Bruises, Not Scars

Gone are my childish beliefs in love That foolish faith in magic Dreams of devotion have faded And clarity seems to be all that's left You're image has shifted so violently in my eyes The man suddenly revealed in true form I know not that those lips hold the sharpest tongue Ready and waiting to mortally wound me with words Those eyes would kill me if they could Cut me down where I stand with only a glare And those arms that once held me close Extend to hands that forget I am soft and sweet Fists of rage leaving me black and blue on the floor But I'm the one to blame, not you I couldn't see that you have been you all along So now I have no more tears to shed You have stolen too many and left me nearly dry
