food he’d eat it too
That’s all he’d ever want to do
The birds of him, they had no fear
And mice would come so very near
Tom cat he’d look at them and smile
Cause hunting, it was not his style.

He’s keepers were not acting cruel
They had no malice, not at all
They just liked to feed Tom cat
And when they saw him getting fat
They just over looked this fact
All discipline, this pair, they lacked
On themselves and Pussy too
So more and more fat he’d accrue.

Then all too soon, old Tom he died
His poor old keepers cried and cried
And now they have another cat
And even now, he’s getting fat
The same old story once again
From eating folk cannot refrain
And so poor cats they overfeed
It’s very sad, it is indeed.

The Hawk

The Hawk flys overhead
soaring everlasting in circles
around the poor field mice.

six o'clock.

The Red Sun is now parrallel
to the treeline in the West.
Six o'clock
Dinnertime.
The hawk dives down, like a speeding bullet
and snatches up a small mouse, who was walking
along the corroded barbwire fence,
with his sharpe and dangerous talans.

Six o'clock. Feeding time.
A lover is now gone from the world of field mice,
Just like that.
With the turn of a hand on a clock
Six o'clock.
With the rumble of a Hawk's empty stomach
now a fellow mouse is gone. Forever.

Sad, isn't it?

la la la's just killing me

about who does or not does in literature
we meet so many dogs
barking dogs
biting dogs
all kinds of dogs
some with pedigree and those collars
with shiny medallions
or stray dogs for which
leash is their salvation
and their freedom has the effect of a yelping…
for whom saw Hitchhiker's Guide intergalactic
they know
rezistance is useless!
for others it can be a mouse literature.
white one
sitting quietly in the closet
and nibbling on paper shelves.
what's behind the paper does not matter
it could be a trap
and literature not possibly be a rat
no!?

I do not know what is about with all the literature lately
But sure it's not the girl in the fourth grade
that girl who runs and
her panties always fall
or her teacher's fault?

finally
 [I pray]
rezistance is useless
could be hell on earth

Padock filled with bulls

The paddock’s filled with bulls
All waiting there to die
They don’t have too much future
For the farmer, he’s the guy
Who has the power of life, and death
He decides what lives and dies
As he fattens each beast carefully
That’s where his money lies.

I see these creatures roaming round
And it makes me feel quite sad
To know that for my appetite
These beasts be treated bad
The taste of steak is mighty good
But what a price we pay
I eat my share of it, that’s true
Perhaps I’ll stop one day!

One paddock filled with bulls
It opens my eyes wide
To realize these wondrous beasts
Throughout the years have died
So I might feast with bulging belly
It really is not fair
Living on this little farm
It fills my heart with care.

Unsaid Words

Cognitive simplicities reveled in each line Nothing is impeccably right, nothing is fine I reach the path where a lie is justified by words By the time it is finished they flee like birds Into a path where their tattered wings can heal Where darkness cringes and the hidden scrolls seal I need to find the light where the rhymes deem right I need to see how much I can bear it this night I am cradled by unsaid words every solitary day If only the words I write that linger could take the pain away I want to see you again, but as I unfold within These undaunted subtleties tear away the skin You are left in bear bone while I am still alone A crowd surrounds me as my mind begins to roam Scratching out a line to make room for the lie, The truth stammers and withers as the birds fly by

The dragon's breath upon my cheek Comes to spoil the quiet that I seek Gone the peace that night may grant All my dreams now quickly disenchant Blow your fire upon my aching breast There is a greater pain I can attest You are no more than a jester's tale Yet on the dragon's love I will impale ....

Death of the Easter Bunny

One Sunday morning real early that day There’s a bunny hopping about the road He held with him a basket on his way But he never looked past this big huge load And he saw what seemed to be a great toad As he watched he moved directly on by Went in front of a moving car no lie Hastened his death by quickly hopping on His basket and all were flattened I cry Sadly the Easter bunny has passed on

