Facing Up To Cancer

Thought I’d be fine, I just hadn’t a clue You never think it could happen to you. Shock and denial raced to the fore My head is in bits, can’t think straight anymore Unaware, in the dark, attacked from behind Fear grows from not knowing and cripples the mind Knowledge I've gained, Strengthened me for the fight It’s like someone turned on a very bright light I see you now clearly, I recognise you As the Beast that would kill me, 'cause that’s what you do So now I'm aware of what must be done There's no way I'll give in without taking you on I am not on my own, I’m supported each day With weapons to Cut you or Nuke you away From my body and mind until I have won Or controlled and pegged back 'til you’re on the run I will look in your eye and you will soon know That I've got what it takes to give You a 'Square Go' With the support that I have, we will fight tooth and nail. As we battle you Cancer and we Will prevail.

You wonderful people who are the Supporters of Cancer sufferers and survivors are My Heroes. I am sure your hubby would agree. I thank you. Those whose Partners have or have had Prostate Cancer form a group known as the 'WALNUT WAGS'.

Rob, I'm moved by your poem. The message you give at the end. IS more powerful than cancer. Never give up the fight. The word frightens me. I do hope you receive all the support you need. Sending hugs. SKAT

Thanks SKAT. Fighting Cancer is a Team effort. The medical professionals and our Home support do their bit so it helps them by knowing that the Cancer patient is doing their bit by adopting a Positive Mental Attitude. Getting depressed gives Cancer a 'Walkover' Victory. A GSOH helps too. A lot of people who have no experience of cancer or sufferers of it feel awkward about bringing the subject up or discussing it. They should shelve their inhibitions and talk about it openly.

The Consultant Surgeon didn't mince his words at all when he told me. On the bright side however, he did have the good grace not to end the consultation with 'Have a nice day'.
