Days of Washington

days of Washington where I lived my childhood, the sun - which sometimes comes - never stays my dad was my sun, and Mother tells us girls how much fun our father used to be on rare occasions my dad would shine for me. . . till rain came like that of Washington In one photo, I am sitting on his lap and rain has washed the smile from his lips Mother couldn’t stay; rain flooded my dad’s mind, and Washington we then left behind A poem for the Contest using the Melancholy Form created by Constance La France

Andrea; This is a beautiful poem of past memories. Thanks for sharing this with us. You wrote this on the day I went to the hospital. I am feeling a lot better. I just started to drive my car, but I still have a long ways to go before I recover..... lucilla

My dad left us with Parkinson's and dementia. It was a very sad thing. There have been many other losses along the way.

Andrea, I was just looking at your comment about this and realized I don't think I responded to what you said. These types of events are embedded in our subconscious forever. So much can be taken away from us by fate. I really love the way you expressed your feelings in this poem. Of course, these feelings are rekindled by events that have recurring themes in our lives as we gain experience and wisdom. I am afraid that loss is one of the painful things we must deal with. You are eloquent.

The title and last stanza says it all. So sad for the families that live with mental illness. I have been touched by someone else's demons also. My poems Nemesis and Uninvited Stranger will give you a glimpse . Thank you for the honesty although spoken so eloquently

This is a sad story indeed. I can't tell whether it was a family break-up or whether you dad was ill. In any case, you just brought me to a different place for a little while. Thanks.

This came across as some sort of snapshot for me, and I like how you wrote this in short verses--like browsing through an album-- very nice how you incorporated the sun and rain here...you sure put in some melancholy here and leaves me sort of wondering and hoping you moved to a better place after... hugs to you...