ON MY SHREW'S DEATH

My shew is no longer breathing
This I really do lament
My shrew is no longer kicking
I find myself in torment;
I wonder where its soul went;
Could it be Alaska or Benelux?
This death definitely sucks
For it was a creature, a tender creature
Whose system ceased functioning altogether;
Today, I can only see a bleak future;
For it no longer moves
For it no longer laugs
Such lack of noise and motion means
Tears in my eyes and apathy;
Life without you is colourless;
Such a tiny peaceful mammal
Who has never pestered anyone
I will really miss this animal
Since now I am truly alone
For my best friend is gone;
Its little heart stopped working
And mine since then is aching;
I could hold you in my hand
So much fun remains in my mind;
If only time we could rewind!
There's no therapy to get over this
No alcohol since I'm a teetotaler
No video games. I loathe them
I can't focus on chess now
I can't read poetry like this
My shrew is always in my mind
But nowhere in my life
Just a cold still body
It's dead. Dead.
Like my joy.
Gone.
But worry not, my little mammal
This won't last long...
I will see you soon, my lovely friend

Crow Funeral

A dead crow lies in the open street.
Other crows gather around it and in surrounding trees.
There's no cawing, no sounds at all, as each crow individually
visits the dead crow, then returns back to observe from the trees.
The crows surrounding their dead companion in its immediate vicinity
and all the other crows gathered in the surrounding trees
all observe one last time their current departed deceased,
and all of this is done dead silently,
then after a few more moments of silence suddenly
they all in unison silently fly off and leave.
I've witnessed "crow funerals" first hand many times personally,
and every single experience I've had can only be described as eerie.

The Night of Unleavened Bread

Matzos slip into their mouths
Voices project merrily...tonight is
The night of Unleavened Bread

Lamb and other delicious
Meats and veggies... satisfies our taste buds
What a splendid night it is!

Wine's brewin' in our wine cups
The dinner table - creates pleasant talk
During this meaningful night

There's moments of quietude
When it comes to de-leavening our lives
But, there's moments of gladness

On this night of peacefulness
Cheesecake - a delightful treat to savor
During this night of pure bliss

RIP HOUDINI THE MOUSE

Several years ago we had a visit from a little mouse
He had his own home we didn’t want him in our house
He scurried across the floor hoping we didn’t see
I said lets set the trap so we could be mouse free

The trap was loaded with a little bit of bread
Next time we looked no bread and the mouse he had fled
So again the trap was loaded with cheese for a little treat
The cheese then disappeared and the mouse it did retreat

I called the mouse Houdini in honour of the man
He was like the escapologist and would get free if he can
Again the trap was loaded with a tasty little treat
Houdini he would grab it and scurry off to eat

By now Houdini was eating us out of house and home
I was getting quite fed up he wouldn’t leave us on our own
Again the trap was loaded and left by the kitchen door
This time poor Houdini didn’t escape and he is with us no more

RIP Little Mouse

Grieving

a thousand times I call your name
throughout the day
like I always would

you'd come frolicking around the corner
always making your way
to me

a thousand times I swear I feel you
brush up against my legs
like you always would

a thousand times more
I forget your gone
because you should be here
not there

but I know it's an oasis
one where your lungs are restored,
your breaths aren't shallow
and you're eating all of the tuna in the world

a thousand times I swear I wake up
you next to me
on the other pillow

I can't help but sleep against the wall
afraid I'll roll over on you

and then I wake up,
pillow bare
no indent
and the reality takes toll
a thousand times I've prayed for your soul

but in the end,
I'm alone

Forsaking Hope

An Angel stalked my better-half through my mind
Questioning our flawless design

Angel: "What is a beast if you grant it introspection?"
Man: "It's still an animal, yet closer to imperfection."

"What is a dog with no will to live?"
"A dog with a will always has hope to give."

"But dogs cannot contemplate, they simply are."
"Yet humans can, is it an improvement or a scar?"

"Undying love is a gift you bear!"
"What good is it when it hurts to care?"

"That is the beauty of woman and man!"
"But what is it, what truth is there to understand?"

"That is for God to tell"
"If our questions go unheard, I'm glad we fell."

"You've only fallen if you fail to see."
"I don't see god, but I can feel the animal in me."

"You would deny your God given status?"
"If God made us so great, then why can't we kill the bestial urges inside us?"

"Some people dwell closer to sin."
"Yet none of us can handle the animal within."

"I cannot help you if you can't agree."
"Only if I agree you will set me free?"

"Only with the glory of God can we save you and your kind."
"You cannot help me, you are just within my mind."

