Old Fashion Summer

Here under these leaves of the lush gardens and weeds Grape vines crawl from post to post that create a resting spot for most And now the robin is guarding her young chicks so fair her nest is made of grasses and hair Trickling streams of a watery theme Where dragonflies hover and spread their wings And the so clever songs the robin sings For summer comes and brings the heat of the day Where busy children are out to play Oh treasure this, theses days that come to pass Where one may sit and drink a glass With lemonade and roller-skates be home before dark ,or at least by eight Laboring were the long nights of summer Were perspiration was a part of slumber And so we woke with sticky necks and sheets because all we had was a fan to beat the heat And reminisce theses days we remember Its soon back to school Were we could’t wait until late September

The details of the grape vines and the robin's nest make this poem come alive.

Laura, this truly is so reminiscent of the days of my youth, being out late, lemonade, all of it. Great visuals and the flow is so gentle and smooth. Excellent write. Michael
