Silent Killer

Sugary drinks and decadent sweet desserts
indulgent chocolate and crumbling cookies
lavish ice cream - refreshing on summer days
entice my senses - craving more and more
nectarous delights of luscious nirvana
tantalize my taste buds calming my soul

Kiss of death - having a sweet tooth
ignorantly naive to the damage it causes
lusting forbidden vices that were devoured
life is never the same when diagnosed diabetic
erratic disease can be hereditary - constantly
reminded by how my mother suffers from it

A Vice You Love - Poetry Contest by Rob Carmack

In diabetes, rising blood sugar acts like a poison. The World Health Organization estimate that over 382 million people worldwide including 3.2 million people in the UK have diabetes.
Diabetes is often called the silent killer because of its easy-to-miss symptoms.
Diabetes affects 24 million people in the U.S., but only 18 million know they have it. About 90% of those people have type 2 diabetes.
Having a blood test will reveal if you have diabetes. I would highly recommend it.

Beautiful

Lusting the passions of a secret desire
Unwinding the mystery of my needs
Funerals are for the future
Internment I ask be deferred
Timeless is my youth
Useless is my request
At seeking eternity or at least eternal rest
End of times may seem long away
Beauty we know fades, it will happen some day

So I dream of youthful moments
Isle graveyards were far away

Holy wars and loveless scores
That a soldier must endure
A desire for peace escapes this generation and more
External forces and internal woes
Death dances at my door

Dedicated to Sara Bernhardt, who slept in her coffin amongst all her love letters.

DEATH

Dancing figures of extinction are an ultimate fate
expiration of existence matching best before date
afterlife or reincarnation - one does not advocate
times of sorrow they come together like a magnate
how sad - people only remember when it's too late

Ghaza

Grovel for blood, grovel for blood you bastards
Hunger for bodies of innocent children and flee
Amidst webs of mayhem you throw the world asunder
“Zionists we are, all so powerful, all so free!”
And again the injustice of war compels me

To speak in anger and utterly be
I am sorry fellow poets if harshness comes with words
But the news gives me not any joy, not any glee
For the people of Palestine are now in torture
And all I can do is watch Ghaza fall to become debris

ASHES TO ASHES

Aware of existence, this body breathes and bleeds.
Savoring the life it is given, memories it feeds.
Heart and home, love and life, experience it needs.
Educate, illuminate, deserving through actions and deeds.
Soil rich, harvesting good from well nourished seeds.

Time does not stop, does not stand still.
Over the valleys, climbing over the hill.

Age begins to show on depths of sunken skin.
Silenced the heart that once beating, life cannot win.
Heavy the tears that fall out from deep within.
Emptiness follows, decay will soon begin.
Soil become the resting place of my brotherly kin.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, every life sees how the world passes.
You will be, as I will be, to the wind we are blown, ashes to ashes.

Waiting

Mountains crumble no more to be
Oceans of woe since you left me
Thunder rolls and my heart it breaks
Humbly life ends, my soul it quakes
Everlasting grief with no mend
Reminds me daily, it will not bend

Inconceivable, this pain I bear

My love's not gone, together we'll share
In lasting glory at Jesus' feet
Serenity and grace, oh how sweet
Salvation unites on heaven's shore

Yesterday's gone, tomorrow brings more
Only a moment in time we wait
Until we meet at heaven's gate

Cancer

                                        Why do some get Cancer,
                                        When we know this has no answer;
                                        So this sickness isn't really Cancer;
Because we can not really find out the answer.
                                         So here I will answer,
For everyone who suffers from Cancer.

C Can not find the Answer
A Anger, for not finding Answer
N No just cause for this Answer
C Caring in finding the Answer
E Everyone thinks they have the Answer
R Rest in peace, Sorry had no Answer

Repugnant Shrapnel

The flood of human remains plummeting downwards. Horizon blackened, jolted from the sky. Towering waves of obscure aftermath swarm to the heavens. With a slight endeavor, kingdoms turn to squander.
Ravaging paths meet and become hordes of ailment. God’s hand has erected the retched bowels of man’s mass burials.
An avalanche of skulls,
Rain down the exhumed past of lost ancestry. Prophecies fulfilled to our graves of dispersed dead.