With that the Angel fell dead
The man stared calmly toward nothing and shot himself in the head

ALCOHOLISM

Today I sat all alone
Tired but wide awake
I was quietly crying to myself
Then felt a sudden shake
I wasn't sure if I was tired
Or just in need of drink
But suddenly it worried me
And made me stop and think
My body was crying out for help
I was ignorant I know
But these things we let happen
When we let our bodies go
We only have one chance in life
look after number one
Because your no use to anyone
When you my friend have gone.

Nightmare on Thanksgiving

Gobble gobble I run from you.

Gobble gobble I don't want to be in your next stew.

Gobble gobble when will this end.

Gobble gobble maybe 9 or at 10?

Gobble gobble I have tripped.

Gobble gobble I hear the dogs come like a whip.

Gobble gobble I don't want to die.

Gobble gobble as well. Deep fried.

GOBBLE GOBBLE!... BARK BARK!.... GOBBLE!!!.....
GROWL!.. SILENCE.

(Voice of Morgan Freemen: Thus ends the life of a turkey he could of escaped if he just flied away but that's not how nature works.

Maybe he was fed to a family or to an animal we may never know, what we do know is never wish to be a turkey you just may end up as Dead Meat.)

Mourning My Bounty

In order to survive in the wilderness, one is forced to kill,
which I have done many times to get my belly full,
but every time I was forced to cause an animal to die,
I would lay upon its carcass and begin to cry.

The Onyx Bird

The saddest thing I ever saw
Lay splattered on the floor
An onyx bird with feathers sprawled
I hoped he’d made heaven’s door.

Although his mangled body lay
Lifelessly on sad display.
Those who passed didn’t seem dismayed
But on the road he lay that day

His eyes had lost all their light
With his ability for flight.
And now he rests in god's great might
But still it is a saddened sight.

Do believe me when I say
That was not the tragic part.

Because faithfully at his side
There was a mournful chide,
While ruby blood stains dried.
Another onyx bird will bide.

Forevermore she’ll always long
For his beautiful melodic song.
Until in heaven where they belong
Both the onyx birds may soar like one.

Putrid Road Kill

I now know how Loudon Wainwright III was inspired. What happened to me was what I never desired. I have to consider this one of my darker episodes. Nocturnal creatures called skunks often cross the roads. They have a defense mechanism that keeps predators away. To describe what it is, I don’t need much to say. Driving on the road, I could not stop in time. That animal produced a scent that nobody calls sublime. The unfortunate black creature became another road kill. The smell emitted by the carcass remains there still.

Wong Road Taken

(With apologies to Robert Frost)

Four feet to the sky, he lay
in an attitude of surrender
confessing his sins
of hunger, of greed
of slavery to his quest
for surprise, for enchantment
around the next bend.

The Armadillo found
that life sometimes slings
death and destruction
and the road not taken
would have been the right one
had he known.

Untitled

An object
Forms the marks on my skin
They are permanently engraved
They are part of who I am

Artistic lines
Form my entire shoulder blade
Artistic, natural, and exotic
My ancestor's connected roots reassembled as something symbolic

A hummingbird
Forms a single warrior in the Aztec parade
My blood that runs through my veins now enhances color to the hummingbird's brain

A flower
Forms conflict between beauty and mass destruction
The flower wars was what my ancestors called it
They fought for what they thought was right
Believing in their gods and believing in their king with all their might

An object
To whomever else that sees it
To me
A rare and unique piece of history through a line of blood's memories

To Kill The Choctaw Cow

           To Kill The Choctaw Cow

The Choctaw Nation Oklahoma, with proud and noble people
Hunting is our nature and our way
Pretty Tail was a family member, a friendly cow
She gave us milk for many moons
This is the story of her kill
My father Bully Ten Foot is our chief
Old and ill from living beyond himself
Hills and tent on prairie land, filled our purpose
No game to feed us so our cows sustained us
Food was scarce through winters blasting bite
Pretty Tail stayed just outside my tee pee every night
Years of her soft moo would sooth me off to sleep
Starvation steeped in desperation came on hard
Crops failed, grazing ended without rain
Pain became the Choctaw, as one and the same
An Indian man must always be a brave
Must know his reason within nature and the nation
Bully Ten Foot honored me, with the sacred task
My hunting knife and I took Pretty Tail down below the neck
I slit her deep within her throat
She bled on me her blood, a river of sorrow
For hours I let her do so with her last drops of red
And held her tight as my best friend
Made sure my tears spilled over into her blank eyes
And cried for her, in her place
Never again will I wear hide or eat a steak
But I ate her brains for power
Rode at great speed on angry stallions back
Black, with strong memories in mind
And opened up inside the plains releasing spirits
To send her off
From Choctaw Nation

