Love the use of contrast between the negative image of the word buzzard with the absolute grace and beauty of their flight. True masters in the air. In reference to one of your comments, Richard, at times where I live you can see hundreds if not thousands of vultures spinning in a whirlwind that reaches thousands of feet in the air. Incredible sight. (It is over a garbage dump) Also, I enjoy reading your comments almost as much as your poetry. Your verbal wit is... ah, words fail me.

Cheers James, I appreciate your visit. I sometimes wonder how many people whereI live just go through life miserably without bothering to look up and see some joy. Then again, maybe we all do that sometimes. Regards, Viv

Nature, the season, that last line....the feathers as blades or a vague reference to the talons .....Love this one Viv, methinks it should have surpassed the angels.

Thanks, John, much appreciated. It's nice when the contest subject can evoke such strong Haikus as the entries for this one. Yours was positively etheral, nice one. Regards, Viv

Thanks for the compliment, my missus doesn't think I'm ugly but then again, she's the woman who has a favourite watering can in the shed x

Thanks, Andrea, there are some terrific entries here. I think the very economy of the Haiku makes one work a little harder, which is good. Viv x

Thanks Linda, I'm flattered. There are some terrific entries and I've only just finished commenting on them, so your typing fingers must be exhausted. I suggest you rest them in a large glass of Pinot Noir. Then dry them off with your tongue (hic!) Viv x

Thanks Rob, the way those wing feathers can move as one or independently fascinates me- I can only just wave to somebody without having to really concentrate. Regards, Viv

Came to read your reply...read your reply to others...and had another round of chuckles. But then, the idea of myself exploding gave me the best imagery of the very British "bloody" sight, no matter complimentary the line may have been intended. :-)))) hugz!

Thanks, Paul, got that last line from watching my brother's parrot preening itself, and the fanned-out wing looked a little like a Swiss army knife. Plus an analogy to propellor blades, so all in all an effective line, methinks. Regards, Viv

Ah, this is one haiku moment one would not wish to miss! Love the sharp turn of your juxtaposition in the last line, which is poetry in and of itself. Awe! should do well in the contest! hugs!

Thanks, Lee, it's nice to be a short walk from Buzzard country. During the snows, one can walk out past the village into the fields with some raw liver and they circle, waiting. Makes the two hairs on the back of my neck stand on end.... Viv x

Wow, I love this imagery, kinda dark, but great, Viv! Should be on top rung :)

Thanks, Richard, a short walk from my home out to the fields beyond Mackworth village on a warm day will normally be rewarded with a buzzard patrol. Recently watched one glide over my house before it joined six others, spiralling upward like a tornado before peeling off and heading North. Left me speechless. Regards, Viv
