Courage...
I never should have said a word,
But impulse egged me on;
I made sure you understood and heard,
I can’t take them back now, they‘re gone;
I tried to censor what I said,
But it came out loud and clear;
After I said them, all I felt was dread,
As I hung there lingering in fear;
What was I thinking, I may never know,
That damn shot of courage did me in;
I stand there waiting for the emotional blow,
And the tension prickles my skin;
And then, suddenly you smile,
Hug me and say you do too;
Turns out my courage was worthwhile,
As I said words long overdue.
