Our circle now is broken, small... from twelve to eight we are, that' all. Not long ago, some went away, and now we weep in sad dismay. Three women with their spouses gone, alone, they try to carry on. One man, now ill, left home to be with family...too far to see. We look around, which one is next? For, at our age, it is complex... one day you're well, and then are told, your living is somehow on hold. Beyond our circle, others fall; too oft, the paper says it all. A broken classmate or old friend was called to heaven...met life's end. So drowned in tears we are these days; the dark clouds linger 'neath sun rays. Our broken hearts are filled with pain beside these gravesites in the rain. Sandra M. Sad truth in this write, I've lost 2 close friends in the last year, 60 years old, you don't have to be old these days to die, this write was soo good Sandra, glad you both are in good health! Congrats on a fine placement!

Thank you, Laura...this decade of ages between 70-80 is the tough one. I thank God every day that so far my hubby and I are healthy, active and staying young beyond our years, but not so much for our friends. Thank you for your visit and congrats. Hugs, SAndra

Coincidentally I saw this meme (remember the word? :) ) only yesterday, and it has such deep meaning. How we live, and what happens when we are gone. Those questions bring tears, and are painful. Congratulations with your placement with this beautiful poem.

As we start to grow things of death is not a thought that comes to mind, but we age and start seeing everyone around us starting to cease and it hits us how and why .... congratulations on your win, Sandra:"( Hugs Eve

Well, said, Sandra. I hear similar sentiments from many older people; I am not quite there yet and imagine it very difficult and sad to outlive spouse and friends. Good luck with the contest, and hugs. Agnes
