Notes About The Poem

My Silence Speaks

I wish I could tell you
what you've done wrong
But there'd be no point
You'd explain it all away
and say, "Fight, Babe
Fight another day.
Battle scars come and go
This you should know
It's part of the game
fight another day."

I wish I could tell you
What you didn't do
That was wrong too
The hurt, it's just the same
I know, it's love's silly game
I'm done playing
You were terribly wrong
I can't be strong
I got no fight left
For another day

So, hey!
Wish I could tell you...
But, then again
My silence will let you know
I see it all
What you hide inside
Wounded pride
You lied
I cried
But if I tell you
All you'd do is deny

So...let my silence speak
Thought you're strong,
but you're weak
Fight another day...
Fight another day...

Fighting days are through
Yes, through for me and you
I have no words...no words left
So...I'll let my silence speak!

Silence lets us hear more clearly the needs of our hearts...sometimes its better not to guess what a heart wants, sometimes best not to rush undetstanding of why a heart does what does. I truly appreciate the street and cogent style of this write Eileen. I'm hooked on your vivid emotions...J.A.B.

A silence louder than words. I find that a very interesting topic for contemplation. I will be thinking of this poem for some time, I believe.

Wow, no need for silence, there's power in the written word! In a relationship, though, silence is the kiss of death. When the person doesn't care enough to fight, it's time to move on...hugs, Rhonda

Yes, you are right. When you don't care to fight...it is time to move on. One of my favorite songs is the one by Michael Bolton: "A Time for Letting GO." Thanks for the visit, dear. Hugs

Silence can be deadly...In my opinion it is the strongest form of disappointment in a person you love/loved....hugs Tim

Of all things I hate the silent treatment the worst. I figure if someone shuts me out they weren't much of a friend to begin with.

Well, I understand your point, Richard. I'm all for talking things out. However, there are times when talking just doesn't help. If the other part is never able to admit there is a problem...if he rationalizes things away, if he says that it is due to oversensitivity...what's the point of talking it out? It won't get anywhere. I'm glad we have open communication... :) Hugs to you, my dear.

It's a strange thing to say but I agree silence can 'say' more than the spoken word - Whether this is a factual or fictional write it just proves relationships aren't easy are they! Hugs Jan 7 from me:-)

Silence is the death of love, Shakespeare tells us. When one loves us, nothing will do wrong. When does wrong then there is no love. Very profound and sentimental poem masterfully written, dear Eileen.

My sweet dear poet. Your visits are always a delight. Yes...to wrong someone to the point of breaking a heart does show a lack of love...thus, it merits silence. Thank you for passing by. Filakia
