I Cant Keep You Safe

I can keep you safe from harm
That is lurking in the night
I can protect and keep you
From prowlers hidden from sight

I can shield you from the glare
Of the sun that wants to scorch
I can chase demons away
I can set the fiends to torch

I can stop you from sinking
Wrap my arms around you tight
I can pull you to dry land
Be your warrior in a fight

I can shield you from the truth
That can pierce your tender heart
I can keep you dry and warm
When deluge from heaven starts

Oh, but my dearest loved one
I can’t make this promise true
From my passion and my will
No safety is offered you

I cannot lend you safety
From the storm of desire
I can’t offer you shelter
From passion’s scorching fire

I can’t keep you from drowning
In the torrent of my need
And I cannot hide you from
My frenzy on you to feed

I cannot vouch protection
From the raging of my heart
I cannot promise you now
I won’t tear your clothes apart

Perhaps I better leave you
Never look upon your face
For your eyes, your lips, your smile
Will make me storm that safe place

I’ll surely leave you exposed
Defenseless against my will
And because I know all this
I will leave you tranquil…STILL

You don't just wear your heart on your sleeve. You wear it on the belt of your pants and the bangs of your hair. Another very deep & touching expression.
