DESPAIR Dark night outside Only lanterns shed light The cold creeps up my spine How long before daylight will warm my soul my heart my core so hard Today she kicked me out I hurt I'm lost alone what do I do? I hold my dog sole source of warmth We'll find a home We will We will I'm sure... The world Is vast Somewhere Will be A home that lasts That loves Welcomes I'm sure... *** 1st place in contest: Duplex Sponsor: Jan Allison December 7, 2016 Checked with How many syllables.

At least the love between man and pet remains strong...if only it could work that way between man and man.

Darren, I think that in the temple of our unconscious, we know that everybody should be let in. A lot of that message is easily lost. Excellent poem full of basic truth about humanity. Indeed, how long until sunrise warms our souls? And in the end, I think we're kidding ourselves about a lot of stuff.

We do. In fact, until very recently I didn't have a real home... There should be a shred of humanity in everyone, but unfortunately so many people lack even the basics.

Oh my Darren, this one caused an ache in my heart as I read it. For two reasons, because it is so well written with deep emotions and feeling and because this sadly does happen in the world. Good luck in the contest.

It does exist, there are so many homeless young people, and a large number of them is LGBT youth... Thank you, Chris.

This is beautiful, Darren! A dog is indeed man's best friend, keeping him warm in his loneliness and despair.

Amazing how many sad moments are brought about by a specific subject of this nature. well written Darren They say that if you lock your spouse and dog in your car boot for an hour and then open it which one will still be happy to see you afterwards - LOL All the best in the contest! Mark
