Hey Kids, Which Pie
Listen to poem:
Hey, kids, which pie should grandma make this year?
Thanksgiving Day is right around the bend—
Shall it be Pumpkin, Apple, Mince, or Date?
The choice is yours, please tell me what you wish.
Oh grandma, why don’t you surprise us with
A special pie we never had before,
A new and tasty one, a unique treat—
Our highlight of this year’s Thanksgiving feast.
That afternoon, in my old rocking chair,
I sat with my new pastry book to search
The recipes it offered, old and new,
To find that special pie...but as I read...
Miss Lemon Pie did curtsy with a wink,
And holding hands with Cocoa Cream who bowed,
Did quite a little dance and hopped and skipped
Around the room, and then were joined by the
Twin pies named Cherry and Cranberry Cream,
Fraternal twins of course, and before long,
They're linked with Miss Strawberry and her date,
Blueberry Pie and his pal, Caramel.
And they were joined by Bourbon Pecan Pie,
Miss Pear and her friend, Key Lime Pie, and soon
Molasses and Pineapple Cheese where there
With Watermelon Pie and Rhubarb too.
At once, Banana, Peach, and Mango came
To join the happy crowd of these sweet pies.
Together all held hands to dance around
The room and sing their Pie Allegiance Song.
I think my legs moved to their song and dance,
For soon I felt my body gently rocked—
Wake up, wake up, dear grandma, please wake up!
We think you fell asleep and had a dream!