Blood Words, Legends of the Wolves

Yea, victors jest. They out-sped the cast of hunger’s cave. Their cantors, ragged kept, did reach an faithful end. They in the din o’ drizzle laugh, licking cool drams from stone, as had they crawled o’er hot pools bled to prod ‘n prattle. And who’d, when quenched, a saunter risk simply to gaze at greener gray, who if by haze be fraught, need merely fathom sky? Lest be displeasured he to whom above could clouds be prone to tattle, go but shy requests, voiced dryly into azure. For so the victims passed, betrayed by breeze and snitch of brush, though Him on High, with just demand, they had beseeched. Each life a tale brought to lie, defaced, in scattered, muddy tomes. Torn is the silver lace, which once linked bone to bone. Yet risen, too, had wanton sighs, whereof his Mightiest to ask, whilst the ground, as should it care, received the rasps. For what doth emptiness command and what the unseen sovereign willeth are left matters later glibly to be bantered. Know oft’ the hunt finds one befuddled, spelled by guiles of a wraith. No taunt of tail waves, no wake of twig gives sway. With head to hang, his rack he gathers in a push to halt to stand bequeathed a chide of birds and chipmunk heckles. There, the timber rout delays with naught but mettle left to drain, as the mars of rock and thistle mark the wait. Chafe of paw, tongue feathered fowl, the foiled dashes stream to words, whereto the blood, in ruddy tones, by droplets trickles.

End of the Family Picnic

We walk him to the
edge of the meadow,
at the very border
where the sun gets
snuffed out by shadows.
There are so many
mysteries in the dark
that only he may see
or m
aybe not.
We keep inventing hopes.
It's in our nature and
he is still here
with us in the sun,
but only for
the last few moments as
he needs to depart,
only the last few
moments of
light in his eyes.
"Good boy," we say
as we always do
to comfort him with habit,
and touch his lonely head.

Deer
Deer running through the forest,
As graceful as can be,
Her white tail in the air,
Saying "I know you're there",
As majestic as this beast could be,
It will be in great agony,
For the motorized beast has caught it.

Beloved Companions -part 2-

To every happy memory, there are sad ones that hit just as hard
And the sadness began when I looked at his side
To see a large lump there
 I wasn't as worried as I should have been…
Everyone thought Pentecost would be okay
For our other cat survived a thing like this on her own
She had bitten the lump off herself
Puss oozing out…and she had healed with no problem
This lump was different…
I cringe because it was wrong for us to wait
He began to grow thinner… his eyes began to look sad
He no longer ran from the window to the laundry
He no longer jumped into my dad’s lap for a pet
He didn’t even eat, and that was one thing I thought he would never give up…
Dreamy, but sad, I looked at him opening a can of his favorite meal
I wished there was something more to be done for him
I begged my parents to take him to the vet
Because I sensed it would soon be too late
My mother kept saying he would be fine in due time
But in a matter of two weeks my mom surely knew
And she was the one to say it…
She said softly, “I think he’s going to die”
I held him on the less tender side of his body near my bed
Tears building in my eyes
 I didn’t want Pentecost to suffer…
I wanted him to live life and be his happy self…

A Mad Gypsying On

i wonder if those cackling coyotes

hiking the surrounding fields sound

anything like Hell, well, i sure hope not.

Hell would be a terrible place to be.

still, i feel and fill with remorse.

it’s the middle of November and

it’s ruthless Ohio with her revenge.

with the love of fall beneath her

and the sparkling of frost in her hair,

beginning in the morning under a

fingernail clipped moon and too

far away stars and few headlights,

ohio offers her lullaby here, now.

scraggly pups made of fur and bone,

calloused paws to a calloused ground,

tough like old brick and new cement

and an icy pitch bark that bites back.

people are being pulled from these

pages that used to keep me wide awake

but now only keep me sad and conscience

in the too broad daylight in clean clothes

reading things too keep me soul sick,

to correlate with groggy afternoon insanity

that is not like tonight’s cold but like a

burning city, with me, standing—waiting

at the pier with the commotion of some

kind of humanity bleeding from the parks,

avenues, alleys, clubs, bars, and markets

but i only see the smoke and hear the clamor.

the rest is made up i suppose,

and my heart in the other senses.

but it is too true for those

coyotes in that cold and

i dare not let them in.

