Disarmed By Beauty, Vanquished So

She wipes the sleep from her misty eyes With fragile hands and polished nails; And modestly as maidens do-- Femininity prevails! And the coffee she has sweetly brewed, Too hot, thus earns a gentle blow; Then is sipped with last night's ruby lips, And delicately so. I am weakened by her waking eyes And by the spill of golden hair; Just a vanquished foe, and quartered, In both fever and despair. For I am fallen on this battlefield, And cannot win so grand a fight. This Knight disarmed, and in disgrace-- Will rest in chains, come night.

LOL. Clever...a little dry wit is always welcome here! Sad to say, though, the Knight remained in chains all evening, while the Maiden went out on an EHarmony date :( What can you do?

Speaking of restraints, this is most entertaining. We indeed are powerless when the right women beguiles us.

True enough. Why is that? This poem is--in my mind, X-rated, but don't tell anyone :) I think the Knight wins in the end. Peace, Mel :)

Praise from Caesar :) You are--I can sincerely say, a gifted poet. You know the maxim, "You can judge a person by the company they keep." I don't like the judging part, but I'd like to hang with the likes of you. You will challenge me, and elevate the quality of my work Win, win! So, when you feel inspired thus, we can share crazy metaphors and create....the shadow knows! Later, Mel

Absolutely fabulous! What an amazing poem. I'm in awe. I would try to point out the lines that especially spoke to me, but.....I guess it would have to be that very last stanza.....Also, I'm weakened by her waking eyes....You lead us to imagine what went on..and what will go on...so artfully.

Thank you Eileen. You're a gifted poet, so I value your feedback. That you understood the subtext, the unexplained of what was and will be--and your appreciation of the alliteration and imagery, is attribute to your eye for poetry...and is greatly appreciated. Just made some minor revisions, which I think make the poem stronger. Thanks again, hugs and smiles // mel :)

Hi again, Jan. Since this a relatively new style for me; a grand departure from my 8/7/8/7 quatrain tendencies, I have made a third revision; all done, though. Check out the new and improved, if you get a minute. I'm sure you'll agree...mel :)

Anne, I know you have a good eye for imagery and poetic device e.g. alliteration, etc. This is a new style of writing for me, so I just finished my third--and last revision. If you can spare a minute, please reread as I value your thoughts...Thank you my sweet--oxox // Mel

You are as welcome as a summer breeze, my friend. Your comments fall upon the eye, as lightly as the butterfly; and lift my soul with every word, as the butterfly--or hummingbird! See what the Soup had done? Anytime I speak or write, it's in rhyme and meter lol Thanks Anne Lise, sincerely. oxox mel :)