Welcome Home

E mbraced by Old Glory's colors, a fitting soldier's shroud.
L oved one's hearts are shattered, future hopes, dreams are crushed;
C omrades in arms salute him, adding a bittersweet touch.
O verwhelming grief consumes those left behind,
M eaningless words, platitudes spoken to be kind.
E arnest tales of bravery told of him who died.

H eavy with emotion, a nation shares regrets,
O ffering condolences to those who won't forget.

Rusted Memories Decaying

Ravaged and forgotten, I await my fate in this junkyard,
Under the fierce sun and pouring rain and snow . . . but,
Still within this rusted frame beats a soul and memories, and
There was a time when I was truly loved-
Every person admired my style and curves and my brilliance,
Death, oh d e a t h and old age is a terrible thing.

Memories are all I have as weeds and vines devour,
Even now, I can still feel the soft cloth that caressed,
Making sure my paint shined like glass . . . and,
On long rolling highways and hills, I glided a thing of beauty-
Roaring along without a care in the world (I was young)
Inside my interior was impeccable and my leather so soft
Eternity was mine- I was going to exist forever, but
Silently, the rust began and soon ruined and scarred my beauty.

Days passed and then one day, I was towed to this lonely place,
Eternity seems like not such a good idea now . . .
Chirping from within me where a little song bird has made a nest,
And windflowers and yellow dandelions keep me company.
Years have passed and more and more cars lay ravaged,
Inside my soul memories stir of happy times-
Now my windows have grown blank as dead eyes, and all the
Gnarled and twisted, rusting cars (once loved) wait . . . d e c a y i n g.

Death bridge

treacherous teachings as people peer into shadows
erasing all falsities they once held as truths
really, how long could they expect to live in sunshine?
really, how long could they expect to live in ignorance?
I've walked on death bridge too many times
believe me- crossing is an option
lemmings describe people's nature
escaping responsibility-
humankind a mix
unkind and lovers alike
man on the brink of a divide
an ocean of bliss below optioning
no return

To Die Alone

Cast
Out
Lonely
Dying

I then
Seek to
Ease pain
Ease suffering

Holy God above
Is it time
My time then

I ask so gently
Do not take me
I am not ready
Ease me into it

Battle Within

She's fighting a silent battle within.
No one notices, no one cares.
She wants it to end, but not knowing how.
The torment is so strong.
In her mind she wants to die.
No matter how hard she tries.
She cant fight no longer,
Tears will flow but she will know,
it will get better with her gone.

Anaconda

Animals, large and small, reside in the tropics of South America
None, however, as vicious and strong as the Eunectes murinus
Andes in Columbia is the home of the largest and heaviest of its kind
Cautiously the hunters hunt for her precious skin for monetary gain
Occasionally though they fall prey to this lethal smooth predator
Nobody is a match for her once she wraps around you like a scarf
Denying you air, you are her latest meal swallowing you whole,
Another day and another victim, just another victory for the Anaconda.

Sweatshop Sumei Dead

She was only three years old
When she was sold, forced to
Enter a world of slavery,
Amongst other children laboring,
To glue on buttons or “flair,” to
Sew pockets on shirts she’ll never wear, or
Hats she’ll never own, a clothing drone - for them,
Orders of greedy Americans, who
Pay pennies for her hands.

Sumei liked to feel the cloth move
Under her fingers, the smooth
Material against her face, to
Envision a world of beauty in lace,
Instead of her dirty working space.

Dreams of another life, of somehow
Escaping slowly trickled away, cowed by
Angry men, for quotas she couldn’t meet. So beat
Dead, age thirteen.

Freddie

Freddie

Friendship you offered me freely
Ready always to help and advice
Each comment structured and balanced
Delightful were the words you wrote
Drawing pictures and visions in the mind
Invoking thoughts that inspired
Each phrase and verse chosen well

I read the last poem he wrote before changing his id
to poet aggressor and to me it seemed he knew what
lay ahead. Maybe even welcomed it, I think he had,
had enough for who knows what he was going through
we all wear public faces keep the pain and torment
hidden. Freddie dear Freddie already I miss you so
much I will leave you with his own moving words.

