A most sad and divine debut poem, Jan. I went back to the beginning of your poetic archives. This poem is breathtaking and tear making. A beautiful testimonial tribute to your father. A very heart stirring poem. I am sorry for your loss. Love always.

I had this poem read at an event held by hospice as they were incredible during dad's final year - i think many can relate to these lines:-( hugs Jan xx

Jan, this is deeply affecting. My reading glasses were wet by the time I got to the last line. The empty chair is an inspired conceit. Standing applause.

Thanks Suzanna:-) It also was a very unselfish act from my husband and son too - they insisted I was with the family and not with them for Christmas day although they did come to the hospice to collect me and see dad - hugs Jan xx I actually cooked Christmas dinner on boxing day and mum and my sister came and we celebrated then:-)

I wrote this the month before dad died knowing that it was going to be our final 'family' Christmas my hubby organised for me to eat my dinner at hospice - they had originally said just for 2 people to have the meal I said for my mum and sister to eat with dad and that I could just be with them and eat at home later - dad opted to eat his meal in the dining room and not in his bedroom when we got in the room they had laid a place for me too - was a very emotional time:-( hugs Jan xx

Jan, what a poignant write. Congratulations on your win. Reading your poem caused me to cry with you. Almost everyone can relate to this. It's hard dealing with that empty feeling but, knowing that our loved one is in God's care helps us over those difficult hurdles. Still, we miss them. Hugs to you, dear poet friend. Janece

Thanks Tim I have never really shared my poetry with my parents - it was something that came about after my husband was recovering from cancer surgery - mum isn't aware of his illness - are too kind in your praise I just write as a way of expressing my emotions and also hopefully with some poems to make people smile - never penned a poem before Nov 2013 now I cant stop! :-) Hugs jan xx

Wonderful Jan! I did not pay proper attention to the title...Cancer has taken it's toll on my family as well so I can identify...My prayers are with you all of course...Your dad raised a wonderful and VERY talented daughter...
