I get up early each day to sit by my windowsill. And enjoy a glimpse of life before taking my first pill. Only half awake, my dreams drift as I try to recall. For, although sleep postpones pain, it quickly resumes its crawl. My room's as small as my needs, an efficient little box. And watching time slip away, I hate calendars and clocks. As dusk darkens the night sky, I bid farewell to the sun. And when sleep slowly arrives, I dream my life here is done. But though I'm ready to leave, it's not up to me to say. Only God can decide: if I should leave this Earth or stay. (Quatrain) 10/27/2015

Emile, this deeply profound meaningful pen moved me with a tone voice of angriness yet certainty...jil

aww God bless you, this is a wonderful poem and can i just say this does not just affect the elderly, my son is only 19 and has anxiety and a panic disorder and now has agoraphobia which means he never leaves the house unless with some one and gets panic attacks in almost every situation out doors and in new and strange places meeting new people ect... , he is not on meds but counseling is coming soon, and God will heal i believe Amen

Thanks Diane, I see now how this poem could relate to someone like your son, unable to participate in a world just outside his window...may God bless and help him overcome. Emile.

Sad and heartfelt Emile. Im sure there are our elderly citizens that feel what you have so well described here. Life for some is difficult not having anything to look forward too, and being in a state of mind that may be deceased. You cleverly reflect this Emile. Thank you for sharing my friend.

Emile, your photo is great foreshadowing of what your poem will convey. This is wonderfully expressed through the eyes of an older one. "sleep can postpone pain, it quickly resumes its crawl," those words open the window to what this man is feeling. I'm clicking a 7 for you.
