To the Distant Shore.
I swam as I never did before.
Fear of deep waters
did not I deter
as with eyes closed
I headed for a distant shore.
With arms outstretched
I drew the waters back.
With stiff legs kicked
against the entangled mesh
of roaring waves and surging tides,
to reach the distant shore.
Sharks circled, nipping my sides
their tails the span of eagles' wings
yet that distant shore, above all things
I never failed to keep in sight.
With lips cracked by the salty brine
Oh wonders, I did just fine
with neither fear nor thought of dying
I crossed the ocean one wave at a time.
Arriving at last,or so it seemed ,
around me glowed a silvery beam
with stenciled tips and sparkly bits
that slowly waned.....
Alas, it was only a dream.
