Weighing a Smile
When weighing a smile
you measure its worth
against the odds of
its sincerity.
Passion and desire
fuel hearts on fire
and yet, fickle flames
sometimes flicker out.
Salvaging fragments
of shattered ego
you suddenly feel
quite vulnerable.
And donning your mask
of obscurity
you seamlessly slip
into the shadows.
