Soul's Flight

Her eyesight has begun to fail. Soft-spoken words she cannot hear. Though once quite strong, she now is frail. She feels her final sunset near. Though sights and sounds that thrill her heart are growing dim, she feels so blessed. When senses only serve in part, her lively mind's eye sees the rest. She relishes a balmy breeze when roses bloom on warm spring days and trilling birds perch in the trees before they rise and soar away. About her soul, she feels at peace, assured it soon will make its flight The instant earthly breath shall cease, she’ll take her place in Heaven bright. posted August 25, 2015 June 8, 2018, entered in Brian Strand's June 2018 Premiere Contest June 22, 2022 entered in the Flight Two Poetry Contest Sponsor: Chantelle Anne Cooke

Our mortality is something we all must face and too many of us fear this natural part of life. I do think there is something good waiting for us on the other side... I enjoyed this beautiful poem, Janice. Very nicely done! Congrats on a great win!

Thank you, Kim! I'm in my early sixties; I am becoming more and more aware of my mortality. I'm praying that, when my time comes, I'll have the mindset I described in the poem! There was a grammatical error; I fixed it. (Ironic--retired English teacher! LOL)

Thanks so much, April. I had a grammatical error (a typo), but I fixed it. My former students would be shocked. I taught ENGLISH! LOL I will gladly read "Absence of Color."
