Childhood Fantasies

Growing up means following social rules,
making hard choices, and learning what works.
And having zero tolerance for fools
who’ll never cease acting like complete jerks.
Responsibility looms in the wings
as innocence begins to disappear.
And you no longer play with childish things
or openly express feelings of fear.
Eager to play out your role on life's stage,
you disconnect with the wonders of youth.
And your endless world shrinks to fit your age,
trading tall tales for reality's truth.
When dreams aren't as frequent as they once were,
childhood fantasies soon begin to blur.
