These Are the Golden Days
These Are the Golden Days?
By Elton Camp
Old age young persons often praise
Describing it as being the “golden days”
However, if they live to be that old
They’ll learn that it’s a lie they’ve told
Many times I don’t feel very good
Can do only a fraction of what I would
True I don’t have to go to work anymore
Have more financial security than before
Even as a youth, I didn’t look very well
And now I am most surely as ugly as hell
Decades ago, I had brown, wavy hair
But now only a little gray remains there
A liver spot here and a big wart there
Even small children I easily may scare
My hearing is already on the way out
Family members are beginning to shout
That I can still see isn’t a surprise
I have implanted lenses in my eyes
However, I am grateful to still be around
Since Alzheimer’s hasn’t taken me down
