Mrs Baker - True Story Contest
Was a dark and spooky night
Was on night duty at an old hospital
The ward was new to me
Geriatric ladies who were poorly
I ran myself ragged answering the bells
Except for one old dear who just lay there and smiled
I would ask is everything ok anything you need
I am fine dear she always replied
Time came for the hand over
The day staff had arrived
Went through the names reporting on each
Til i came to Mrs Baker the staff looked perplexed
Ar you sure of the name they asked in unison
Of course i replied bed no 4
She's been a sweety no trouble at all
Staff they said we have no one of that name
I went to the bed it was empty except
For a slight indentation in the sheets
I looked , they explained, Mrs Baker
Had died ten years ago, was happy there
Now and again she came back for a visit
I hope I will meet her again.
