It Is Summer - Contest
Baskets laden with goodies
drinks and food galore.
It's the season of the picnic,
tree stumps useful once more.
Table tops and benches
these tree stumps come in handy.
Dragged into a circle
so food doesn't get sandy.
Children are excited, thirsty too
'cos running round a park,
takes the thirst right out of you.
Singing and playing until dark.
Birds are tweeting overhead
their needs will all be met,
crumbled crumbs of cake and sandwiches,
ready for the birds to eat.
Someone starts to carve the tree stumps
with a name or two and date.
All the older ones want a turn
making the tree stump look great.
Memories stored in these words
for all the world to see.
Won't mean anything to anyone,
except the likes of you and me.
