Embrace

Oh to have my mother in my arms again, her perfume so familiar and she so sweet. I am older now yet miss her heartbeat as when I listened while in her womb. I miss her so much I cry not knowing why, only that the cord is broken. While she lies below ground I am adrift, with her I was found. My DNA strands flail loose and lost, looking to connect, where's my boss? Always at my back, strong and tall, giving me the strength to carry on. Oh to have my mother in my arms again and have her loving peace on me descend.

Jean, this is beautiful, heartfelt and incredibly touching. You have honored your mother so well, thank you so very much for sharing this with us, as well as for entering this beautiful poem into the contest. My heart is deeply stirred as I remember the scent of my own mom, which was actually her Pond's cold cream, I hadn't thought of that in such a long time. Thank for sharing this poem, and for sparking a happy memory of my own mother for me. Congratulations on your well-deserved placement

Thank you so much for the placement BJ. One of my mother’s was oil of Olay. You have just reminded me of my goodnight kiss on her cheek as she cleansed her face before bed.

Thank you Line. She is dead ten years now and yet some fleeting reminder can still take me unawares.

My mother was my mentor. Together we just got on with it. She left her words behind. They comfort me still. remember your mothers words. They are forever. Good writing style. Not overcooked. Just write for the occasion. David from NZ

Your comment was also "just write" David. I spent 8 months as a midwife in Hawera, North Island in 1984. Amazing people. A midwife I worked with sends me a hand painted Xmas card each year since then.

To lose a father is to lose a rudder. To lose a mother is to lose an anchor. Personally, I still drift. On a foggy night, you can hear me. A lovely piece, Jean. Viv x

A fortune teller told me recently I have four spirits guiding me, two men and two women. For sure, she is one of them Andrea. Thank you for your kind comment.

Daver, thank you for stopping by with this lovely comment. It was only afterward I realised the title implies I was in her arms. Really, is there any difference in the circle of life?
