Faking Feelings
Faking feelings is what you do best
while touting trust and all its values.
And adopting hope's many guises,
you deny vulnerability.
Loneliness divides reality
into darkening shades of despair.
And it's a struggle feeling ignored,
believing that no one out there cares.
Anger feeds off of indifference,
while jealousy thrives in love's domain.
And truth provides little protection
from the distorted lies testing faith.
Wisdom deflates inflated egos,
allowing time for thoughts to gestate.
For happiness can't be chained to tears,
love requires trust to make it real.
Spent on a splurge of self-deception,
hope's the last treasure your heart depletes.
And confusion is a side effect
of dreams scuttled on the rocks of doubt.
Shadows of yesterday pierce your heart,
yet laughter masks the pain you're feeling.
And those plastic smiles, like cheap jewels,
lose their value; measured against tears.
