My Dreams Are Like Poems

My dreams are like poems, they come to me through that unseen door to the unknown mind. Why and when they come I know not--in my youth they came as child's play first, then later as poems of soft love and hard lust, some written, some lived. As my youth aged, the poem-dreams faded, until one forgotten day the great door slammed shut without a sound.... For half a life-time it was sealed tight, forever I believed--until some small wonder chanced to pry it open... what I do not know: perhaps the memory of a tangible dream, a dream real as life of a long lost love. Now the dreams come in platoons-- the poems oft with them-- two sides of the same golden coin?

L.J., have you ever received inspiration for a poem when you were dreaming? It happens. A dream I had a couple nights ago could be a novel. And it's said our most creative thinking is done in the Alpha State, just before falling asleep. Enjoyed hearing about your dreams! Congratulations on your placement in Brian's contest. Best wishes, Carolyn

Thanks Carolyn, and yes, I suspect 'inspiration' comes from dreams--Coleridge wrote 'Kubla Khan' after a dream, it's said. What amazes me most is how we all seem more imaginative in our dream life than in our waking life! (p.s. Are you going to write the novel?)

Thanks, Kim! I appreciate it-- and I do suspect creativity may be born in the unconscious-- soul?-- as some of my best 'stuff' comes to me in the morning, soon after I awaken. I suppose there's a metaphor in there somewhere....

Len, Congratulations on your nice win. Thank you for all the time you took supporting and entering my contest this past year 2015:-) I'm taking, this time, to explain how I really enjoyed every entry. I truly wanted to place every poem, but two with higher placements. However, it is a contest and with all the bickering going on about the way we judge our contest. I did not place everyone the way I wanted to in this contest. I do APOLOGIZE. Please don't be upset if you are sharing a placement or did not make the top 10. I feel every poem, should have been placed higher. Stop by my latest Blog "Favorite Type of Poem" when you'd like or have time. Celebrate by sharing with us, Your Favorite type of poem. Have A Blessed Year. Love SKAT

Getting old, Skat, gives one a greater perspective on life. I no longer think that being number 'one' means you're better than number 2, or #ten or not placing at all. The reality is as the cliche goes, fame is fleeting-- I'm happy if a few people. even one person, gets a bit of meaning, a novel way to look at life, out of one of my poems. In truth, I'm happy just to be able to give birth to them, and as with any child, no parents really knows how the kid is going to turn out-- so please, no need to apologize whatsoever-- instead, seek joy and know God holds us all in his hands.
