Tribute To Yasmin Khan
DO NOT FORGET
Your wired mind larger than Arabia
like a continent shrouded with beauty and rage,
I imagine you recalling the gush from Indian winds
the taste salted by curry fragrance
as your mouth drolls two languages,
till lashes of day forget night’s kiss...
Oh, but do not forget how desert sands
whisper your songs, to drain your troubles
on pita of seed-blessed lawns,
your eyes traveling across gentle sky
and down below, see the jasmines
naming your dreams
upon child-woman’s feet...for life-light
sparks in your womb, breath swelling
a prayer around moist dew... and here,
through love for self and kin, you are safe
within the overflowing beads
of a tranquil moon ; your mouth
a garden of bright joys unseen
that even in ruins of wired mind,
your breath shines among rocks...
Oh, do not forget the 'I' in your life.
................................
Yasmin is a talented poet. She is
from India but works hard in Saudi Arabia;
direly missing her family most of the time..
I hope she comes back-- she left Poetry Soup
a year ago due to the strain in her life.
Here is one of Yasmin's lines:
" Floundering, groping for a rational return..."
