An Angel Named Rawan

AN ANGEL NAMED RAWAN (In memory of Rawan*) Your excruciating suffering, my little angel, has ripped my heart Thus apathetic before the robbing of your life can I remain no more As the ashes of your dreams and aspirations have blackened my path So unable my way to find I am for faith in humanity is fainting away! © Demetrios Trifiatis 15 SEPTEMBER 2013 *A few days ago, Rawan, an eight-year-old Yemeni girl was forced by her parents to marry a man five times her age. On her “wedding night (mare)”, her fragile tender body could not withstand the beastly consummation of her marriage so she died because of that. Thousands of little girls every year go through the same nightmarish experience some survive and some do not.

Thank you Lucy for caring! This has happened in Yemen and it seems it happens to many countries! Your story also is a tragic one and many more stories unfortunately take place every day all over the world. Beasts are everywhere! Thank you for visiting. Take good care!

I read this earlier, my dear poet, and I shared the story with my family who was over for breakfast. A busy day...Do not be disappointed in us, my dear. I am horrified by this...Horrified. How could he be such a brute? It was so difficult to read for my beautiful neice is only seven, and as I looked at her yesterday...I could not even begin to imagine...Poor Rawan....One day mercy WILL be meted out! We hold on till then. Great writing on such an important topic. Your heart of love moves me...

Unfortunately there are so many BRUTES around the world and my heart is bleeding for the women and little girls that suffer because of these BEASTS! Being born in a family with six sisters I am extreeeemely sensitive when it comes to the abuse of women! Thank you for your comment and your interest, although I expected more from the woman population! God bless you!

God bless you and the rest of ladies and may God keep you safe! Thank you for your kind comment!

The name Rawan is a character in Hindu scriptures. But when I read the poem, it's a girl's name. Anyway, you have penned it well with emotions and feelings, Demetrios
