Remember the first-time daddy
gathered the family aside
and taped your drawing to the fridge
with a big smile; well, that's called pride.
When mommy gives you a big kiss
as she lifts you up high above
and then squeezes you oh so tight;
well, my dear, that feeling's called love.
Remember when the lights went out
and you fought to hold back a tear
because scary thoughts filled your head;
well, that feeling is known as fear.
When you were told the dog was lost
it was so difficult to cope,
but you insisted he'd be found;
well, that feeling's what we call hope.
When you lost your friend's bicycle
and you gave him yours to borrow
because you felt so sad inside;
well, that feeling is called sorrow.
When you get up on Christmas day
to discover a brand-new toy
and you feel so happy inside;
well, that great feeling is called joy.
