ON MOONLIT BAY I splash my toes to stir the sea soft-rippling these stars for me glowing plankton spin and flee and disappear within the deep … oh - how I long for such a keep an inky depth in which to creep to hug me in its darkened sleep and wink away that fading light … so blessed am I on such a night a gentle sea and soft moonlight the harbor air lilts warm, despite long hours yet from break of day I know not why I’ve felt this way of plunging deep, this briny bay while granting death its final say so strange, its pull upon my soul … still, pain can reap us such a toll heartaches left me shy of whole yet, such an eve to sail the shoal! … I splash my toes to stir the sea. * SECOND PLACE in the "Rhyme Time III" Poetry Contest, Laura Loo, Sponsor. * (Rhyme scheme designated by sponsor - AAAB, BBBC, CCCD, DDDE, EEEA - line 1 and line 20 must be identical)

Thank you so very much, Luloo - I'm sincerely humbled and honored to be on a list with such amazing poets, and I'm so pleased you liked this one ... it was a bit "different" and ambiguous, but I do so love those words, and I find almost everything in life is capable of producing multiple - often contrasting - feelings at once. Blessings and thank you for the placement! :-) <3

Beautiful. I love the Ocean. To me the Ocean signifies "LIFE". Every time I swim in it, I'm reminded of life. I live in a very beautiful part of the world and I swim regularly in the Ocean - last weekend, I was surrounded by schools of silvery-white whitebait while I tread water in the deep, I could feel them swimming in and around my legs and body. I was very conscious of life all around me. Including the sharks. Thank you for sharing Gregory.

These are so cool - thank you for sharing! So you live in Australia ... one of the places I'm considering moving to is Vanuatu, off your coast. I would love to swim the Great Barrier Reef someday - on my bucket list, (although I'm a bit wary of the small box jellyfish). Have you ever seen Whale Sharks or Giant Manta? I bet you have seen some amazing things! :-)

A very beautiful part of the world. It is a shame that radiation from nuclear catastrophes are polluting our oceans and our world.

Thank you SO much, Leanne, such a wonderful comment, and I so appreciate it! I too feel very close to the ocean, and I remember clearly the first time I put my head under the water in St Croix, (I lived in the Virgin Islands for a while), and how amazed I was at the abundance of life on the reef, and the COLOR! I fell in love with it, and went snorkeling or scuba every day after work. I'm back in Maine now, but plan to move back to the Caribbean or South Pacific before my days are through. Where do you swim? (You can Soup Mail me, if you like!). Blessings and thanks to you!

Gorgeous penning Greg. I am reminded of a scene in The Piano... Holly Hunter underwater reciting a poem of the comforting silent ocean grave. (Love) My best to you in the contest dear poet xomo!

I've written a couple other poems with similar considerations of the water ... "Descent" and another I can't remember the title at present ... I'll go find and edit this post.

Ooh, I know the scene you're talking about, Mo ... I have done a LOT of scuba and snorkeling, (I lived in the Virgin Islands for a while - and I grew up on a lake, year-round), and I am SO at home in the water, and I've had many experiences where the deep spoke to me, "Come, drift into my arms and let go of the world" ... it may sound odd, but it is very comforting ... and yet very dark. Thank you so much ... I knew you'd "get" this one, Dear Friend of mine. <3

A winner for sure, Greg! Lovely use of assonance! So calming in its subject manner! A fave! Perhaps it will end up as poem of the day!!

Oh, that would be wonderful, Kim, thank you so much ... unfortunately, nothing is a given or a "sure thing" here, I have learned that well, (and sometimes painfully, lol). Your opinion is bound to be good luck, however! Blessings, my friend! :-) <3

Thank you so much, Jo - a lot of ambiguity in feelings, at least for me, and I like to express those more complicated feelings. Blessings, friend! :-)
