No Time Like the Present--Cliches Contest

No Time Like The Present (Cliches Contest) I need to get out of this place! So very tired of everyone's bromidic rhetoric. It's sickening... The continuous chatter of a dramatic existence. It's sickening... Who are these people anyways? Shhhh! I hear my mother whispering some old cliché, so far away, "There is no time like the present", she says, and she's right again! I am tired of this malodorous smelling room. Tired of all the inferior, chintzy plastic furniture in it. It's sickening... And all of the neighbors tumultuous affairs. It's sickening.. To the birds with it all, I'm better than this! Have confidence in your own ability to overcome adversity. Be a doer not a hypocrite of your own dreams. GET UP! GO! LEAVE, YOU NEED TO LEAVE! It's sickening... Grease me up for I am wedged in this room. It's sickening... Well I am done being a mouse amongst all of these rats! I'm looking forward and never turning back! At Last! The motivation that I need! The door is opening as I walk right through it, and never look back... Ecstatic... Smiling... Happy... Goodbye Harvard University! 03/25/16

Hi Brian, Congrats on your win with this compelling piece--awesome twist at the end. One minute you got the reader thinking you're broadcasting this transmission from mom's basement--then suddenly BAM--we find out that you are actually talking the nation's most prestigious institution of higher learning! Awesome! Cheers, Brian

Wow, Brian! What raw passion you have in this poem, with good use of repetition ... "GET UP! GO! LEAVE, YOU NEED TO LEAVE!" ... I feel ya. Especially love the twist, because most people think of going to college as the beginning of your dreams, rather than the thing that is holding you back. I've written about this topic before in a poem called Rainbows Dreaming of Gray ... you can check it out sometime if you like, you might like it.
