Heartbeat
I close my eyes
concentrate, and feel.
There it is.
Primal, simple beat
something that started, before my time
my birth.
The complexity of human life
is in the simple beating,
keeping you alive.
Living, breathing.
The beat that drives,
makes us breathe,
hear
see
touch
and everything else
that makes us human.
I hear it
thrumming in my head
sometimes rushing
in my ears.
I can't escape that sound
when silence washes over me
I hear it.
Getting louder, drowning
I can not escape it's consistency
not in life.
Will death bring the silence they all wanted?
The beat says something else.
Defies them with its sound, its life.
It is the struggle
to survive.
Natural human instinct
no matter what.
Keep beating, keep going,
I close my eyes,
and I hear it.
