My Jack-F

Duly respected by others of his kind. Deeply loved by me, my family, and friends. He was more than a TV star like Rin Tin Tin. His name wasn’t Lassie, but he too was smart. He was surely a family member and a friend. My dad gave him to me when he was just a pup. He loved to play, run, jump, and ride in daddy’s truck. I loved baseball, mama’s peach pies and black eyed peas. He didn’t pick fights, but could hold his own against any dog. He was my protector, my dearest friend; O I loved him so. I had lots of friends, but none compared with “My Jack”. Sadly, one day Jack came hopping and barely made it back. Jack was shot for trespassing in a mean man’s cotton field. Tough as nails, but his wounds were too severe to be healed. He didn’t have to shoot my Jack! But back then, animals had no rights. Perhaps he never considered the pain to Jack, nor to those who loved him dearly. My Jack was gone, tragically torn from his loving home; but he was never alone. My whole family mourned, as we lay Jack to rest under a tree in our front yard. I suspect that my heart for personal pets died that day and was buried with My Jack. But some 30 years later, my wife and I bought our kids a Collie and called him Jack. 06042016PSCtest, Beloved Pets.BJ Legros Kelly
