A Blown-Out Candle

The fairytale is all over.
He tried to no avail to breathe
life into his moribund romance,
so he's blown out the candle
keeping the fading flame.
He's been fighting to keep it
from dimming to a tapestry
of smoke stringing up the ceiling
But what's the point?
What's the point of salvaging
a romance that is doomed to fail?
How did it get to this? They were
once the epitome of happiness
Love was their bright candle
in happier times, but they grew apart
with time. His hand could only hold
a love wishing to flee for so long
The truth is, he loved her,
but she didn't love him as much,
and it showed. So rather than
fight a losing battle...
he blew out the candle
that lit his once fairytale romance
and saw his ideal world gaze
into an abyss.
He had no choice.
