Thirst For Life

Summer's sun at noon is a wilting torture, scorches earth and withers the flowers' faces. Breath to whistle shrinks away, throats athirst are choking for nurture. Dessert's climate visits Missouri's surface, cries for rain are shared by all earthly feeders. Turtles, lizards, frogs, and the birds begin a desperate search for shelter. Foliage droops as the trees dig deeper, blossoms shrivel, grass cannot grow. If rain is absent, earth will suffer and die. But rain has come. A dark nimbus. Rivers rise as water is sluicing downward. Life returns; replenishing showers blanket earth with moisture, roses unfold their petals, welcome the soaker.
