Blessed By the Light of Each New Day
Today, I woke up in the early morn
to the sunshine light of my brand new day–
a taken-for-granted circumstance
which, I so many times, assume it just will be.
But, today I offer humble thanks, that
in the comfort of my home, I live in welcomed peace–
no thought of hunger, cold;
no rights and pleasures of my life denied.
I freely walk the streets or country roads;
go anywhere I'm pleased to be,
and often do not think of many in the world,
so much less fortunate than me.
I give my heartfelt thanks for all these things
which are a part of my great life.
It is easy to ignore the blessed gifts
I just assume will come my way each day-
Each day, I breathe, I eat, keep warm,
dry, and safe; I work, I play, and sleep.
Each day, I see and hear, taste, smell, and feel.
Each day, I love and share– loved back in return.
These are ordinary- but essential things
that fill each second, minute, hour, days that fly–
so easy to become my taken-for-granted gifts;
I give my thanks- for each and every one.
For, when I really take the time to think
what a miracle it is just to be alive and well;
to share my life with my dear family and friends-
within my happy, precious world,
I give thanks to God, for this- my brand new day.