Rains, Legends of the Wolves

Toddlers teeter on the hollowed trunks and sport with juts of ice. 'Cross boulder bridges, flouting rapids, hop the agile blond and beige. Yet in close chase, for or found, and on uneven ground, they’ll slip. Clots in black and rose bespatter tans and whites. Though clouds may cope the flights of cubs and fawns in torrents spirit laden, steps shan’t be erased, where o’er plight’s edge they’re furrowed. Would least the cliff lay lad to nestle upon drifts of pedals fallow or as cradled by green swaths of summer blades. For if to hope, the whelp when bade need but renounce a bed of clover, might a father’s beckon stern retrieve the slain. But scolds can echo no reprieve where o’er forever’s precipice the yearling brown has left the seasons scarlet stained. Though with the day’s advance, a glance would chance the fact all tracks do fade, in the havens gray, in every trace, we dawdle. It’s the cleft that blanched a mother’s face. Bereft, her tears are gained. And blood ‘s been shed till never, like the rains.

Gunnar Draft

I know about a man of the early morning, a simple man. No man of deep thought, accompanied by those who do not. He is a man that very much enjoys the cool lush grass. He likes to take his shoes off while he works, to feel the dew between toes, on his chest and his face. In stillness and pain incomprehensible; all thoughts are halted. What follows is profound silence, which is when the beast lifts the earth, dense muck. Limbs strained and back arched, a fresh ditch. Or a resting place?

The Lions' Share

The Copenhagen Zoo did such
An awful, stupid thing,
They should have been prepared
For all the fury it would bring.

They killed a two year old giraffe,
One Marius by name,
And fed him to the lions,
Adding fire to the flame.

They had enough giraffes and so
A “surplus” wasn’t needed.
Despite the pleas of zoos and people,
Boldly, they proceeded.

Poor Marius was sacrificed
And made into a meal,
A horrible decision,
Idiotic and surreal.

Exterminator's Lament

People and mice
live together
forever. Mice don't
care. They just know
what they like.
 .
Caveman-like
tenant warm squats
food hubs,
babies' buvettes.
They navigate
with poor eyes,
by noses,
the dark
mazes.
 .
I have my own
trouble with sympathy.
Oh Disney how you have
led me astray.
I hear them
unkillable with their
pitter patter feet.

We Shouldn't Have Done It

What is this thing they've put me in
It's like a kennel made of tin
Why do they lift me in the air
This treatment really isn't fair

I'm tied down with canvas straps
Is this a trip for me, perhaps
I think I'm high up off the ground
And now what is this roaring sound

My vision's blurred I cannot see
What is happening to me
I'm getting heavier I think
This dry air makes me want a drink

And now the roaring stops at last
I'm so glad that noise has past
What's this, it seems I have no weight
This is a sensation that I hate

I hope they stop this feeling quick
I'm starting to feel really sick
And now I hear another roar
but much less noisy than before

My weight increases once again
and in my chest I feel great pain
And now that awful roaring stops
and the pressure finally drops

Now that those feelings have abated
I'm feeling really quite elated
Will this be my final fate
To live my life with no weight

Why I'm here I just don't know
Why do these anxious feelings grow
Why are these wires stuck in me
Why caged up, no longer free

Had it been explained to me
what my mission was to be
And if I'd known what was planned
then perhaps I'd understand

But I was given little choice
No protestations could I voice
My life means nort, I'm not a man
I'm just a cog in your great plan

Now I'm getting really hot
A dreadful feeling I have got
And then I realise with a sigh
that this will be my time to die

You've sent me here to die for you
and there's nothing I can do
except to think that others may
not suffer as I do this day

I'm burning up and feel such pain
as darkness falls upon my brain
To be the first, that is my fame
Remember ... Laika is my name

(Oleg Gazenko, "We shouldn't have done it. We did not learn enough from the mission to justify the death of the dog.")

Feeding Ignorance

On hillsides far from city streets black and white masses bound Backs warmed by sun’s rays Feasts of glorious green grasses Crystal clear barrels quench thirst Aged bodies heaved with care Post life parings Thick scarlet sludge siphoned through cement holes Walls echo screams of heavy hanging bodies separated kin Buzzing hums rip wriggling flesh and spill life from their fattened bellies.