Spoken Words

richness of the heart
the tongue will speak graciously
a bounty of words
spoken tenaciously well
incanting ones included

Mea Culpa

I'm the accuser
blaming myself directly
a sign of my guilt
pointless justification
without any allowance

Missing

at the funeral
unsuccessful burying
mourners in plenty
grave devoid of a body
instead thrown in a furnace

Anticipation

courage is with me
just as long I keep breathing
once I die I'm dead
apprehensively of course
don't know where I'm going yet

Children are our future

Pick up your rifle obedient child
Live a complete life in just a few days
Under your Sergeant's command
Curl your finger around the trigger
Kill with an unrepentant glee

I witness the hate that coarses through your veins
Seeping into you with the clarity of a true believer

A moments hesitation will not stand in your way

"Be all that you can be!"
Everything has prepared you for this day
Tighten the ammo belt around your waist
Tomorrow you will be hailed as conquering son
Empty your guts upon the expectant soil
Red poppies will sprout from the acrid soil

We will cry out to you promising Justice
Ordering the next child to the front of the line
Repeating the sins of all our fathers
Death meanwhile, gladly accepts our gifts!

Pick Your Poison

P ower held with in my grip, Run bastard, run.
I nnocence once taken can never be un-ripped.
C olorful the names they'll call me now, hateful;
k eep your pity, you've not poisoned my soul.

Y earling limbs spread for you and you rode.
O nly anger lofted life above the bloody fray,
u ntil today you'd thought nothing of my pain;
r ancid was your heart, but there are many deaths.

P igeon holed in the alley of your miserable hovel
o n a night as hot as hell, what will it be dear,I ask.
I display a fine array of knifes and a scatter gun,
s oftly I whisper Run bastard, runand laugh.
O nly, it appeared, he could not make a manly choice?
N o, poison, it’s too meek, too neat for my voice.

Nelson Mandela

Many born will choose paths in search of glory and fame

And after the dust has settled, not much value remains

Nelson “chose” with open eyes and a passion-filled heart

Despite physical pain and degradation, love kept his soul apart

Evil, he shunned when it would've been easy to embrace

Love, he championed throughout the marathon race

And now at last, peacefully, touched the finish line!

The Message

I'm not the greatest of all-times, but when I'm done, I'll be an all time great in this lifetime of mine Like the late great who came before my time I will breed a new lifeline, that will breathe life like march of dimes My story lines, will bring truth life; like troops who fight Overseas, for rights of those who believe that death is life Now that ain't right! As the rich is getting richer, eating fillet me-non, while we barely feeding our appetite Night after night Survival has waged a war that gave us no choice but to battle and fight Although, we'll be all right They say we a dying breed, but that ain't right Instead we're the light to a lying greed That will enlighten life to a brand new seed A man of God indeed Freed from the Son that bleeds Like the summer breeze He's the sum that equals the amount of air I breathe The air that please A satisfaction like the birds and the bees My word's words are the keys That will fornicate with the mind and give birth to a seed A seed of social change, that'll change our social economy So shall our comradery That will bring comfort to a struggling society A synonym...similar to a civilization seeking for unity Unifying the physics of theory That seeks to explain the synopsis of a dying philosophy Similar to the Cosby X-cept my scrip-tic will speak more about our reality Like life's calamity And everything else in life that's destroying us systematically However, I've discovered a system That can mathematically destroy ignorancy And turn our state of mind intellectually I elect that He (God) selects me to be And be that man who may lead this community So that they (My Peoples) may commute with me En-route to a destination, destine towards our destiny Like we were destine to be We were meant to be "Great" like the late great that came before we. Because we are... The reflection where perfection gave birth to the definition of greatness Where great means Competent, Skilled, Well Informed, and Tremendous Our potentials are endless And only we not even the enemy can put an end to this So it's time we put a stop to this The biggest enemy of self And that's envy and jelousness Cause after this is Heaven or Hell and that's all there is A promised made sealed with a kiss Knowing this Is the next best thing since "In the beginning" In the first chapter of the first verse in Genesis!

Fourth of July

For many years this day was one
Of my favorite times of having fun.
Until this date in Sixty-two
Ripped into my heart, cut it in two.
To leave it shredded for evermore.
He would never again come through the door.

Oh how we cried, the children and I,
Father was gone, too young to die.

Just as we were planning fun by the ton,
Urgent phone call and all was done.
Love was forever snatched away.
Years have gone by, it still hurts today.
