First Date - a Poet's Dozen

Love, love, love, at last Sang thus my heart full of glee Turned it to dull hate A most charming boy he was, thought I, why, of my horrible past, he never did judge Yet, on our very first date, he asked for a gift, one beyond my purse's range Nearly an adult was I, still, I let myself be blinded by his sweet looks Thought I, love was now, later, it would be a marriage, lasting for a lifetime Wanted him only a taste of my body and to have a go at my money When I did refuse, he turned all violent And left me for another, within moments so speedy Cared he never to be seen as one so indecent Cared he only to find someone who would care to have on him, all her money, spent! 25 Dec 2015
