The Hunt
Lethal alertness -
Tigers, lions and leopards...
The top-cats stalk their prey with
shoulders hunched high up,
belly low, grazing the grass
Pure survival depends on
deadly awareness -
A stunning sight to behold
A blinding speed rush
A bite to the throat
Yet I put them all to shame
Just me, your housecat…
Footnote: It is generally accepted that today’s ordinary housecats were first domesticated by the ancient Egyptians to control rats, mice and dangerous, venomous snakes in their grain houses, built with woven reed and easily gnawed through
The housecat is by far the most efficient hunter in the cat family…Ever seen one scale a tree when they mean business? I once watched ours and the cat next door chasing each other up and down a tree. It was literally a matter of seconds each way…A squirrel wouldn't have stood a chance
