Woman

Strength! you are, and your name, Strength! Your head held high, the future is you. Leader of men, and protector of youth are you. Strong in mind and body, yellow, pink and gold, your heart; black, your determination. Your soul is calm and true. Like marble, is your name; Strength! you are, and your name, Strength! Wisdom! are you, call yourself Wisdom! Teacher, confidant and counselor, are words your toys? Sheltering visions, you look to the future. Dreaming dreams that call forth your wise counsel, you know yourself. Wisdom! are you. call yourself Wisdom! Courage! you are, your name Courage! In hardship and pain optimism rescues you. Selfless, empathy is your instinct. You are protector of all around you. Your children in darkest night cry out your name Courage! you are, your name Courage! Woman! is your name, you are Woman! I walk toward the sun to look for what is and what remains. It is you, all you, your strength, your wisdom, your courage. Name yourself WOMAN as before me you stand, delicate but strong, proud you are. Woman! is your name, you are Woman!

CAme here to answer your comment on my Silent Still poem. yes, my special night of age 17 is seared on my brain! Many of my love poems relate back to that special romantic night! I see I already commented to this one. Gotta find a different one now!

Thank you BW-I find it difficult to refer to you as "Broken Wings". It makes me sad-As long as you keep writing I'll keep reading.

Thanks Olive. It was VERY different when I began writing it. The title was originally "Mexican Petunia" and the first line of the last stanza began with the word Beauty, and it was difficult to write. When I wrote the line "It is you,...your courage. "I was thinking about my mom and my wife who was lying beside me, so I changed it to Woman, made it the last stanza and the rest came fairly easily.

Kim, thank you for your beautiful comment, but I think you give me too much credit. It is for the "End Line Word" contest.
