The Sleeping Stranger

Eyes closed yet he sees every passer by. Never a smile I've seen in years. Pride does not allow a sign or a plead I wonder what he fears? A home he's made by a toy store perched upon a small brick wall. Each day I pass him on my small walk for a soda and cigarette draw. Emotion brewing slowly the longer this goes on Is there something I can do make a connection, friendly bond? Money seemed to pity him but I know he liked to smoke. So buy a pack for myself then one for him he won't revoke. It started out slowly our small exchange of gifts. Cigarettes for him to relax And a smile to make my heart lift. It's been months we've built a silent bond that fills my soul. He sleeps, yet when I get close He suddenly awakens and makes a joke. How does he know I'm nearing him perhaps its my sense of giving. I don't question it anymore I'm just happy he's still living.
