Taken- Not For Contest
“Mama, what happened to your smile?
I haven’t seen it for a while”
She looks at her and sighs
“It’s been taken”
He holds her trembling hand
As he hopes to understand
Where the love that they had
Has been taken
She tries to write a line
Of the poems they called, “fine”
But the grand thoughts that she had
Have been taken
She looks at the shining knife
Wants to end to her sorry life
Her passion and her desire
Have been taken
They all stand round her grave
Each one trying to be brave
She had given them all love
But they had only taken.
