Midnight Bells

The bells tolled till midnight another soul lost the fight At the wake many tears were shed funerals are for the living, not the dead the eulogy was done by Pastor Fred who spoke of fire and brimstone instead At the cemetery we bid our last goodbye and laid him to rest under a sad gray sky

I kept going to different old poems and even then, could not find a new one for me to comment on. Anyway, this was a good one to revisit. A great little poem about funerals. I like the phrase: funerals are for the living.

Enjoyed reading this one..My husband says that he always tries to comfort the family when there is a death..I have only know him to preach a sermon once at a funeral..He knew a young man there who he had taught in Sunday School and he knew that he had not made a profession of faith so he preached a short sermon within his comforting words to the family..Sad day for the family whose family member who has passed on to eternity..I hope not recently for your family..Thanks for stopping by..Sara

Glad you enjoyed my poem, Joseph. You are right - spiritualism is rampant. Cute poem - I don't like the fire and brimstone message, but its alive and well. God bless, Maureen

From the title I expected a poem on the matin bells, as they ring at midnight. I thought funerlas were supposed to bring comfort, I hope I do not get Pastor Fred when it is my turn.
