A Too Soon Good-Bye

A Too Soon Good-bye We watch him leaving a little each day fading Dark shadows dull his fading memory hide his thoughts His eyes see the present yet cannot connect times canyons cannot rebuild bridges between lovers eroded by time He waits as snippets of a life flash before him reaching to touch the shimmering shadows of loss He moves from youth to age – and sits alone - among them Perhaps his need to cry – wanders - weeping for him He will leave us before he leaves us as we watch John G. A fine poetic examination of Alzheimer's disease, dementia and memory loss.

That's beautiful - very sad indeed but beautifully penned. Such a heartbreaking circumstance

Terrific write John. I could feel the sense of loss in each stanza

My emotion was touched stanza by stanza, then totally punched by the last one. My Mother just turned 80 and I watch her, the other residents in the senior living and feel all the things your poem covers. And you're right, the woman who raised me has already mostly gone. So bittersweet, so emotionally hard and, also, frightening in many ways. A perfect write, John ... CayCay

CayCay, I spent the Labor Day weekend with my oldest brother who is in his 80's and slowly slipping away into Alzheimers.
